tome and gear grind, vertical progression.
The class system. Just chuck it already. No one in their right mind uses a class past 30, so whats the point. Lose it, and add a few jobs that use the same weapon, like Scholar and Summunor do.... like maybe add Ranger alongside Bard.
One thing. Only one thing.
Trolls!
Honorable mentions.
Heavy
One hit kill
Remove one thing? Hair clipping with armor
Yes I hate that attack too sometimes I am just trying to travel the map to get elsewhere and those toads are like nope -.-
The one thing I would remove is the RMT spammers constantly getting a /tell as I am looking at the marketboard or other random things around the cities
The Duty Finder.
It has completely ruined the community in the game by allowing people to be asshats without any accountability. It has also turned the game into a menu driven system. I don't even know where half the dungeons are in relation to the world.
Shards. Just shards; then every crafter will be happy.
Exclusivity of cash shop items. You want to pay money to save time on farming a mount/minion? Go ahead. But those of us who collect them for fun and don't want to pay real money should have the option of obtaining them in-game.
Not sure if this was already mentioned but I would remove Global CDs when switching from DoL/DoH to DoW/DoM.
I actually like FATE's. :(
Here's two things:
Gil Sellers and Lockouts
Eternal Bonding
Totally pointless
God awful RNG permeating everything.
I'd remove the pointless auto closing.
I hate going to a NPC vendor, only to have it close my crafting menu!
Or finding an item in the MB, buying it, and then having it auto close that item's window to go back to search. If I want to go back to it, I'll close it myself, tyvm.
I'd remove Minfilia....
(There are other things, but Minfilia is the most important to remove)
Not being able to Teleport/Return when a dungeon pops and you have aggro so you can quickly change classes and commence. This restriction was added via an update but with questionable value as I don't see how it could be otherwise exploited to any significant benefit- someone dying in an open world battle gets a free Return (ie Revive at Home point) anyway- so it's almost never better to try and port yourself out of a losing situation and this restriction does more harm than good. Also being able to port to a main city when DF pops when there was no aggro so you can change classes with no in-instance cooldown was nice while that lasted too. People would know not to attempt this 5 secs before the commence timer runs out and besides whether someone ports or not, if they don't change classes they don't commence so why not make it easier?
Elphenaud's pointing emote.
Every nPC who does it deserves a punch to the face. >_>
HEAVY Man I hate it.
DF Lockout penalty. Annoys the hell out of me during weekends.
Sylph dailies x.x
Pure Vertical Progression
1) Cash Shop. It doesn't belong in a game I already bought and pay a sub for.
2) Retainers. They are a poor excuse for a bank. Just the simple act of accessing your items is buried under multiple layers of dialogue choices, and they aren't even shared between characters. It's pathetic.
3) All the nonsensical restrictions surrounding Chocobo Companion.
armory system. or cross class skill/trait restrictions
one or the other SE, one or the other.
materia to level crafting
I would like to remove the tombstone bank limit. Only being able to have 2k at anytime kinda stinks.
Extremes, Hardcore Content and PVP.
Dragoons
/10char
Would definitively remove class-restriction for gear.
Come on, a warrior can tank in a loose, hindering cowl but my white mage can't wear a shirt? Let's be serious...
And if I may add another: neighborhoods. The fact that a minority of people actually hangs out in them is not an excuse to justify the fact that non-instanced housing greatly limits availability to only 2% of the playerbase.

OT, the noct lorica, and that wierd tail sleeve on the evenstar coat.
at least when they show up.
if they give drk a high risk-high reward skillset there will be a lot of greatsword bearing corpses.
at least they will look cool (objectively)
I'd like the ability to teleport while in combat back.

Too late! This is a White Mage in FFXI in level 40~ish gear. The chest piece was called the Holy Breastplate, and it's a fairly cool-lookin' heavy armor piece with crap stats but a LOT of defense.
I still don't know why WHM's don't use Hammers... Such an iconic weapon. o_O
I also feel that MOST of the glamor restrictions should go. Or PvP. Let's get rid of that. :P
ATMA farm.
If one thing needed to be removed from this game, it would have to be the reliance on materia (which should be an optional and encouraged feature, not a required feature) to reach the minimum crafting/gathering levels needed to achieve the next stage of crafting/gathering (be it gear, master recipe books, whatever).
Materia should be supplemental, not a requirement. If you have the highest-quality gear you can possibly get at your current level, then you shouldn't have to rely on such an annoying-to-grind resource like materia to reach the bare bones "You have to be this skilled to even attempt this craft/gather" level. I can't stress enough that materia should not be required.
Nutmuncher Marmots.
Glamour Restrictions/Unable to do Sets for different Glamours.
The inexplicable slow crafting when using quick synthesis. Make one item, stop for 3 seconds, start making second item...
