I too grew up in 2D, and agree with you about there being way to much sex in games, It is why I look at games like Blade&Soul or Terra, and just sigh and walk off. But since these bathing suits are pretty much the only fully reveling cloths in the game, it does not really bother me.
Adventure of course, but you should know that this game isnt limited to only those options. Like Aion said, "Both!"
It doesnt always have to be about killing monsters, but acquiring armor and mixing and matching fashion is what people like to do as well. Some people care about what their character looks like rather than the stats they have, and those people usually are the ones that end up having the most fun, because more than likely they are doing this with friends.
The Summer Event is just content that is considered to fall under the "Acquiring Armor" category, with a little bit of adventure and killing monsters.
I don't think it's too much. Was just a silly/fun event. I do see some cleavage on the bottom halfs of some suits though, including mine, and I'd rather not really. Note that there's a difference between preferring a regular bikini and demanding a return to full bodied dresses as swim-wear though (which some of you, hopefully not seriously, seem to have suggested is what the default opinion of complainers is). You should also probably note that lots of girls, even in 2011, still do prefer to wear one-piece suits.
Anyways. I'm not too bothered by this. I had lots of fun doing the event, and the suit isn't quite past the point of being scandalous to me. It's quite wearable on my character really, even if I wouldn't wear it myself. I don't see why anyone would feel compelled to ask for SE to take it further though, and I'd personally not want them to. To answer the original question about whether SE would take it further, I can't imagine they would. You can't get people too naked in a game that's meant to be sold to all ages in all countries.
Lastly, to the people who "don't understand why anyone could be upset" (although I think annoyed is probably a better word than seriously upset). It's fine if you don't understand it, there's no reason at all you have to or should feel the same way. But just remember that they're/we're entitled to our own opinions as well.
