While I totally support the opportunity to play a child character, I think it should be gimped down in terms of access to classes and such. At most, I'd allow child characters to play as Disciples of the Land (and even then, only with smaller tools). We already have a small-but-physically-stronger race (Lalafell), so I think having other races' children being able to do the same things adults do in terms of combat and physical skills would destroy the whole point of that part of the lore.
Definitely want to RP as a child. But combat skills? No, no no.
I want to have elf character the size of Alphinaud... It's not fair that if we pick Elf we have to be 3 meters tall D: While the twins get away with it just like that D:
I usually play elfs in all games, only picked cat cause it was so tall
Why not give kids combat skills? There's been tons of young characters in FF games where they've held their own with adults or even better.
Also in 1.0 we had that Uldah story npc elf who's name started with a D... he was like in his early teens? Give us that option XD
No Padjal was born as a Padjal. And if Padjals are allowed to have babies, the babies would be normal Hyurs (mostly Midlanders, because there are not many Highlanders in Gridania). Only the Elementals decide who is worth to be a Padjal. Padjal is more a status than a race.
I think Sylphie in the Conjurer quest has the potential to become a Padjal, because she is very talented and can hear the voices of the Elementals.
I don't have any investment in playing as a child character - but I'd like to see more child NPCs around. Children were all over the place in the towns in FFXI, but you can count the total number of children shown in this game in one hand, most of them featured only in cutscenes. It makes the so-called city-states of Gridania, Ul'dah, and Limsa seem a bit unnatural - if these are really cities, where are the kids?
On the topic of Padjal, though, SE has plenty of lore-safe reasons they could choose to add them as a race if they wanted to, based largely on the fact that no one really knows for sure WHAT the elementals are thinking or their motivations are. The elementals could one day decide, for whatever hidden reasons (or even unhidden: it could be done as a reaction to the Calamaty, for example, or to prepare for an upcoming disaster that the elementals sense coming before anyone else), that they need to pop a crapton of Padjals and send them adventurin'. Boom! Playable.
The elementals could even choose to make people of races other than Hyur into Padjal; just because Hyur are the only ones so far chosen doesn't mean that they're the only race that CAN be chosen.
