My first retainer on my main uses both the name and the character model of one of my alts.
Subsequently, I've been using the names of the Ivalice espers/Lucavi as a naming theme (and am surprised at how many of them were open on Balmung, of all places.) I currently employ Hashmal, Adrammelech, Cuchulainn, and Ultima as retainers.

Penny (myself), Adara(old friend), Gwen(my kitty), Akane(Ranma 1/2), Clive(IDK), and the last shall be kept secret.

with this format:
Name'discipleofthehandabbreviation1'discipleofthehandabbreviation2'discipleofthehandabbreviation3'

this way the names are horrible to see but at least I have things in order <3

Well, since A this was Necro Bumped, and I had to change their names in order to move back to balmung some months ago (Actually pushing a year now come to think) I'll repost mine.

Skatha: Midlander Female, Alternate Spelling of Schathac from Celtic Mythology. Class Lancer, Weapon and Armor specifically the Upgraded Law Gear.

Njord: Wildwood Male, Vanair God of The Sea in Norse Mythology and father of the Aesir Freya. Class Gladiator (though will change to Dark Knight as soon as able), gear..... Still working on that since I'm still gearing my PLD at the moment too. Planing to equip with Proto-Gordian Set after I'm done with it.

I have a thing for norse and celtic mythology. >_>

Have 7 of them little lala's on an alt character called Dopy, Doc, Grumpy.... I think you can guess the other names. Still have to rename one to Bashfull though.

Since I design all of my characters with a story, those that have a relation to my friend's characters user her characters as retainers. Then there are a few randoms thrown in while my recent Auri girl uses my male Au Ra as hers. I should change one of the random retainers he has into her too come to think of it!

All of my retainers are named and modeled after characters from K Project, except for one who used to be named Thancred until I changed servers and had to rename him.

I also have an alt whom I use mostly for hording lesser-used crafting mats and tradable event items for later sale whose retainers are named after characters from the Black Sun trilogy. I like themes XD

named my 1st 1 Yulie (did my best to make her look like the avi I named her after from White Knight Chronicles, had to go Miqo'te for hair style & lol's) aslo by my headcannon she's the actual avi that came with me to Eorzea threw the void from WKC's world

2nd name was harder used some random filler name for awhile till 1 came to me, Sudeki (Orange hair Elven to start but went Au'ra with same hair color... & just made her red skined raen, 1 with blueish scales, with blue/pink hair outa the desire to have a "hell" themed succubi yah I have issues but my avi has way more than me...)

Alfed... Was going for alfred but mistyped and alfred was taken so it stuck.

And I made a dark male Au'ra named Rhonso. I was playing a lot of FFX when it got released on Steam so... Yeah. He actually sold an item once that I had on on sale on both retainers and his was more expensive too! :3

I don't know if anyone will get the references.. But I named mine Yoyoma and Janeway.

Most of my retainers' names are ordinary, but I rename them when they sass me. MrAngryWhiskers earned his name when he brought me olive seeds three times in a row (look at my character name). I also have a lalafell retainer I renamed Popotochips.

One's a little Aura that looks like me and the other is an even smaller Lalafell that looks like me. I favor the lalafell the most.

I named a Female Hyur after my THF from XI, and spent awhile trying to make her look like the standard female Hume you see in XI promotional art. I'd like to think she's retired from the whole adventuring business now, but picked up the duties of a retainer to stave the boredom. My second retainer is a Hellsguard Botanist named Deneb. Unfortunately, I found out retainer names can't include spaces, so I couldn't go with the usual Hellsguard naming scheme- it's supposed to be 'Dueling Deneb'. Yes, kinda like these things!

Akajiro, just the sexiest Auri male I could create. Raen and also a redhead, which is the reason for the "aka" in his name. Bad luck turned him into a BRD :cool:

One's Jackel and the other is Banzai. Jackel is the cynical one and Banzai is the one that really should've been punched a few times as a kid to make him a little less happy and annoying. I like to imagine both Jackel and Banzai while on the market not getting along but Banzai doesn't get the hint to leave Jackel alone. Eew, did just role play?

In early summer, a 4th retainer joined me - Birma, a soft little WHM Miqo'te that looks exactly like a Birman cat :)
She levels SO SLOW. It's been 5 months and she is still only lvl 38...

Last month, a 5th retainer stumbled in. Just a temporary necessity though, so neither has a class nor a real name. Creepy-looking pale Elezen.
Currently called "Spookylady" and wearing Halloween garb because I used her as spooky furniture in my garden during Halloween..xD

My first retainer, Hajna, was named after a Russian OC that I created when I first started writing. Every subsequent retainer after her (with one exception) was named using the appropriate naming scheme according to their race, which are as follows:

Hajna (female Miqo'te)
Maetihort (male Roegaydn)(According to the Roegadyn name scheme, it means "Mighty Treasure")
Hanono (female Au ra)
Trysten (male Miqo'te)(this is the exception to the naming rule, as I wanted one named "Tristian", but that variation of it was taken so I had to improvise xD)
Zetsunoma (male Au ra)
Zazoh'ra (male Miqo'te)(My latest one! Ran his name through the FFXIV name generator and it was the one that stuck out most to me xD)
