BRAVO!
This is the way search should be.
MAKE IT HAPPEN PLEASE!!!
Love this idea. I would also like to see a simple /sea all command added as well, not only /sea all, but /sea "player name here", also another command to search an entire zone, ect... similar to FFXI's system. That would be nice to have in-game, and in friends list, it would be great to see them add the Zone the players are currently in. These small things would add great immersion to the game.

i want. now.
Signed! Great post and hope SE take notice of it.
101 "likes" in just over 24 hours, and not even a "hot topic" yet.
With just one person who seemed to disagree (sarcasm I'm assuming) I think it's rather obvious that SE should really consider my proposal. I understand that SE might have a little too much pride to actually copy exactly what is proposed, which is fine and totally understandable, but this is one topic that would please nearly every player while angering only a few players if any at all.
Regardless what they choose to do exactly, I would like to emphasize two important things:
The ability to seek invites with multiple classes and multiple purposes for each class. We'd end up spending less time seeking and more time playing if this is how it's implemented, something I'm sure everyone would welcome.
And second, the more important thing, use the KISS principle. Keep It Simple Stupid. The easier it is to use, the more the players will use it. Our current system is evidence of how a poorly designed system can be completely dismissed as "broken" and end up not being used at all.
Thanks for all the comments everyone and keep them coming. I'd love to see a Rep chime in and see what they have to say.
I honestly think the reason this topic isn't more lively is because as you said, there has only been a single person in 50 posts that didn't like the idea. I mean, in what other topic on this forum do you see that happen? lol
Well it did take over 1k posts and like 120 pages (and like 600 likes?) + on multi laungues to get a response about the map re-design...seems like stuff everyone agrees on by a large sum takes them the longest to respond to XD
I'm for anything that gets rid of the current god awful system that prevent people from find parties.
Yea I would agree on 2 accounts.
It's much easier to keep a thread going through arguments, but when everyone agrees there really isn't much to say. Essentially, no news is good news.
The Eorzea redesign thread took forever to get a response, even after being translated into 3 other languages, 1k+ replies and 600+ likes. However, the scale of the work requested to the dev team was absolutely massive and I'm sure it wasn't a simple yes/no decision for SE. This is just one small, but very important aspect of the game.
I don't think they're ignoring this thread though. The OP is quite long, and I'm sure it would have to be translated and reviewed before a definitive response could be made. SE already stated that they are working on improving the system but I personally think it needs more than just improvement. Like the Eorzea redesign thread, the system has to be completely redesigned.
I'd be flattered if they actually copied my suggestion, though I don't really expect that to happen. But it's clear that something needs to be done. If anything, this proposal serves as a blueprint for them.
This is just perfect! Awesome job Meowy!
I hope we can get a dev response sometime soon.
Really like this, relatively simple way of seeking across classes is just what we need. The only issue I can see with that is when multiple jobs are introduced per class, would there be an option to seek on all of them? I guess it'd be necessary.
Pure Genius
I thought about this too.
Easily solved with scroll bars. For PS3 players it would be just as easy, hitting right/left continuously in the small window of boxes would scroll the window.
edit: I notice you said jobs and not classes. This is another thing I considered but was unable to find a solution for. The main reason is because no one knows exactly how jobs will work yet.
Once we get concrete info about the job system I'm sure there's ways to make it work.
I totally agree with that!
You did a very great job, I hope SE will used a similar system.
agreed 100%===> /singned

SE will never look at this topic because they have developers that have no clue how games should run

This is one of the best ideas ive seen in quite awhile, nice job.
Also i would sooner assume that SE isnt ignoring this topic, the feed back on it is pretty one sided. So my guess is, that they are checking into how possible it would be to do something of this nature before commenting on it. SE always has been very careful what they say and when they say it.
signed and thoroughly, thoroughly liked. (-1 post)
I signed up to the forums for the soul purpose of posting in this thread. I'm one of those new players (arrived after 1.18) and could not agree more on this here improvement to party seeking.
We play MMO's to interact with other players, and as it stands right now its really hard to find a party and i think its limiting new player experience.
If I didnt already have a linkshell lined up from friends I played FFXI with it'd be pretty lonely at times and a long fustrating solo grind.
This is amazing. Actually it's almost too good. That's the problem though. Although it's all stuff that's property of SE, it's your idea now. Law suit, damn it! If only SE could think of clever things like this on their own. Either way, it's amazing and I hope they manage to do something similar to this.

@ OP
THIS x 1billion!
Square Enix, PLEASE listen to this person and implement said feature precisely as they've designed it! Such a useful idea!
I haven't really thought of that. I wasn't even aware you could sue over an idea unless you had a patent on it, but apparently you can.
I'm not here to make money though, in fact quite the opposite. I would gladly pay SE a monthly fee once the game is fixed and worth paying for. Not to mention, I absolutely despise court rooms lol.
If required, I would gladly sign this idea over to SE if it meant they would use it. I don't care for taking credit for anything, I just want a working party system.
While I really like your idea OP, more features is never a bad thing, I would settle for an interface similar to what we have in XI. A button to press that will put your flag up along with a search comment and a /sea all command.
They had a /sea all command at the release and for whatever reason they went and removed it. As it stands right now the current search function only aims to prevent one from finding a party.
To me it's yet another example of having a working idea, from XI, but instead completely discarding it for something less effective.
You want people to join parties? Give us a useful and easy way of finding people because as it stands now soloing is horrid outside of leves and finding a party is a headache.
/sighned Make life so much better, please and thank you! :D

I like the seek invite party idea where you can mark which class you want available for which event.
i like it. signed.
Fantastic design to go with a fantastic idea. You've may very well have done this game a favor, I think.
Also, I posted this on my LS website's forums to get the word to them as well. I've asked them to come sign it and give their thoughts as well.
Definitely looks like a good idea. It's something I had always wanted in FFXI and now in FFXIV--a way to advertise your willingness to do a multitude of activities on multiple jobs (in a way that doesn't restrict what you're playing while being LFG).
Thanks for putting this together. I was thinking of doing the same, and you saved me the effort.
Great job MeowyWowie!!
Love the idea of being able to seek for multiple jobs, one of my frustrations from XI, also the visual party flag is spot on, love it!
I really hope Yoshi P and the team take this onboard esp with all the positive feed back this post has received!
Should be a widget button, On/Off, nothing more, nothing less.
As for the see whos recruiting, another button, these could be added to the 4 for P/A, emotes, Menu etc, add 1 button to toggle Seeking and another that pulls up a window with all those seeking with a side menu for filters.
Oh much like XI's!
What the Op suggested is pretty much ingame already and no one uses it, to many menus and to many options to think about, to many buttons and sttings, thus its stupid.
You can then have commands, /seek, /search :O even maybe /sea.
