id pay, because i'm not a picky brat about stuff. If a game needs something I'll offer a detailed suggestion. I look at my ffxiv game case and pout because I can't make my fire theme lil kitty girl fisherman and walk around gridania. :(
og btw the only reason riftis so "polished" was it stole 90% of the stuff from Several Iron realms mud. Like the concept of rofts and such. Plus the basic storyline. Also Tera is huge as ffxiv if not bigger and just as empty. I saw a thing on youtube about it the guy at the booth was a rude eurpean. He kept insulting the kid who was trying to play the game.
I would because I have paid with crysta for the next 3 months already. I like the people I play with and NM runs, even though I been doing them for months, are still fun. Having fun ranking new classes with LS mates. So overall I would, not sure of the exact direction the game is taking, but so far I have like what Yoshi P and crew have done, so I'd stick with it till it totally sucks or I run out of crysta. Personally I have played WoW and PvE wise it can not get much worse then that(Though the PvP system was solid in it). Raid, raid, raid, oh sweeet finally another raid! Boring =.= So I can stick this game out for awhile even if it hits some holes.
At the current moment, ONLY because of Yoshi-p would I agree to pay. I left the game after the first month because of how broken it was. I only returned and am still interested 'because' of the directions, feedback, and works in progress that Yoshi has given us.
The sad truth of this subject is that This game does not have the room to fail. If XIV fails, or bombs, then SE will lose all credibility in the MMO-verse/genre. Yoshi-p is under a lot of pressure to make sure that this game can succeed. So if it meant paying for the game right now, I would consider it a solid investment as a fan of the franchise.
Yoshi-P, lead us to greatness!
Considering I can only do something productive in this game for about an hour every 36 hours I would never pay for this game. I'd be stupid if I did.
Game broken :*( would I pay for it as it stands, for me its a flip of a coin. I think they are trying their collective butts off with everything they are doing for us the player, the fact that its free and promises so much is the only thing keeping me here, that and LS mates.
So you only do leves, and you're done? If you didn't notice xiv has the most intricate gathering/crafting system of any 'next-gen' mmo, and added sidequests are incoming as well. Party xp, grouping with ls or friends to fight NM's are also viable options. For a baby mmo, it has a decent amount of material.
Since the game is to change a lot (i think and i do hope) its hard to say if one woudl pay for it or not, since nobody really knows what the upcoming changes will be like, and how they will change the gameplay, fun, experience.
So far i wouldnt pay for it ... yet. There's still too much that can happen to the better or worse. I hope for the better.
But the last update wasnt very convincing at all (quests i did were all so similar, even the number of mobs or ingredients to be killed/gathered by killing had the same numbers... i rather wait then this- bad direction) so ill keep waiting and see if they fix /change
- the battle system and how (and how)
- the armory system/class system (and how)
- Missions, bossfights, greater instances for smaller and bigger groups - please no "Dodo in wonderland" with marmot friends.
- the quests gonna be like (kill 8 mob quests- no thanks), i rather have no reward for some quests if they all together lead me to something higher, to unlock something. Another job, an area, or for crafters, special recipes, or ingredients, or perhaps another way of making guild marks. a mix of finding things, gathering ingrediences (or buying for those who dont wanna), fighting mobs - with smaller parties since they plz be harder, and so on...
- The engine - memory usage, less lag, ... a game like this shouldnt be even close to be needing an SSD drive and all the hardware it needs atm. (SE doesnt seem to take this important but i think its a major issue- what good is a game if too many ppl cant play it even if they want)
- The environment - making things more appealing when traveling is more rewarding then some ppl might think. Nice details you can look at, random things to happen on the travels... caravans, merchants, ... (I might not have seen it but here as well SE seems not to see how important the world design is. The world just doesnt fit to the awesome animated, detailed characters)
- The Party play/difficulty- importance of different characters and importance of abilites and spells
(its being adressed, lets see what they gonna do, im confident they get it done pretty well)
No I would not, probably.
As it is now, i wouldn't even consider playing for free. At least while it's free i can login every few weeks and check the direction it's going in. As silly as it sounds i will consider playing if they add chocobos. Not paying yet, though.
At the rate things are going I think it would take another year of development before I felt like paying for FFXIV.
I think a lot of people are in the same boat.. so my advice to SE would be to keep it free to play for a long, long time. Otherwise the PS3 release will be more of a death than a revival.
(Most people assume that the PS3 release will coincide with the switch to Pay-to-Play)
It might be the most intricate... but I say its too complex. The game of hot and cold got boring really fast for me. The sidequests don't offer me and reward other than getting to read some text. If I wanted that, I would read a fantasy book. Party exping would be fun but I just don't find the game interesting enough to sit in a group and grind monsters. Same could be said for NMs, I guess. And for what it is, it really doesn't have much. Leves, Sidequests, Grind.
I would of course, and hopefully when they add the monthly charge it will weed out all the people who only play games where everything is handed to them on a silver platter.
I am playing now because its free and i am boored, I would not pay for the garbage that we have now.
It needs BCNM leve cap raised and job/level restricted gear not free for all paper doll dress up. also the stat system is a joke and needs s serious overhaul.
I would not pay. We need more content, more freedom of movement (chocobos, airship etc.), more quests and more avenues to earn exp.
This is going to be my last mmo (genre is getting stale), so I'm just riding the wave of free until they either add more meaningful content that is worth paying for, or start charging regardless and I just quit.
It is important to me however, that they do not fundamentally change the system, but only add do it. If classes are completely changed and how we earn skills/points are totally different than now, well I'm not willing to put up with the transition and leave.
I would if the fatigue system was gone
I would play. Been playing since Open Beta -- Collectors Addition. I knew this game would need a lot of work and I am happy where it is heading. Its the most fun in a mmorpg I've found in a while.
Greetings!

I have also already added Crysta. so I am just making the best of it.
I would not pay for many of the same reasons mentioned, the game is changing too much, i have agreed with and supported many of the changes and i am all for it.
but this last poll brought 2 questions i did not like and they worry me alot.
If they change the game to make it so my XP and/or Loot is shared with other players because they decided to hit the same mob i am attacking then i will never play this game again.
I have also been playing since Phase 3 of Beta and i love the changes being made, i think the game has a long way to go before we should pay for it, such as new content/areas but the Mob combat should stay the way it was in FFXI, whoever tags the mob first gets all the XP and loot.
Yup, I'd pay to play now.
Heck I was willing to pay at the original start date; my priorities are generally thematic, quality of character generation system, and health of roleplay community .. and Final Fantasy XIV wins out on all those counts.
... Actually to be perfectly honest some of the changes being raised concern me somewhat and all, some of them have already decreased my enjoyment of the game, albeit only fractionally. If I ever felt unwilling to pay, it'll be because of a change I feel degraded things too far, rather than any existing issue.
If you had asked me this back in November, I would of said hell no. But now with the new changes coming, Yoshi P, and such a great community in Lindblum and awesome new friends, I will pay!! lol
Of coure!
I'd gladly pay monthly for this game.
Hell, I would have gladly played monthly months ago when this game was first released.
I have been loving this game from the start, and have been loving every minute of playing.
All you sad people beat up this game, because it doesn't cater to your standards of what an MMO should be.
Don't like the fatigue system?
Switch to another class. That's why that system is there, to promote switching and exploring all options.
This is also why you people complain about grinding.
For god's sake, get out there and try new things.
I do something new every time I play, I've never even experienced the fatigue system yet, and I play all the time.
Honestly I would pay but the fee should be half of what they would normally charge. Still we won't see p2p for a couple of months yet so enjoy the continued free time! :p
Ive been here for 12 Months since the very first Alpha and it has changed a whole lot. It does have its flaws, and yes i would pay for it, i fell in love with the world and everything about it, i feel the game given a chance will become great.
We already know we won't be paying for FFXIV until SE feels it is satisfactory (and we all know it's not at this point in time). There's no point even bringing this up for discussion.
imo... the OP doesnt make any sense.... asking if ppl would pay for the current state of the game if we are asked to pay.... when it was announced that the game would be free till it is basically worth playing, that means the dev team themselves dont believe its playable yet, hell they just finished the second poll to figure out how they should change the game to suit the playerbase, i believe it would take 6 months to fix the disaster of few years of development. so the whole poll idea of this post is basically.... dumb!!
I bought this mostly because of the current unlimited free play, so no I wouldn't pay right now. lets see how things are going in 3-4 months (and providing the games doesn't get worse ...), even in it's current state I think I would sub up for a few months.
(but thats only after 2-3 months of free time, $50.00 is too much for this game so I'm counting that money I spent as being more like paying a fair price for something that is worth $25 to $30-ish and included a few months free as a bundle deal)
Does anyone remember the state of XI when it first launched in Japan? Or are they basing their opinions solely on a US launch(RoTZ), and a game that is now nearing a decade of development and content?
Personally Id pay for any MMO till I run out of stuff I want to do. Most likely Ill be leaving XIV in about 2-3 months. Once I cap my LW/Thaum/Conj/Fishing/Weaving/Alchemy Ill consider myself having a solid foundation built for this MMO. But will have little motivation to play due to lack of endgame content, I don't see myself investing time grinding out yet another class.
Ill come back when they launch PS3 and have their first expansion. Zilart was arguably the best Expansion pack of ANY MMO Ive ever played. So with that memory, I am eagerly awaiting for them to unlock Ishgard. They know they have to nail the PS3 launch or this game will be doomed to a slow downward spiral of population loss, server merges, and eventual extinction. Its not going to happen, they know this, and thats a major reason why we are seeing this pushed back.
