Not liking something is one thing, calling it garbage or trash is another. And if you took your own advice and read more closely, you'd see there's quite a bit or negativity towards the song other than "it doesn't quite fit". Especially for a thread called "Shiva Primal theme is amazing".
Anime dad approves of the anime song
What we should really be pushing for is removal of all lightning hair cat girls.
I dislike the second part coming after the first. Alone it's alright but it would seem like if the first flowed even to a rock opera style it would have fit better with the first half of the theme. That's just my two gil.
I really don't like the singing part of the song, but I would be lying if I said it hasn't been stuck in my head all day.
I like the first theme for sure, but I also like how it "breaks" (snaps?) into a rock song with vocals. In the context of following the story and playing the battle the first time, to me going into a vocal track like that makes it feel like this is a true "main event" -- something special and unusual in the context of the game on the whole. Of course, now we've had a lot of Primal fights and the trend is becoming familiar, and it's probably less impactful after the nth time, but I still like the effect overall.
And that aside, it probably makes sense that they won't knock every one out of the park for every single player's tastes. But so far, for me, this is up there in the list.
I can agree that it doesn't so much "fit", but I wouldn't change it for anything. Everything just amps up after that part. The beginning is fantastic, but I look forward to the song part more.
Besides, this Shiva is a rebel. (IE story events about her crime according to ishgard)
i love the last part not sure why so much hate.
I love both, the transition is indeed odd, but then again so is Leviathan and I see little criticism on that one :P
That's because they are too busy bashing the lyrics (despite said lyrics being sung from the perspective of zealots, much like the titan theme).
I have no problem with the second half. Hearing the lyrics, seeing the context and exactly how and why they summoned Shiva to begin with, the song fits incredibly well.
The theme is great as a whole, loved every part of it. I was more worried about Shiva herself not living up to my expectation, but I must say the devs did a good job. I'm too used to "good Shiva", it's refreshing to see her in a different light.
Welp, now the second part is stuck in my head.
Honestly loved the second half, first half is pretty good too. That transition utterly blew me away the first few times.
The transition is a bit off, however, both tracks have similar motifs if you listen enough times. When I found that out, linking the two together became a much more enjoyable experience.
I absolutely love the first part, but the second doesn't befit Shiva at all, and just doesn't hold a candle compared to the former. ;-;
I loved the first part.
The transition is way too off to my taste. On its own, I'd say it's okay, but being a transition from the first part just doesn't work for me.
If I'd have to rank them up... (Just my opinion, mind you.)
1-Ramuh
2-Titan
3-Leviathan
4-Garuda
5-Good King Moggle Mog XII
6-Ifrit
7-Shiva
Mind you, just because it's no.7 doesn't mean I "hate" it. I like it less than the others is all.
I don't think that's what the story told us at all. Shiva wasn't even a primal until her summoning in the storyline. She was a human being that was a part of Ishgardian history, and like Moogle Mog it was shown all that was needed to create a summon was crystals and enough will power. She was technically brand new to the world if I understand the story properly. Making her the youngest primal after Good King Moogle Mog.
Best one so far. Even better than the Levi theme and Titan imo.
I really love both parts of the theme. The second one part has a lot of energy, gives the fight a very neat feel.
I don't like J-Rock/J-Pop but I did like both parts of the Shiva's song.
"Let it go." I think the Frozen references are getting overdone :P
I loved both parts. Especially the 2nd part. It made me wanna do it again!
Looks like I'm an oddity. I liked everything about the song; both halves and the transition were excellent. The diversity I think is what makes it great, even the silence when Shiva snaps her finger adds to it.
I agree with most people:
* Shiva's FIRST HALF of the Theme is awesome! The 2nd Half with J-Rock is AWFUL. :(
Soken, I really enjoy a lot of your compositions, and I know you have a Rock Band you play in, but seriously, don't let that creep into every single area you think you can cram it into! The J-Rock is so out-of-place / badly transitioned, it feels tacked on.
I thought Ramuh's Theme was gorgeous and a step in the right direction, but then we get this. Sigh.
Can we get Nobuo Uematsu back to do some music for Final Fantasy? :)
So it's not as if I really need to add this onto piles of the exact same opinion, but might as well. First part is thoroughly gorgeous and got me really excited for what was a very well set-up and cool fight. The second half is uh....a thing. It felt like the game music was muted and my roommate was blasting some random album; that sound was so ludicrously unfitting for what it accompanies that it took me a second to process it was actually the game.
I love the FFXIV ARR soundtrack for the most part, and in general I think having phases to a boss theme to go in synch with the fight is a cool idea. Titan did it first (and best), but Ramuh and Leviathan were neat too. This, though....I don't have a problem with phases or necessarily the j-rock being around for a primal but....NOT this one, and not following that beautiful music which was so perfectly suited for a Shiva battle.
The first part is good, the second part is perfect.
I love the two part toghether.
First part felt like a major boss, 2nd part felt like I was watching a fight in an anime. This song sadly lists as on the lowest tier of music for Primals for me (Garuda is top, followed by Ramuh, Leviathan, Titan, and Ifrit) due to the 2nd half simply because it doesn't feel like it fits being here at all.
I like both parts.
I'll be honest, I didn't even notice the music in the first half beyond "Generic fantasy epic orchestrated music" buzzing around in the back of my mind. But when Shiva slipped away from my grasp and started circling us like some sort of predatory bird, and hit us with diamond dust (so awesome), this change of music hit me hard. It was the first time in a primal fight when I actually said "F--- yeah!" and could almost feel my axe slam into an enemy.
Second part was terrible and in a way ruined the mood & feel of the battle. Its worse than leviathan theme to me.
For me she is the best boss since the first 3 she moves she makes you think and the music is very very good
I like them both alot! XD...SO...let it go!!. all you haters =P
Can't win em all. I for one love the theme, but I can understand some people not liking. Everyone has their own tastes for music after all.
Maybe if they switched the 2nd part to be 1st then maybe the fight would've felt more....climatic?
Don't give a crap about "genres". Is it jpop? is it jrock? who cares, does it sound good? that's what's important.
First phase music is great. The snap-click transition is amazing. Wasn't sold on the second phase music by itself but after hearing it over and over to clear Ex mode, I have to say it meshes amazingly well with the battle sounds and gives the fight a lot of frantic tension kind of like Titan music. Lyrics being audible for once is a bit distracting, slid into the wall a few times trying to make out words xD and I do wish the main guitar sound was more prominent.
Needs more breakdowns.
I don't really get how it doesn't fit. Both music and fight start out calm. Then after Diamond Dust the fight gets more mechanics and the music picks up too. Yeah, I guess they could have just made the second half of the music louder with more instruments and louder opera.
But still, I like this spin.
