No saltiness here. I expected a DPS DRK, Got a tank. Maybe our Tank will find a new class they enjoy in DRK. I'm going to level it all the same. I don't really know how it's going to work but I can take a guess that it'll be another shot at a life drain tank.

Not gonna complain. I've always been a fan of the DRK, so I'm just happy to have it in the game. Sure it's not a DPS job, but at least its in the game. Good enough for me.
I'm extremely disappointed in it being a tank, I was picturing eating away my own hp to deal out heavy damage, but seems that's pretty well out the window now. But what can you do? Their vision and mine were vastly different. Dunno if I'll pick it up now, which saddens me cuz I've always loved Dark Knight in my classic FF's (Never played XI, can't say how they played out there.) Oh well, though such is life.
I have no problems with Dark Knight being tank, I'm actually very interested in how it will be mechanically and what their story is. I'm half expecting Samurai (if it gets announced) to be the new DPS job.
I'm honestly a little surprised but hey you win some you lose some. I just hope they balance it properly and i'll be happy. More slashing damage tank though... I don't really know how I feel about that. Guess it doesn't really matter. But I'd like to see a tank that benefits from Blunt or piercing.
Blunt - MNK
Piercing - DRG/BRD
Slashing - PLD/WAR/DRK/NIN
i think thats kinda not even worth saying the only way a samurai can heal is with potions never ever gets a healing trait i can pretty much bet it will be another tank ~_~ idk why ppl jumping to that sure drk was a dps normally but lets face it it wears heavy armor check it can get people to hate it(monsters in this case) that pretty much makes it a tank tbh dragoon rlly should be a tank 2 wears plate armor and all the only thing making it not a tank is it cant gather groups and keep em on it
It should also be noted, if you're a DPS, and you're pushing out HP just to deal damage, won't that just make it more work on the healer to heal you? What if the healer had to choose between you and the tank who's almost dead? Of course they're gonna choose the tank first. Also, it should be put in the open world perspective as well. Obviously as a DPS class, your defense is nowhere near that of a tank's and if you can't take hits that well, and are trying to deal out damage at the cost of HP, you're gonna drop dead PREEEETTy fast to random mobs. *looks at chinchillas*
Samurai is DPS otherwise the JP fan base would have a fit. Again though there's been NOTHING to say SAM is coming other than that folder on Soken's desktop that could be nothing.
I thought DRK would be tank, cause of odin set :p would fit it quite well....SAM maybe not so much.
to bad we cant glamor Odin armor, though...hope that we can upgeade it, like we can with the primal weps...so we can have ilv 150+ Odin set, for expansion. They did say that Odin would get harder to beat, over time, and drop better stuff....
I have some tank friends who were discussing the other day about how happy they'd be if Dark Knight turned out to be a tank. I suspect I'll get some very excited messages in a few hours.

Pfft, samurai can heal. They'll be a bow using class and use "battle commander" 'tactics' and shout commands to boost morale (HP) and have war banner on their back for effects and stuff.
Now I also want that too, just because it'd be hilarious.
Yah sacrificing your HP to deal damage in XIV is akin to suicide in a lot of fights. DRKs gave healers conniptions in XI when they would pop ALL their cooldowns inc. Blood Weapon. Usually ended with the DRK taking hate off the tank and getting one-shot. They'd have to get more HP than even WAR to be a viable HP-->Damage DPS and at that point you may as well make them a tank.
Samurai would have suited being a Tank so much more than DRK. DRK should have remained a DPS class and used a Scythe.

To be fair, you can make anything work as a DPS if you want to. Don't get hit by an AoE, spend health on Attacks, gain it back with others, with the proper cooldowns , Traits, any job can work with any role if it's designed to fit that role. If you're gaining back health you spend anyway, no one has to heal you there. Designing jobs takes time, and can be hard to balance properly right away. But it just requires an idea of the role you want it to play and a base idea of how you want it to be played in that role.

People get upset when MNK and DRG use Blood for Blood.... Now we're all crying that we don't have an entire DPS class based around that idea?

On a serious note, there's a lot of battles in endgame content that involve fights that have wide damage AOEs that can't be dodged. And those take out well over half (defensive manuevers, primal enrages) of your HP just from one BOOM. Some even well over 2/3 of your HP (Megaflare). You would have to be very timely on your rotation, just to get health back, just in time to avoid getting One shotted by a single unavoidable mechanic.
Just got up. Where are the other jobssssssss they said they'd be announcing? At the NA fan fest they emphasized jobssssssss.
Yoshi-P too off his Batman shirt and underneath it had a James Bond 007 shirt underneath. Made some gun motions, and said he liked Roger Moore and "Man with the Golden Gun" a lot. We'll have to wait until the Fanfest in Tokyo in December to actually find out officially what that means however.
Edit: They emphasized jobssssssss here as well. I imagine they'll give us another hint at the next Fanfest so they have a bit more information to fill out the months after and leading up to the expansion.
Eh, it depends on what tools the devs would be willing to give them. I mean, there's nothing saying they can't have a traditional mitigation ability or two, as long as it isn't enough to let them tank. Of course, it's a moot point now, but it's fun to discuss anyway. :p
Did they even mention it being a blood tank? I only heard evasion and magic. It's dark knight dealing with dark magic but it might not have abilities dealing with hp absorption. I mean, they did fail at making warrior into a blood tank. Right now I'm believing that the 'dark' magic will be simply used to mitigate and generate aggro. Either by making the dark night turn into dark magic smoke thing (enemy stabs the dark knight, it just goes through him, the spot that was stabbed swirls with smog and the dark knight moves away, reforming still unhurt, which is technically a form of ninja blink tanking) or simply coating the dark knight's armor for damage reduction (basically the same as pld and war but have another way of activating them, not just pushing a button or collecting points).
Well there goes the chances of samurai coming out... Gratz to all the DRKS out there.
Actually this makes a lot of sense.
Introduce a new tank class with a new dps class. More people leveling up tanks and playing when new DPS is hitting the dungeons.
