I've had 2 logitech dual shocks for over 8 years and use htem nonstop, and they're still perfect. little dirty, and have cleaned them once or twice, but I reccomend them.

Whenever I'm using the wireless xbox 360 controller and it turns itself off, I can't turn the controller on and play with it until I've restarted the client. I read something about this not being an issue during the alpha/beta testing, so I'm hoping it will eventually be fixed (I'm assuming this problem goes with all wireless controllers) since I only have this problem with this game.
In the Config Program for FFXIV, try setting the calibration correction to 0.5
My wired Xbox 360 controller was doing what the OP was reporting while it was at 0.1, and it was endlessly annoying. After raising it to 0.5, controller works like a charm.
Im using a wired Xbox360 controller. Never had any issues with it. I have had other brand controllers, and never again. Logitech, Snakebyte etc just feels like they are less well built then PS3 Dualshocks or Xbox360 controllers.
I know if i had any of these issues you guys are talking about. Then I would open it up and clean it, maybe look for broken solderings or damaged wires etc. Ive done this ever since the Atari joystick/Amiga Zipsticks ^^
Sorry i took so long to reply, but i ended up given this controller another shot, since it was only 12.99 on amazon, that was a week after this post, this one seems to be working fine, but to be honest, i had that other one since CE realease, so need time to see if the same problem happens again...ill keep you posted!!
Don't fret. Same issue here, I found bashing it against something works for awhile..
