The new emporer is Solus' Grandson. His younger son (Being the deceased older son's brother) and grandson (Son of the Elder Sibbling) were the two side in the War of Succetion. And the Grandson won Prusumably by killing his uncle since that's kind of how it works. It also said none were left who COULD oppose him rather than would. So it may be that any non-supporters he has simply won't rebel due to the futility of it.

So far the ranks were sas for liuetenants, van for generals, zos for emperors and deus for gods/people with god complexes. Now we learned that before being crowned emperor Varis was named Varis yae Galvus. Yae could be prince, noble or royalty. This still leaves out Nero and Cid. As far as I know Cid was a minister as his father so nan is probably that, but what does tol designate?

It's worth remembering that Varis is referred to as zos Galvus later on in the patch content. This pretty much confirms that zos is reserved for the sitting Emperor (and was perhaps the honorific for the old President/whatever of the former Garlean Republic?) and yae is for the royal family. Varis went from "yae" to "zos" on his ascension.
"Sas", meanwhile... is something I would expound upon if I didn't have to go get dinner and then do some other things. :V Needless to say, I actually think there's more going on with "sas" than just being a lieutenant title. Take a good look again at the two most prominent people with "sas". What is their backstory, how do people treat them? -
