His female form in T9 has pointed ears like an Elezen too. As far as I know, he's not even taking the form of a specific woman. Bahamut just shaped him into a girl for some reason.

Or Bradamante named her halberd after herself, and Darnus took it as a trophy.
Anyway. Whoever that guy is he is a very nice outfit. Perhaps Jinra-Geki is right and he is simply a one scene wonder to show how awesome Nael is, but still I'm very interested in seeing how he factors into the fight against Shiva.
So it's his nephew, loved seeing the resurgance of the Empire in Dreams of Ice.
I'm honestly surprised I thought he killed the rest of his family. Though it seems like royal family didnt get along well if him spitting on his coffin is considered.
I thought it was his grandson?
The new emporer is Solus' Grandson. His younger son (Being the deceased older son's brother) and grandson (Son of the Elder Sibbling) were the two side in the War of Succetion. And the Grandson won Prusumably by killing his uncle since that's kind of how it works. It also said none were left who COULD oppose him rather than would. So it may be that any non-supporters he has simply won't rebel due to the futility of it.
So Varis won the game of thrones(sorry). I hope he will be pretty active in the story. Is it wrong to imagine him with Crispin Freeman's voice?
On a slightly related note: How much do we know about Garlean naming conventions? With Varis we got a new title. So far the ranks were sas for liuetenants, van for generals, zos for emperors and deus for gods/people with god complexes. Now we learned that before being crowned emperor Varis was named Varis yae Galvus. Yae could be prince, noble or royalty. This still leaves out Nero and Cid. As far as I know Cid was a minister as his father so nan is probably that, but what does tol designate?
Ferne had mentioned he'd try to get some information put together on this at some point, so there's always a possibility of it popping up unless they decide to reveal any significance to their naming conventions in-game through the story~
In the mean time, the general consensus seems to be the following. Most seem very heavily implied or inferred. We do know that the surname prefix / middle name relates to their standing in Imperial society and/or their military (As was mentioned by Ferne in that post), so that makes things much easier to narrow down.
Zos = Emperor
Van = Legatus
Tol = Tribunus Laticalvius
Sas = Tribunus Angusticalvius
Rem = Pilus prior
Nan = Minister? Cid and his father had this prefix, and were both (grand) ministers of industry at one point. They were also both revered engineers in Imperial society, as well as members of the Imperial court, so it could be any number of things.
Yae = This could be related to the royal family. It could also refer to the High Legatus, as that was the station Varis held prior to ascending to the throne.
Actually... maybe Darnus IS Bradamante before she went all out cosplaying a guy.
Maybe her father always wanted a son and treated her like crap.
Maybe it is some Garlean succession rules that no females can have position of power in the Military.
The warrior maiden is her all along.
I'd wager that it sees it's self as a seperate being because it knows it's just an Aetheiric clone of Nael and dosn't pretend to be the Origenal. After all, Neal is Dead. and as far as I know (Having not cleared final coil) Louisoux is also gone and what we see of him is mearly a Clone as well.
It's worth remembering that Varis is referred to as zos Galvus later on in the patch content. This pretty much confirms that zos is reserved for the sitting Emperor (and was perhaps the honorific for the old President/whatever of the former Garlean Republic?) and yae is for the royal family. Varis went from "yae" to "zos" on his ascension.
"Sas", meanwhile... is something I would expound upon if I didn't have to go get dinner and then do some other things. :V Needless to say, I actually think there's more going on with "sas" than just being a lieutenant title. Take a good look again at the two most prominent people with "sas". What is their backstory, how do people treat them?
Man, I'll have to watch it again. BUt from what I got was that this successor is the younger nephew of the black wolf. I think. Ill watch again and report back.
Nope, it's his grandson. Who fought his uncle, the previous emperors... son, or son in law.
Yea that's it!
The thought had briefly crossed my mind, but ultimately I believe Rhitatyn and Livia both shared the same rank, just not the specific title. Unless I'm mistaken, I think the tribunus laticlavius had five seperate tribuni angusticlavi serving underneath him, and the praefectus castrorum (Rhitatyn) was just a glorified tribunus angusticlavi with a little bit more responsibility in maintaining equipment and fortifications. Therefor, since they're both technically tribuni angusticlavi, they both are sas(sy).
At the end of the day, Livia was likely a pureblood (Judging off her body structure, name, and equipment. Her helmet has the third eye glass, where as Rhitatyn does not.), where as Rhitatyn was a Roegadyn. That alone would give Livia much less of a struggle in Imperial society I'd imagine, despite being orphaned.
I like this. I like this a lot, haha. Might very well refer to military ranking specifically, which would explain why Cid and his father would be higher up in the alphabet despite being significant figures in the empire. Seeing as van equates to Legatus, yae seeming to equate to High Legatus, and zos quite clearly referring to the emperor, I think you might be on to something~
Pretty sure he's dead, since we saw his grandson spit on his coffin and all.
True. The fact that Nael was tempered by Bahamut the elder primal (Or elder eikon as the garlens may call them) would actually strip Nael of any credibility since Eikons are the equivelent of false gods to the Garlen Empire. So god like power or not, being tempered was a display of weekness. Especially since Nael was also a pure blooded Legautus from a Nobel blood line. Getting tempered would be disgraceful.
