3 hour maintenance for special dye?

I wish they were at least tradeable to other characters, since the characters I would want to dye these colors are not the one with the lvl 50 retainer

Retainer stuff. Now I need to level one. :/

I never understood why everything SE releases includes a Server Downtime and Maintenance. Why is it never just a Patch you can download anytime and continue playing? I mean not even for the smallest things they add like a few dyes lol?

So I guess that not only is there an ilvl threshold (i80), getting better gear drastically increases your chance of getting them dyes and stuff. I'd guess it goes like this:

<i80 = no chance
i80 = minimum, low chance
i90 = mid, fair chance
i100= high, high chance

My retainer is ilvl 90 and the message didn't change. 80 seems to be the threshold.

Because not every game works that way. Whatever data that the servers get updated with, the clients need to be updated as well or you got a mess of problems. Even if you could download as you play, you'd probably be forced to logoff and reboot the game anyway.

At least it's from quick ventures and not the 18 hours. The RNG is already bad enough on those. Been trying to get the tapir minion since it was added but my 18 hour ventures always just result in Coeurl or hyppogryph skins.

I'm okay with these new dyes being untradable as long as they add other methods of acquiring them. I think they would make a great Gold Saucer prize.

With my ilvl82 Monk. I just got 2 pots of metallic silver dye, so I guess it's not that uncommon. Or was I just lucky this time round? :( I'll keep doing it and see guess the chances on these.

Oh goody, a reason to do ventures again. I want Jet Black and Pure White dyes so bad.

My retainer is only level 26. What's the fastest way to level her up? Full ventures, or the quick ones?

Full ventures give a good amount of EXP. Quick ventures give EXP based on what they find and that's subjected to RNG.

quickest is probably regular 1 hour ventures, the 18 hour ones uses the least amount of ventures.

So if I understand correctly, you retainer must be any DoW, DoH or DoL lvl 50 + be at least iLvl 80 to bring back those new dyes?? And this is with quick exploration venture right?

well so far ive done about 12 quick ventures and haven't gotten any dye. Retainers are all i80-i100

Minus my miner retainer which is impossible to attain an Ilvl that high with miner gear itself, nothing yet

For DoW and Magic yea lvl 50 min ilvl80. It's much much harder to get an ilvl increase for DoL retainers so I'm guessing their threshold is a lower ilvl or a certain gathering/perception limit.

Cannot have a DoH retainer, only with DoW and DoM does ilvl matter, for DoL it is based on gathering stat

OP, that's not all a 3 hour maintenance does.

Are these dyes reusable? Because it says that the Retainers can only obtain each of them ONCE. And well the dyes are Untradable and Unsellable so that seems to indicate that we will be getting a max of 4 of each color PERIOD. And that seems pathetic to me.

For DoL it is gathering. You need 383 for miner/botanist and 308 for fisher to be able to go on ventures XIV (ilvl 80 for DoW/DoM).

I think you've missread it, they said "ONCE they reach a certain item level" not obtain them once.

Probably been stated, but people this far into the life cycle of MMORPGs still don't realize servers going down for 1-24 hours isn't solely for what they're work on? >.>

Nope. I don't think many people realize how important simply restarting the servers every so often is, or how often changes invisible to us (performance enhancements as an example) are applied in these patches.

Well, out of 16 quick ventures so far, I've gotten 3 sets of 2x dye (2 jet black and 1 pure white) so it doesn't seem terribly rare, which is a good thing unless you're looking to dye a chess set in the colors. I've only gotten 1 HQ chub in that, so maybe it replaces the NQ fish, heh.

What level/ilvl is your retainer, if you dont mind me asking? I'm just curious, because mine is only lvl 26, and I'm wondering if I have no shot at these until she reaches 50.

I wish I'd never made one of my retainers a DoL. It's much harder to gear up a DoL well enough than a battle job.

i guess u need ilvl80+ for dyes , no luck yet

It's more difficult to get the level needed for DoL than it is for DoW/M. To get the 383 for my miner, i needed to farm up another Forager's Dolabra AND use top gathering gear melded with gathering materia.

A few notes on gearing up DoL: If you get yourself a Supra, you can give your no-longer-needed Foragers to your retainer. That's what I did for my FSH. As far as gear goes, you only need gathering materia. Because you only need gathering materia, and Guerdon Is give +3 (vs Guerdon IVs, which give +6), and nothing has a cap of 15+, the level of the materia is immaterial. Just take the cheapest rank (sometimes IIs are cheaper than Is) and meld away until cap. It's surprisingly cheap, though certainly not free. And, if you hate buying materia, SB it yourself. It takes like, 20 minutes to SB a full suit of pure ilvl 45-48 gathering gear (apart from rings/weapon).

So, the dyes are untradeable, but you can trade dyed equipment. Dying them the new colors doesn't make them untradeable, right? I wonder how much you could sell dyed hempen clothing for, or spring skirts, or whatnot...

Do the stats on gear actually affect the outcome or is it only ilevel? My retainer is il81 but wearing Strength accessories as a Conjurer.

Side Note:

I fed my Snow White Chocobo the same amount of treats that turned him Snow White in the first place and his tailfeathers are now changing color. It didn't seem like anything was going to happen until the very end when my last three Valfruit started giving me the message. His RGB is like 256, 256, 256 now. Here's hoping for Pure White (^_^)

My DoW retainer is i84 (well, 100 now), my botany and miner retainers are both gathering 384, and my fisher is 341. Basically, if you qualify for XIV ventures you qualify for the "rare item" message that signifies you can get rare stuff from quick ventures, including the dyes,

Whelp, transferred my main BLM and WHM gear to my retainers and managed to break i80 on both of them, so while my odds may not be stellar, I'll put through tokens for a while and see what happens.

Finally some use for those 50k seals anyway.

You don't need another forager's tool. Just fully meld Gathering on everything, I think some slots don't even accept Gathering materia at all. Also use crafted i70 battle accessories instead of the gathering specific ones. They are All Classes, GP is useless for retainers, and they have a higher +Gathering cap that adds up.

..Just seen a dragoon in the dye'able AF gear with Metallic Gold... not a pleasant sight to say the least. Horribly tacky looking..sadly FL popped before he could explain his fashion faux-pas, upon me remarking in my honest and lovey way... xDD

Yep, pretty bummed about this. Both of my retainers are gatherers. Now I have to reset one because I 'm not about to spend a fortune to meld them.

As far as I'm aware you can send retainers on Quick Ventures with any ilvl. Higher ilvl just increases the chance of getting rare items.

Dragoon AF already dyes metallic, so it probably wasn't actually the new dye?

Tested with metallic silver, assuming it's the same for metallic gold, can someone test with the pure white/jet black?

I'm not gonna waste one of my Pure Whites, but the Dye button is available to click. I assume that message didnt come up until after you clicked it though?
