Just input this in the chat box to quit.

I don't know make it the ESC button? you can't hit that by mistake and top of that everyone know that ESC = cancel lol
If it's something like that to click, it won't work so well since this is a controller-based game. I was thinking maybe instead of pressing up/down to select synthesis types, maybe it'd be an option to press right or something to move the cursor over to the cancel button. I dunno, what do you think?
How 'bout instead of simply clicking the cancel button, you have to do a "press and hold" click? Hold the button down on "Cancel" for 5 seconds so the game knows you really really mean it!
And seriously, add a table flipping animation. Everybody wants one.
I'd also like to suggest an angry animation for botched syntheses. Right now stuff blows up in our face and we just sit there with blank expressions.
Remember the goldfish scooping events in FFXI, and how sad us poor Tarus looked when our scoops got torn? Something I enjoy the most in FFXIV is watching the expressions on my character's face during cutscenes.
you also have to take into account for the controller aspect of the cancel button, if you make an 'x' close button they would still have the option of accidentally closing it.
Instead why not have a button combo? for controller players you have to push both the square and triangle button (PS3 controller); this is the most unnatural simultaneous button finger placement. On keyboard/mouse configurations use the 'esc' key? I mean you don't really ever need to have you hand over in that area when crafting anyway (since you'd be using the arrow keys to select your synthesis options) and if you are mainly using the mouse you never have to worry about hitting it on accident since there is no on screen "quit" button (but I assume if you have a mouse you have a keyboard, but if you have a keyboard you don't necessarily have a mouse).
That's how I would do it anyway.
I recommend a typed command. /cancel or something of the sort. Also while on the crafting topic is anymore work being done on the typing while crafting thing? I hate getting interrupted while trying to type when I am crafted every few seconds, this has got to go.
Click on a check box in crafting window makes a option on bottom to cancel.
for keyboard only people like me pressing a specific key turns the check box on/off like "End" key to End/Quit crafting.
at least that key I know I don't press as often as the Esc key and can't say I pressed it by mistake! + have to choose option after checking the box to actually quit.
I definitely want the option of throwing my crafting station across the way when things start to explode.
Add some normal way of canceling, like esc for keyboard users, and then have a pop-up confirmation window. For mouse users put some X to the top-right like suggested with same confirmation pop-up.
OP sig is bangerang. Just sayin'.
A button hold sounds good for Gamepad users, like someone mentioned. Have the cancel option be an option in the craft menu and you have to hold confirm over it for, say, 3 seconds?
Actually thinking about it, none of the other gamepad buttons are used besides confirm and cancel. Just make it so we have to hold down the active/passive mode switch button to give up a synth on a gamepad, or something like that.
if you want to make it absolutely foolproof on PC you can make it a slash command for now...
/destroycraft
/tablethrow
/doover
maybe not the last one, but something like that ^^
edit: oh and make it so when the bar times out your text box isn't destroyed or else my idea weakens.
A menu option below Careful Synthesis and above Wait would work. Just add a confirmation dialog box after you press it. Alternatively, holding the cancel button for a few seconds like someone else suggested might work fine as well. Either of these would be harder to accidentally trigger than the dozen or so times I've inadvertently aborted a synthesis by starting Firefox when an update was ready to install.
:O a community rep response, in one of my posts? Does I win the game? I has a button! It's called table flip button! Thank you for the info Rukkirii! Maybe Me, You, and Bayohne can team up sometime on Wutai, and do a 45 dungeon and throw our crafting tables at enemies out of a fir of rage?
Not trying to be an ass about this, and since I don't craft much maybe I don't have an opinion, but wouldn't a terribly failed synth be enough to tell you that you you shouldn't try it again?
They need an event where if the craft is totally kicking your ass, your element is crazy, and the orb is glowing, then there will be a 1% chance on a rapid synth that it'll explode and kill you in town.
Oh, just tie it to the jump feature like everything else.
JUMP TO WIN THE GAME!
Youd think that, but it really does seem like the success and failures happen with no rhyme or reason at times, even for stuff you should be able to make in your sleep.
At any rate, I would love the following commands
/craftrage
/fliptable
/smashtable
/throwtools
/tableupsiderandompersonshead

(If it doesn't it go right to the part, start at 2:02)
This is exactly what i want to do, infact I want this part to play when I hit the quit button!
When you craft, these buttons on the Gamepad are never used:
Emote list
Menu
Cancel
and the Keyboard almostly never receives the ESC as an input while crafting, so...
Cancel Synthesis: ESC (Cancel Button)
I think it'll work, and as a result our Character will take the table from its bottom and flip it on the air (optional addition). That would be great!
Wish we had this, but the closest thing we have to it is rapid synthesis... It's basically the same thing, just you need to press it a few times.
I know this was looked into. Any new development on it though?

Whell, it whould seem twhey are stwhill where.
I support this, having a rage quit button would make crafting much less "stressful" ಠ_ಠ
