This would be a good idea, I do fear the day my security token battery runs out.
yea.. so
how do we replace the battery anyway?
My friend plays wow and he has it on his iPhone too. Jealous!!!!
just adding my 2 cents as well, would love to have an iphone authenticator.
Wouldn't a phone add to the clutter of a desk more then the authenticator they have now?
And not us not forget Symbian and MeeGo
I think that would be a great idea. I loved having a mobile authenticator for when I played WOW. Phone is big and usually always close to me. While token is securely fastened to my desk next to my PC so i dont loose it. Plus no need to worry when/if the battery in the token dies and you are locked out of the game cause of it.
Hope SE makes one:)
I've always been wanting an app for my iPhone for this to replace my CE authenticator! Currently I just keep it on my keychain but always keep forgetting to keep my keys by me when I sit down to play but my phone is always there in my pocket >_<
Already posted here but yeah, we need a smartphone app for this.
This is a stupid idea. Soft tokens are a stupid idea.
There's no difference security-wise in having the app on your phone or on your computer.
People are just too security inept to know the difference.

Hey Quesse, is this a stupid idea? I can't tell if you think it's stupid. Is it stupid? Perhaps you should let us know how stupid you think it is.
:cool:This is an awesome idea. I loved having my mobile authenticator for Rift. Too often would i have to hunt for my authenticator. Please seriously consider this SE.
I would also like there to be an authenticator for iPhone, I often travel and don't want to lose my authenticator. SE this could be very useful. WOW and Star Wars and I guess Rift have these apps. Please let us know something on this. Is it in the planning?
This would be a nice option!
As for other games using it, the Tera open beta last year used the Verisign VIP Access iPhone app for authentication.
bump..........................
I can see the threads now:
"My phone was hacked and someone stole my FFXIV account info!"
Cracking a password is easy. The point of an authenticator is to prevent someone from easily hacking your account. Hence why it is a completely separate device instead of software on your PC or your phone, etc. If someone hacks your phone they have your authenticator, your personal information, and it's not a far stretch to figure out from there your e-mail, your user name, hack your password, then bam account compromised.
Of course the likeliness of this happening is slim, but still. A separate piece of hardware is way more secure then a software version.
Would be nice. They have android and Iphone auth apps for Rift as well. Well rift now has mini game and AH buying ability on android.
How about a craftign app, just a abilit yto log in and craft stuff...
There is no difference of having a seperate device or a generator on a phone. FIrst off, your Account is not linked in anyway to the authenticator on the phone. It simply generates the next code, the same as a seperate device.
If a person had your device ID and last code, they could guess it as easy as on a phone if they had the code. However cell phoen app versions are actually more secure. THey can be updated, use encryption, and reassigned. Rift uses 128bit ssl encryption and re randomizes your code generation algorythem every 7 days. An authenticator device cna not be updated in that way.
I approve of this idea, just because if my clients wanted something like this I would be making a hole lot more money ^.^. And if phones only use 128 bit encryption than um............... yeah, theres freeware out there that can crack that stuff and If i was using my actual corporate software i could crack it in about an hour, hour and a half? although I did only do that once and it was at defcon.
Remember the quieter you become the more you can hear, damn i love that line. Long live ID10T and PEBKAC errors ^.^
