For some reason I have this horrible feeling it's only going to change the feather tips, like the legacy/recruit one. It might actually be the whole chocobo, but remember, this is SE lol

"Seeds suitable for cultivating O'Ghomoro berries─a favorite amongst chocobos, and known to deepen the blue hues of their feathers."
Nah, doubt it. It's definitely gonna be the whole chocobo. Would be freakin' weird if the fruits to alter feathers just aimed for the tips. If it's just the feather tips, may as well not do it for the amount of time/resources you have to use. The design for wedding chocobos which are full white is gonna come out soon anywho which definitely means, full color cover is doable at the very least. Lastly, legacy peeps would flip countless tables if it were to happen.
inb4 goobbue complaints, different models
was hoping there was going to be pics of the chocos with different colors.
There won't be any pics till tomorrow.
posting to keep track of thread. grow faster seeds!
keep this up.
I believe in you brave Chocobo coloring pioneers.
White Chocobos, White Chocobos everywhere!
I planted all 3 seeds. I used Grade III Gridanian Topsoil. So, I hope I get great yield!
Planted 6 seeds(for each light/dark combo) with shroud 3 soil last night. Will post yield once it's done. Interested in the results(want mah green choco nao!!!)
I had a huge post written up about how I'm applying the scientific method, but I held a button down too long and lost it.
Short of it is, I should have fruit early today. I'm performing two experiments to find out whether the value of the chocobo's feathers (desert yellow) is a true or null value and whether RGB is true or a variant on pigment spectrum using RGB as primary colors (even though that's wrong, it'd actually be a preferable option for a lot of reasons I had outlined in the original post.)
Results should be very informative.
It also came with a warning I'm eager to post anyways: If you're not willing to gamble, WAIT a while before attempting to color your chocobo. Any assumptions you make about the default state of the chocobo and the color scale could be wrong and very costly. (Especially if you're buying fruit from the first round that will inevitably be up on the MBs for absurd prices.)
Maintenance is coming up and will delay me a bit, but I'm still hoping to have results posted soon.
Ooh nice work all. Our seeds will get harvested today I think. First thing I'm going to do is pump my choco full of +blues to see if it goes white but look forward to seeing everyone's pics. We need to solve this mystery ASAP. :D
I'll help you out a little here.
If RGB is TRUE and Chocobo value is TRUE AND "+Blue" slides along the scale towards brightness, in spite of it saying "darkening" then you'll get white.
if RGB is TRUE and Chocobo value is TRUE and +Blue is as advertised, you're actually not gonna move the color at ALL. It's going to get more yellow if anything, because the yellow in question may not be "true yellow"
There's other potential results, but the odds of you getting white that way are not the strongest. Good luck to you though. I'm doing the same thing with my bird, but I'm trying to make it dark blue. (I'm hoping current value of the chocobo is a null value and RGB is inverse.)
If it goes by RGB and the starting value is yellow: to get red, you remove green. Not add red.
But it says "desert yellow", which isn't normal yellow. To get red, you'd remove green and blue. Otherwise you will have maroon.
If you all are right, will feeding my chocobo red and blue light, and darken green, make it purple?
36 o'ghomoro berries harvested using T3 Shroud Soil, very fast growth. Dye berries will be cheap enough.
The first berry you give tells you "(your bird's name)'s plumage will change in 6 hours." You can still feed it again immediately but I did not get the color change message, so it may have been wasted.
Also, remember that you can't remove your chocobo from the stables for those 6 hours!
Damit... I should of kept my off-garden to chocobo feed. Was hoping to capitalize on these for profit.
Ganna have a shite-ton of dark blue at least....
Edit: Han lemon seeds seem to yield only one lemon... Might be wise to choose carefully which path you will colour... or plant more lemon seeds. I haven't used shroud soil on it though since I felt it wouldn't be important but it may have only increased the yield by one or two.
Edit2: I know this thread is focused on the dying results but for those curious, crossbreeding han lemon seeds with Krakka root and/or Valfruits yielded gyashl green seeds.
Dye seeds planted on patch day are ready for harvest already. I can not count, how many times we fertilised, but without fertilisation total grow time should be about 48 hours (maybe a little more). Will have to wait for the FC mate to log in and harvest to see the result, since we are on the agreement that you only harvest the seeds you planed.
I am a little late, it seems :)
I'm stilll assuming it's the RGB table divided by 50. 5/5/5 instead of 255/255/255. Every fruit would add or subtract 51 of the real RBG value.
The standard chocobo colour is "desert yellow", I'm assuming every colour has its own unique name. They'd want a wide range of colours, 5/5/5 would result into 125 unique colours. Still seems like a lot, even though you could completely change the colour of your chocobo with 15 snacks or less.
U_U Why does this have to be so complicated? Add red dye, should add/increase red. Nope!
I don't really understand all this adding and subtracting colors to make other ones.
Where I come from Red + Blue = Purple. Yellow + Blue = Green. Yellow + Red = Orange. Etc. etc.
Why can't things be simple? ;_;
That's what I've already mentioned in this very same thread ;)
They're using the same colour (names) as the colour dyes already in game (indeed minus pigments and urushis and instead Terebinth we have Lemon).
I'm glad you brought this up, because I've got this to share in terms of cross-breeding from the new fruit seeds:
http://i.imgur.com/DUcEuba.jpg <---- 9 curiel root seeds obtained in 1 go
I'm going to be honest, I don't remember the soil I used for this bed, but I'm almost convinced it was a side-by-side mixture of the chamomile I had near it with G3 Thanalan Soil that was planted prior to the patch, and the O'Ghomoro Berry seed with G3 Shroud soil planted after that must have made it produced 9 curiel root seeds and 36 O'Ghomoro Berries. Either that or it could have been the Xelphatol Apple with some sort of Shroud Soil added in to produce it. Never seen this happen before considering I've only used G3 Thanalan Soil for all cross-breeding excursions. I'm baffled, dumbfounded, and completely mind f***ed to say the least...
I fed it one of each feed however I only received a prompt that plumage will change in 6 hrs for the first I fed. Merely testing but if you can feed and feed and feed each color, AND they register as changing plumage, perhaps this dying process will be relatively short.
Yeah, Shroud soil can still crossbreed, but it's very rare (maybe 10% at best), but on the other hand you get multiple seeds. Interesting that it crossbred though, might make for some lightning-fast (well, comparatively) crossbreeding for specialty choco feed.
Hmm good thing I have a couple of slots free there... should dump in some more soil and plant them...
Really? Holy crap, so I guess my guess was correct then. I suppose the 2 plants, one with Thanalan soil and the other with Shroud soil really did increase the cross-bred seed result yield. I never knew that was even possible, even after reading all the guides, forum threads, and Google documents. This is truly insightful and also incredibly spontaneous, to say the least, considering I've been trying to get more curiel seeds in order to produce some more Thavnairian Onions.
Thanks for the insight!
too complicated and gil sinking.
another disappointment. this game keeps making me dislike it more and more. what's next? grinding something 100 hours for a new hairstyle?
I don't see how it is gil sinking when all you need to do is buy soil and be able to garden. Also #colorstoohard
I want an orange one \o/ I'm grateful to everyone going out there and being test subjects, I'm hopefully going to be able to free up one of our patches tonight to get started!
Fed my chocobo 36x of all 3 "Lightening" feeds so gonna see how it turns out in a while, about 3-4 hours.
I'm sorry to say so but you've just wasted 35 out of those 36 fruits. Only first one will apply the colour change, next could be used (and registered) after 6 hours. But indeed I applause to your courage!
Also - you can see my today's harvesting results of chocobo colouring food at The Big Gardening thread ;)
Now the question is if those are stacking or overwriting each other (e.g. only the last one fed will affect the actual colour change)? While we all hope for former I'm still affraid it's the latter ... At least with the current yield and fast grow it's fairly inexpensive to test it.
XIVDB is wrong (as in many other times) - I'm still amazed how people rely on unofficial sources / DBs while we have perfectly valid official DB at Lodestone ... (while other unofficial DBs might have more advanced search / comparefunctions they are often outdated / incorrect).
although it seems obvious... we don't know for sure. Thank You zander for doing what i would have been itching to do lol. except the mental image of shoving 36 fruits down your chocos face hole screaming "WHY WON"T YOU CHANGE" is making me giggle.
edit: and to everyone saying this is to complicated... lol.... just smh lol.
Not everyone has access to FC gardens, mate. If the FC can only afford a small house then they only have one plot to play with. And some FCs might have permission set up so that only the master or officers have access to the garden so people dont mess up weeks of crossbreeding. And even if they do have access to a garden, one person might be dominating the use of it, leaving no room for people to come along and plant things for themselves.
So not as easy as "be able to garden"
never mind how much it takes to get to garden (FC house and what not)
This process takes exactly 000.000000 gil if im not mistaken?
15 seals for seeds - easily mine-able soil - time
how exactly does that make this a gil sink?
