This is because of one of WHM's traits "Proshell", so basically a WHM's protect is both Protect and Shell in one (but a crossclassed Protect is just Protect!).
Hmmmm.
Geomancer as an MP tank branching from Conjurer with the ability to use the terrain to create shields, barriers and counters for themselves.
Funny thing, couple of my friends and I had an idea called the "S&M Mage". It was a healer that only cured for small amounts. Scaring the tank (and the entire pt) into thinking they could die at any moment and would force them to play better.
I think if you mixed HumsterMKX's idea and mine together it would be the stuff of nightmares.
Green Mage, Sage, Elementalist, Alchemist could be a potential healer job, beside Dancer. Scholar was never a healer job per se until FF11 and FF14.
Well Scholar wasn't even actually anything till FF11 & FF14 lol before they were just a scan ability made into a job and in FF11 they were a red mage without a sword, which is pretty dumb so I hope if SE ever remakes any FFs or makes new FFs with Scholars in it they make the fairies into a staple for them.
Would be interesting to have a healer type summoner job in FF since in the history of the series summoner has always acted more as black mages.
I'd like to see dancer return as a front line healer/dps class. But I'd build that off of the duel daggers class coming in 2.4.
For brand new, I'd love to see Time Mage brought in as some type of class, along with Red Mage having the ability to Tank, or DPS. With their en spells, they could en for defense, or damage, etc, much like how WAR works. :)
Just a thought. :)
Red Mage as a tank would be pretty awesome if done right.
Red Mage or Beastmaster for the tank.
Dancer for the healer.
Seer only for the Cat-Hood. If it's too similar to WHM can we still have the hood?
Samurai tank. Corsair as healer / buffer.
I'd love to see:
- PUG -> Dancer (Healer) (TP healing, heals use the style system, song-like abilities (reduce damage, heal), can crossclass CNJ)
- BLM -> Oracle (Healer) (Basic Heal is Fire aspect (so Astral Fire increases heal strength and cost), uber-heal eats all MP, etc)
- GRT (Great Sword) -> Samurai (Tank)
- TMR (Tamer) -> Beast Master (Tank) (uses pet to tank)
- ROG (Rogue) -> Duelist (Tank) (dex-based)
- MUS (Musketeer) -> Chemist (Healer) (doesn't use consumables, but mixes potions (stackable buffs) and spends them to heal/cure/buff; mix: long cast time, throw: instant)
- Alternatively, ROG (Rogue) -> Chemist (Healer) (ROG poisons turn into heals instead)
Also, a bit off topic, but:
- GLA -> Dark Knight (DPS, self-harm focus)
- MRD -> Berserker (DPS)
- CNJ -> Geomancer (DPS? Healer with zone focus (spells akin to Sacred Soil/Shadowflare)? Dunno)
- ARC -> Ranger (DPS, different flavor than BRD)
- MUS -> Corsair (DPS)
- GRT -> Red Mage (DPS, uses TP and MP)
- TMR -> Hunter (DPS, uses pet to DPS)
Gun Blade class
-Tank Job = Melee combat of Gunblade
-DPS job = Range combat of Gunblade
Musketeer class
-Healer Job = Chemist Job
-DPS Job = Gunner Job
Dancer healer for sure!
Chemist would be cool too, depending. If you were forced to craft or buy everything you needed to heal, I would not waste my time with that job.
This . Soooooooo much. But sadly, I think it won't happen, as we already got a sword wielding tank. ( and yes I know the difference, but is it different enough in SEs eyes? )
I think the tank classes could really do with something with extra "cool" factor, to draw more people into playing tanks.
As for healers...I'm not sure really. Already got a staff healer and a book/pet healer. What more could be done?
I would like to see a DoM tank. However that would look. Probably shields, buffs and a long board with a rusty nail on it!
For a healer, I'd like to see a chemist. It would work well with the alchemist craft class and might actually find a use for all those potions that I've never used...
There are tons of different flavors of healing that can be added that would feel completely different.
- TP healer (heal too often and you run out - have to manage rate of heals)
- Melee healer (need to be in melee range to heal)
- Pre-cast healer (heals are prepared ahead of time, but spent instantly)
- Zone healer (creates zones on the ground like Sacred Soil, but for healing/curing)
- Combo healer (heals are based on combos like for war/pld)
- Stance healer (heals are based on stances like for mnk)
I really would love to see Blue Mage, but realistically I can see it becoming "Gun Mage" ala ffx-2 which i'd be perfectly fine with but I NEED BLUE MAGE
I hope Musketeer is released as a "Ranged Tank". I recall SWTOR tried to pull this off.
I also hope Chemist is the new Healer. A lot of people are talking about whether to use MP or TP. A related idea would be: rather than solely relying on stats like MND, CRIT, etc, what if Chemist actually relied on their MP or TP pool to boost the effectiveness of their heals? So, rather than rely on Crit to double up your heals/shields like scholar, what if the chemist base heal or base regen was average, but you could apply multiple stacks to boost the effectiveness. You could then stack as many times but each stack would deplete your MP or TP. This could be applied to various buffs or even debuffs as well with diminishing returns.
(posterity)
There is no such thing as a true ranged tank. A boss can be tanked from range, but that's on the boss's mechanics, not player's. You can use ranged abilities while tanking in melee, but at that point, you're just tanking a boss.
I want Dancer as the new Healer job, and to distinguish it from WHM/SCH I'd like it to be debuff-based.
Currently, WHM is the classic healer that produces gigantic green numbers with great efficiency.
SCH is fascinating; the only pet-based healing class I'm aware of, where the pet does a large portion of the actual healing and the character focuses on shields to cushion incoming damage.
The next step IMO is a healer that of course has curative abilities but focuses extensively on reducing the actual damage output of a target. Short-duration, weak, spammable, stacking STR/INT debuffs; (that must stack with Rage of Halone, Dragon Kick, Virus, etc to not neuter any of the other classes involved) cooldowns that convert these debuffs into other effects such as an AOE heal or a temporary, much stronger damage reduction debuff.
They could really just bring the originally-released FFXI Dancer back and update it for XIV, changing Steps from defense-decreasing to offense-decreasing. Sambas are neat, Steps are cool, etc.
TP as a resource is interesting but probably wouldn't work; they'd either need their own TP-regeneration mechanic (which would end up looking a hell of a lot like Aetherflow) or have to have LNC as a subclass, which is both very limiting for healing and nonsensical thematically.
Alternatively Time Mage would be a good other option for a debuff-heavy healer: rather than STR reduction, Time Mages classically have tons of slowing effects, they could use Haste/ga as a cooldown to offer DPS, etc.
Time Mage basic heal would be interesting to see as not something potency-based, but precast heavy: "reverse time, healing X% (70? 80?) of of damage received by the target within the last 2 seconds" This + a Regen effect (Time Mages classically have had access to Regen, but they already gave that exact spell to WHM, so they'd call it something else) could keep tanks alive easily, and with access to another low-cooldown flat heal (10, 15s CD) can top them off before big hits.
I would like to see something new born in the realm of FF14
Not something from previous final fantasy games and it has to have a new name.
Something that would be a stamp on this game, something cool.
Like they did with final fantasy tactics advanced 2.
Nightblade, heritor, keeper, agent. Just something new with a new name.
with cool abilities.
Tank: Dancer (it would be an evasion tank)
Tank: Samurai
Healer: Dancer
Keeping it simplistic.
Hell if they want to get creative with a healer I think Chemist would be a great idea. All sorts of avenues you could take with abillities on that front.
Tank class, eh? I like the idea of a risk-taking class that's adept at absorbing and reflecting damage. I guess something between Rune Fencer and Dark Knight?
Healing class, then. I don't like Chemist. Its usual skill set focuses on expendables and I don't see the appeal. Dancer would be more fun, especially if it's like the FFXI version, given its melee-oriented nature.
You know what I really want?
Puppetmaster! Since Thief is no longer on the table, I had switched my hype focus to Ninja (with copious glamours), but this thread reminded me of another brass ring to which I can cling, and it's firmly welded onto an automaton pet. (Think of it as a convenient travel handle!)
Tank, healer, DPS? Any of these is okay. A hybrid role? Yeah, sure, why not! I could see it branching from Musketeer; Yoshi-P did say the job would be something the player base wasn't expecting. Guns or actuators, whatever it takes to get me a mammet pet. If it's a companion usable by any class or job, that might be even better! However it happens, I need an automaton that isn't just a minion!
I think a good idea would be a shapeshifting class~
I used that type of class in in mmo once before and its so much fun to use and gives you many different options in ways of play.
To adapt it into a final fantasy format, I'll put it this way.
Say when you reach level 30 - instead of getting a 'job' as it were, you learn a new way to shapeshift.
Like you could pick to shapeshift into a certain animal which gives you tanking benefits, dps benefits or healing benefits.
Kinda like being a summoner except you ARE the pet.
I doubt something like this would ever be put into final fantasy, it seems like it would be a total nightmare when it came to dungeons (like... you'd have to lock in on an animal or something), and might make it too unfair on other characters - but hey, I can dream, right?
only Jobs I'd like to see are ones from FFT: WoTL so basically
Tank: Samurai
Heals: Chemist/Dancer(seeing as they pretty much made Bard have the FFT Dancer skills instead),
Dps: Dark Knight, Machinist, Geomancer
Other jobs I'd like to see: Orator(dat Faith and Bravery), Mystic, Sword Saint(the job Orlandeau was would be DPS or Tank)
Tanks
Samurai
Necromancer- Pet is tank, and all skills will be done through pet, while pet is alive the player is immune to all dmg and effects. If pet dies, player is left with 10% hp and pets enmity is transferred to player.(DAoC esque)
Healer
Dancer-Melee healer, uses tp for skills
Priest(ess) - uses ofuda and prayer beads, prayers would be written in chains, different chains would have different effects (similar to how mudras will work)
Or we could give the other jobs more versatility. : O
But that would probably quickly be called loss of identity...
My 2 cents:
Tank (with dps option) - Samurai or Sword Saint
Healer - something new (Spiritweaver, Druid, w/e), or a decently powerful but hybrid take on Dancer
I just want to see Blue Mage as a tank. Something that gets stronger from taking hits so it can learn abilities screams tank to me. Mitigation could be through absorption via Bear tank or brewmaster in WoW. Throw in a CD where it can absorb damage and then reflect it back out. Use Detonate like a bomb for AOE, it's stun can be the electrical discharge that couerls use.
Dancer as a Rogue's healer job. Do it, SE.
It's got FF pedigree, it's a tp based healer class which sets it apart, it doesn't need to stay still, which sets it apart, but it needs to stay in melee range which also sets it apart. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a viable healer job that plays so differently from the others.
Tank? umm... idk
Well the whole Range Tank in SWTOR wasn't really a Range tank. It was more of a Melee Tank that can hit enemies faster when they're far away since the entire time as a Vanguard/Power Tech you are mostly at Melee range to tank them and to use your skills while any range attack was for grabing aggro from mobs that start running away from you or were too far to get back into melee range. Not to mention a good amount of Vanguard/Power Tech skills were melee range attacks.
If FF14 obtains a Range tank that follow like the Vanguard/PowerTech then it most likely may be the Gunblade class since FF14 lore for gunblade is set towards it being a Melee/Range combat weapon similar to how Vanguards and Powertechs of SWTOR handle their weapons. With the tank skills designed around the Gunblade melee combat style to build and keep aggro while using hit range combat skills to grab aggro for its Tank Job Path and having a DPS Job path for Gunblade class follow that it focus on using the Gunblade range combat style for DPS combat while having some melee skills that helps the Gunblade DPS Job fight off or keep its distance from enemies that would try to get in melee range.
That just how I think a Gunblade class/Job could be handled in FF14 due to current combat styles shown through cutscenes in FF14 involving the Gunblade so far.
Gunblades for sure can be used for tanking but a true gunner would feel weird especially since we have classes that would be better suited for the role like puglist and lancer. However, what job would a gunblader unlock it would have to be something completely unique
Well they're aiming for Unique gameplay styles now anyways with the new classes/jobs and a gunblade class/job does provide a unique opportunity for a unique gameplay style due to the weapon's nature for being a melee/range combat weapon in FF14.
I'm more curious what will the Gunblade class/job names will be if added into FF14 since there hasn't been a solid name given to classes that use Gunblades in FF series unlike the other weapons.
I'd like to see Vampire as tank and Templar as healer.
