I would love it if Illusionists were introduced to the game. Harnessing elemental/weather effects for their attacks. They were really nice to play in FFTA.

No, Rogue is Thief.

Truthfully, I wanted the job to be called “Thief,” but the development team wouldn’t have it (laughs). You see, there are guild headquarters in each city for all of the different classes, but if we had a class called “Thief,” it would have to be some kind of underground organization since it wouldn’t make sense to just be out in the open and it would be difficult to include in the main scenario. I told them, well, Limsa Lominsa is a port town and it was once overrun with pirates (laughs)…. but as Thancred pointed out, to properly organize it, the guild would have to be recognized by the nation at least to some extent, and it would be strange if they kept calling themselves “Thieves.” Also, the dual wielding nature of rogues is a form of martial arts that has some respect among Eorzeans, so we intended Rogue to be the Thieves of today.
The English translation goofed, Naoki never said "job" but the English shows that he says that.
This is something I would love to see as well.
Outside of that, I long for a Red Mage.
I'm not sure what makes them think a rogue class is any better in terms of that... it's practically a synonym. It's defined as a dishonest and unprincipled person. It's merely less specific in terms of HOW they are dishonest, as they may or may not steal.Quote:

Drk, I want a class with a two-handed sword.
Class? Fencer (leading to Red Mage (DPS (maybe a little support)) and Mystic Knight (tank).
Job? Time Mage (DPS/CC or healer from THM) or Geomancer (DPS from CNJ).
Otherwise would like to see a Knight class leading to Samurai (tank) & Dark Knight (DPS) jobs; A Musketeer class leading to Corsair (DPS/Support) and Chemist (Healer) jobs; A Flayer class leading to Beastmaster (DPS/Tank) and Blue Mage (DPS/Support); And of course a Ranger job coming off of Archer.
Beast-master / Tamer (with no less custom options than pet class in wow, meaning. Option to name pet, own skillsets etc, maybe even some gear)
Blue Mage
Mystic (disciple of Magic)
-Weapon: Handball
-Job: Geomancer
-Role: Healer/Support
-Similar to FFXI geomancer creates auras to enhance their allies or debuff there enemies.
Flayer (disciple of magic)
-weapon: Whips
-job: blue mage
-role: dps/support
-instead of Learning spells while they level they learn spell slots instead, and similar to FFXIV they learn a large selection of spells.
Warder (disciple of magic)
-weapon: runes
-job: Red Mage
-role: tank
-uses enspells and spike spells to tank basically a rune fencer from Ff11 and a redesign to red mage to fit the class system.
Considering we're short on FF jobs that can fill the role of tank, I'd volunteer BST to be a tank rather than a DPS job (damage split mechanic).
I'd probably hold on job requests until we get more info on 3.0 and what they plan to do with the class/job system. Supposedly Yoshida is looking into either doing some major adjustments or an outright revamp. Now whether this means the classes will be altered to be more like arcanist (abilities leaning towards two possible roles) or whether they're changing the entire class/job dynamics remains to be seen.
Dark Knight, Corsair, Samurai, Blue Mage.
Has to be Red Mage. I just love their 'Jack of all trades' style and I adore their sense of clothing. If they added the job, it would be my instant main. Honorable mentions go to the Blue Mage and the Puppetmaster job from FFXI.
I read what you quoted a few times over and what it's saying is that there won't be a Thief CLASS. Yoshida keeps going back to the point of guilds which is where classes originate, it's all pointing to a CLASS. Do Bards have a guild? The NPC is a guy in South Shroud sitting on a stump. Do Monks have a guild? You're learning from the Ala Mhigan about Monk and their internal energy. Warriors? It's a Roegadyn in hidden falls that's shunned for being a monster
They said Thieves can't be classes, but that won't mean Thief won't eventually be a JOB. Yes he says "We intended Rogue to be the Thieves of today," But like I said, WHAT IF there was a Rogue that rejected Limsa and went on his own. He developed new skills on his own or learned from others (who've also rejected Limsa) Thief based skills. He's getting old and wants to pass on the skills he learned and that's where we come in. After the final Rogue quest we could get a rumor of an elderly thief and we'd have to investigate being a highly recognized Rogue from the guild
If I'm wrong in the future, please call me wrong and I'll admit I was wrong. I won't deny what I said. Until then I'll keep my hopes'
I'm getting way too off topic and in a prior post I posted what I'd like to see added so I'll leave it here
The most OP class is a Master Sabers/Enhancement with a touch of Healer Jedi from SWG Pre-NGE :P I could kill 5-6 Bounty Hunters without breaking a sweat. Any more than that and Id have to kite them around the planet and kill them off one or two at a time :^D /nostalgia
Edit:
Haha wrong thread but I'm still leaving it here cause yeah I want my old Jedi back :P
I wanted to call it Thief.
That's all you need to know about the thought process and the extend of Naoki's vision of thief in FFXIV.
About the name, Even though the development team didn't want it said, I wanted to call it Thief. (how I would read it)Quote:
名称については……開発チームでも本音を言えば“シーフ”と呼びたいのです(苦笑)。

EDIT: However, since SE can do whatever they please with their game as long as they can make it somewhat reasonable, to say Thief (job) is completely off the table would be foolish. I personally doubt that it'll happen since Ninja is in the game unless they do a throwback to XI.
EDIT2: Realized my first link was actually broken

In no particular order
Dark Knight
Red Mage
Blue mage
A job I want the most is Blue Mage
However, I'm pretty sure that with XIV's extremely deliberately designed nature and aversion to situations where a player might fail to 'fully develop' their class capabilities, I'm not sure a Blue Mage in XIV would actually feel particularly Blue Mage-y, if that makes any sense.
So I'll back calls for Dancer and Samurai.
Ill add that making two jobs off of one class is risky at the least. 1) for the sake of skill point allocation (like SMN and SCH) and 2) because so many players would have auto level 50s on a brand new job.
So making Thief branch from Rogue (which will be level 50 if and when Thief comes out) means a slew of fresh level 50s.
They did it with SCH, ill admit, but I don't know of that was super intentional. But this is just a theory thread so,...
Dancer, a thousand times dancer.
Have it be a melee healer like it was supposed to be in XI (but never was) or at the very least, a support dps
Red Mage and Dark Knight for me. Though they are my second choice. Rogue and Ninja was my first choice so I'm excited to see them come in the next major update.
As for the topic of thieves. I don't get why everyone is in a tizzle about them not being called thieves. In D&D they used to be called Thieves until 3.0ed. But I can see why it was changed in D&D and the same reason is being used here:
All Thieves are Rogues. Not all Rogues are Thieves. So you'll be able to do your thiefy thing and dress like a thief with thief weapons as a Rogue and you could even RP as a thief if you wished. But the good news is, anyone wishing to Rp their Rogue as Not a thief could reasonably do so. Thieves are thieves because they commit thievery. But what if you have all the combat capabilities of a thief yet never steal? You are a Rogue in that case. Perhaps you spy, kill, or troubleshoot instead.
Basically the only difference is in the UI will say ROG instead of THF or THI or whatever Thief would have been. Not to mention people coming from previous MMORPGs will instantly recognize the Rogue and what its capabilities will be.
Well eventually but as of now we won't be getting anything beyond Rogue/Thief due to their plan to release the other new classes and Jobs on the 1st expansion and beyond.
However, due to the Gunblade being part of FF14 world it shouldn't be a surprise a Gunblade class/jobs is made but only question is what will a Gunblade class be called and what the names of its Jobs will be called since Gunblades hasn't obtained a name for their class/job in the FF games yet.
(Yoshi-P did mentioned that the Gun class/Job will not be what people expect it to be once it is released. It would be interesting if the Gun class turns out to be the Gunblade class. After all there is two types of Gunblades in this game now being the Long sword Gunblade (often used by Garleans and designed for melee combat more) and the Pistol designed Gunblade( which Cid uses as his main weapon designed more for long range combat like a normal Musket pistol))
Blue Mage.
It's been my favourite in so many Final Fantasy titles. I don't really have much else to say about it, I just love Blue Mage and hope to see it implemented as soon as can be.
2Hand Greatsword
to this this day I question myself why was this not added in day 1.
Ranger/Rifleman/Sniper/Gunhaver.
Musketeer was a major want for me until I found out it's apt to be a dual-wielding pistoleer. :-/
Melee and magick, I don't really care for. There are some classes/jobs of those types I'd like to see included just for world-building purposes, but I'd probably not play them. Granted, as off-base as some of the current classes/jobs are when looking at their concept, even from a world-building perspective, such new jobs are apt to disappoint, so feh...
I'm curious to see how they implement (IF they do) Dark Knight and Samurai. I'm also curious how a firearms-based class/job would be implemented, too.
I believe earlier statement by Yoshi-P was that they have to work on a new class and Jobs to go with that new class when any new weapons are introduced.
I'm guess that Two-handed sword class will have it own unique mechanic so players don't feel like they're just playing a two-handed sword Gladiator once it is released.
As of now it seems their aim will be giving new class/jobs their own special mechanic to separate themselves from the other class/jobs despite having their own roles still within the Trinity of Tank, DPS, or Healer.
Musketeer, it's time already we've waited long enough.
Puppetmaster ftw but I highly doubt it would ever happen.
This thread again?
Dancer.
samurai/shogun two handed sword
squire/cursader two handed blunt weapon
Time Mage, hands down. True potential as a Support/Heal Class. Hastega, Slowga, Stop, Paralysis, healing via rewinding time upon target, Temporal Barriers to suck up damage, SE can have fun with this one. Cant see it as a DPS class, only I could make that happen...kekekeke
Time Mages get Comet and in bravely default, they can use the Quake spells. Also, Slow, Slowga, Stop, Stopga, and Paralysis could all be made into damage/ DoT spells. I could easily see Time Mage as being a DPS/support. In fact, after Ninja (which is coming) and Samurai, I would very much like to play as one. Really, any class/job that has a more unique touch to it interests me a bit. Blue Mage or Gun Mage would be really interesting to see too.
Yoshida did talk awhile back about a 'hybrid' role to take the fourth slot (tank, healer, dps, hybrid), and while he's never spoken positively for a support role, this could be close enough to appease people. Hard to say. Either way, it's liable to create some very interesting classes/jobs ^_^.
Also, earlier someone mentioned Mystic Knight being a tank... and I can't even say how much I'd love that.
I don't care if its healer or DPS/Support but if Time Mage doesn't come off of THM I'll be severely disappointed. Swiftcast (=Quick/Swiftness), Lethargy (=Slow + Gravity), Aetherial Manipulation (=Teleport), Manaward (=Mana Shield) and the caster DPS LB (=Comet/Meteor) all absolutely scream Time Mage.
In addition to this FFXII:RW's Time Mage had access to Thunder and Firaga, the FFT/A series it always required experience in Black Mage and they most commonly used rods (THM's weapon type).
Gunner, or like, anything with a gun.
Srsly, I want to use guns é___è
I want Samurai as well, and a job like the Beastmaster Looksphere in FFX-2...
for a new tank Job, a Pirate would be awesome...
fighting with Axes like the warrior, or using guns....
as a new Healer job, Spiritmaster, or Dancer...
A blue mage, but using a different class, like, Vampire.
(I probably play too much Bravely Default >_>)
Freelancer, or Onion Knight, or whatever you want to call it.
Mix and match abilities from EVERY class.
It would either be an unplayable mess, or breaks the game entirely over its knee.
But, it would be fun and hilarious.
Edit: Also I want Lady Luck from FFX-2 because of the awesome mayhem that created (plus, swanky party dresses)
DPS role -> 2H Sword
Maybe Animist as the class and then Blue Mage and Beast Master as the two jobs?
Weapon of choice: Whip?
That's what I'd like to see (mainly for blue mage to be honest)
