Yes, think of it like the Duty Roulette: you only get the bonus condition once, but you can keep doing it for the usual rewards.

All I'm hoping is that, over the course of the week, they will spawn multiple times and not just a one time thing. You can fight the elite NMs as often as you like, but the bonus (from turning in the kill) would be one time only.
I'd be surprised if this wasn't the case, though.
I'm looking forward to it. Along with everything else. There's too much excitement to have from this patch.
I share everyone's concern that this might just be another mindless bumrush event. Also, are these marks gonna respawn? I would hope so cuz it would be absolutely stupid if you missed out just cuz you weren't there for the initial bumrush, which will almost always happen on the first day, a few hours after reset.
By the way it's being described, I can't see it being anything but a bumrush. I guess the only "hope" is that its limited to once per week, meaning it will die down as the week goes on. However, this also means that you might be at a disadvantage if you do this later rather than earlier.
Another concern I have is the seemingly infinite amount of Allied Seals that you can get. I know there are lots of people out there who has a large amount of time on their hands, which means they can just farm the crap out of Sands and Oils of Time. I'm not sure how to feel about that.
You're all assuming so much :D
Wait until tomorrow please?
The only thing you can assume is that it's like FFXII and in FFXII those were fun and it wasn't as easy as just camping. Also, a lot of people will die to them. It won't be like fates, you will die to a lot of these marks.
Sounds as bad as fates to me. Another potential fail on the devs part. I only use potential because we have not experienced these yet. unless they require a strategy besides throw bodys at it, it is fail.
Mindless zerg fest, no working together to get stuff done.
These will be no different the Odin and Behemoth... epic fail. Boss fights without some kind of claim mechanics DO NOT WORK.
These should of been made either like XI , which the casuals would violently revolt against, or utilize the leve/map style system that is in XIV. Where it can be locked to a group but force spawned.
I love that SE is working on openworld stuff, but OMFG abandon the GW2 dynamic event fate bs. It is just garbage.
I would like to have the old NM system back, i was one of those badass pullers who would get the claim before anyone else w/o using bots, but times are changing, i don't have the time and the crew i used to have, i had passed my last 2 years off ffxi as a solo player because of this.
If SE implements the system correctly it will work, and it will always be better than having everything instanced, this is a step in the right direction.
Quoting myself because i don't think you have seen it:
How are these NM's gonna have the mechanics to be difficult without just being "do you have X amount of players? No? Okay you can't beat me" This game is only hard when they involve 1 shot mechanics and falling off map, so
Pretty much took the words right out of my mouth. They can't balance bosses without knowing how many people, and what classes, are going to be there. It's probably just gonna be a zergfest where you throw bodies at it until it dies, sadly.
I like the way this system sounds. Looks like our world will
finally start to have some liveliness to it. Just gotta see how
they handle making mobs less zergfest.
My only complaint is that it looks like a lot of the gear added
by pvp and hunts is pretty low ilvl.
They really can't. There's no limit or class restrictions, and it's not instanced. The main reason why bosses are engaging is because of their instanced arena's. Interact with this item, protect this structure, fall of this map, hide behind this. It's going to be really hard to add any of that to an open world boss.
Im worried about the part where you say there is no CLAIMS, meaning a behemoth and odin zerg, if they made them pop more often but with a one party claim system would be better, you would have to know the NM mechanics and work hard to get them down.
And teach others how to beat them, I remember in XI stopping to watch a party beat an NM and learn from them a lot.
I think the NM will be up every time the conditions are meet, with a internal cooldown after defeated. The idea should be the mark will be up many times every day. So, you find him, call for ppl and zerg it, get the reward from your quest mark, and you have the rest of the week to kill the same mark till the week reset.
It that case, the only way to make it different from FATE, is that the NM have some AoE that hit for so much that kill player left and right or have kind of mechanics that need to be coordinated. In that case, ppl will be forced to make "groups" balanced depending on NM you are fighting on.
I think they could add a lock out timer, after the NM is pulled you have like 45 sec to join the frey or you are locked out. That way it become like a hunt, be there READY to kill, not just wonder and jump on a elite mark that will mostly will kill you in sec if you unprepared. that would be so much fun and in OPEN world.
Final Fantasy X
Are we going to finally see the Garlock that has a lair behind Costa del Sol?
Not at all, if they make it in a way where you need to pop em with an item like luring an NM with a piece of meat to pop, you would have your own NM just for you, about behemoth and Odin, why not make those like Chimera fight? I don't see a real problem making those an instanced fight for a party to kill em following certain tactics instead of zerging them without any knowledge.
just my humble opinion
Damn I am so pissed off.. I was so looking forward for this.. And all we have is still FATEs.
(NM) FATEs SUCK!!!
I never had fun bashing no challenging big monsters either with 100 people or alone. Not even Odin was fun...
There's absolutely no atmosphere with this system.
I wish they would go back to traditional NMs - at least only for the NMs..
You dont get it Felis, what he means is that elite mark is no different than a fate, pops every x time, around the same place and everyone will come to Zerg it
This elite marks thing is absolute crap D: The B ranked mobs die within seconds, and then dont respawn for hours. Its frustrating. If they are so "elite" atleast make them harder so more folks can join in.
I was so excited for this and now so disappointed. I wanted this to be like treasure hunting and what I got is more boring fate waiting and a super hard boss, that dies in 3 hits and takes hours to respawn...final fantasy XIV: the waiting game..(/rant)
Honestly, I would have preferred something like the original Chimera fight. An instanced mob on the map that requires a party of 8 with some nasty mechanics. Maybe the position could have been random so people would have to actually hunt for it.
NM don't work well in XIV for a plethora of reasons.
