You can be upset if you want, but software releases being a few days later than estimated isn't exactly unheard of, and shouldn't really cause any of us a major inconvenience. Do we really need to be at the Square-enix HQ with torches and pickforks over this?? Even if the power out is not the full reason for the delays I doubt the team are twiddling their thumbs.

I'm not saying we should just worship everything the game developers say and do. We are paying customers and we should voice our concerns / dissatisfaction, but we should also show some understanding and appreciation where due.

Annual Power downs are not unusual and not just a JP thing, you'll find that this happens in a lot of places. Certainly in the UK buildings have to be powered down for maintenance at least once a year to maintain services that run 24/7 and to test backup power generators/UPS systems to ensure they will continue to work if there ever was an unintentional power outage.

It's all tied in with business continuity and risk management, but most people don't know it happens because it usually gets done on weekends or times least disruptive to a business - in the case of an MMO there is no time during the day where it will go unnoticed.

I believe its just that there is a growing aspect of our society that has become very much Cynical. Look it up in the dictionary(or wiki kids) you might be surprised to find that definition fits you. Unfortunately it fits me too, but somehow it doesn't effect anything in my perception of what SE is doing. Maybe I'm too much of a fan boy for it to.

More OT, based on all the "holy crap, they are fixing that?" fixes that are going into 2.28, I'm more then happy to wait. Maybe it will mean 1 or 2 additional QoL fixes. This sub-patch so far is easily going to beat any others before it. I could go as far as saying it is better then some of the main patches, as far as getting QoL things resolved. I'm very excited about this patch.

We have a week long period where things like this are tested, configured etc just after Christmas. Because we close for Christmas and New Year (Bank holidays), we just figure it's easier to shut down for the whole period from Christmas Day until the start of week after New Year's Day (eg, this year we'll close from 25th Dec until the 5th January).

It's a lot more common than people might think and like you say, it tends to happen at times where less people will be affected by it so they rarely even notice that it actually happens.

The patch will come when it does. A few days extra is not going to cause any issues for people. If it does, I'd be asking other kinds of questions.

You can be upset if you want, I personally just don't see the point..

Would you rather they have had rushed the patch without taking the necessary time to fix bugs, etc? Pretty sure if that had happened, there would be more threads on here complaining about it then there are threads complaining about the patch not getting here on time.

Thats not how nuclear power works... its not some crazy omg its going to explode any minute. There is way more to what happened with the fukushima incident then the fear that media tells you. Last year NRC came out with a review of the event. But beyond that Nuclear Power is still far safer than any other power source available. The radiation from Fukushima is less then what you get from just being on an international air flight. (I know people call credibility checks, and you can believe me or not, but I live in Japan, and I use to work on nuclear power for 6 years. Including sitting right on top of a reactor control rod, not scared of anything it is perfectly safe)

edit: let me rephrase... They are perfectly safe as long there is competent workers and maintenance personnel, as well as managers that are not shady government regulation revolving door jerks that led to much oversight prior to 3/11

Well, they delayed it twice now, yet people seem quite satisfied still. What I'm asking when is it too much? What if they delay it again? Or decide they want to combine 2.3 and 2.28? Is that still ok? What about those of who pay, yet have nothing worth doing? I mean if I had known it would be out next week instead of on time, I wouldn't have paid for last month. Now I'm out $15 and nothing to show for it. Besides that I have to start studying for some exams next week, I'm not gonna have time to try out the content till maybe two weeks after.

So you're saying you did absolutely NOTHING in game this entire month? No soldiery capping, raiding, etc?

Honestly, they really don't even have to release minor patches outside of the big ones, so I, for one, am thankful for what we get. The extra week or whatever really doesn't make that much of a difference, there are tons of other things that I can do to pre-occupy myself, such as work, life, any other video game, etc.

I understand their concerns about the issues that could happen from releasing the patch.. but it does get ridiculous. Constantly moving it. I personally think they are rushing Novus. Hold out on that part til 2.3, all those hardcore players will have to make due with the animus, ore tidal levi weapons or high allagan til then. Add the small parts like Fantasia, echo, pvp. etc. in the smaller patch. But that is my opinion.

How is this delayed twice?

Once a year Japan suffers blackouts for 2 days so their entire power grid can be diverted to their mutant research department.

1. go get a job.
2. go out with friends.
3. get out ur room and shower.

Few things to fill up the time.

It's not an issue of them not having a generator or a back up power source. They have to take the building off the grid so that they can do maintenance.

I understand that. Didn't they know about that the power outage happens once year ?

If getting delay a few days once a while upset you that much, my suggestion for you is to quit the game.

I can safely guarantee you that it will happen again, and again, and it is here just to annoy you and no other reason.

Deal with it.

My office here in California does a yearly power outage. Most large office buildings do. It's nothing unusual.

Only thing I can think of is hardcore generator testing. But where I work they just start the generator once a week to make sure it turns over in the timeframe it should. We don't take all the power down in the building for it.

This is something that has been in effect around this time of year through the summer related to lack of power production capacity. This capacity issue is related to earthquake a couple of years ago that took down a good chunk of the capacity the region. As there are concerns of continuing to rely on nuclear there is a need to build other power sources. This is something that will take time and will continue to cause these summer rolling blackouts, or area blackouts.

This is something that could take a decade (be nice if it is less) to resolve.
