I'm sorry, but when did i say that I would say to them that their skills are on story mode level? i said that's what their gameplay would tell me. Not the same. You are assuming/reading what you want to see instead of what is actually written. Them showing me their skills are story-mode does not equate to me saying that to them versus just giving them tips on getting better after an observation. Come on now. Stop being so sensitive.

I'm implying that a smn who doesnt place a pet or use shadow flare on titan extreme has story-mode skills.As in one can easily beat story mode,especially today, w/o being anywhere close to being skilled enough for extremes or doing those two things, which should be obvious to see. Knowing how to play FFXIV enough to beat story mode doesnt equal knowing how play a job effectively to beat the hardest content or, obviously what seems to be a major roadblock to many, titan extreme, which you seem to imply. Now if some look up rotations to maximize output once they reach 50 and practice that throughout their progression into extremes then great.

However, it's obvious that smn did not, so they had story-mode skills, as in they displayed skills of what one would expect of someone who just reached 50 and beat the story. As they take advice, and put it into practice, that skill will improve. That FC leader should've thanked the OP for pointing out those glaring flaws, yes they are glaring, and making the smn a little better, as the smn did himself. OP's suggestion to the smn may encourage him to look up more tips on dps and reach a high level, which is good.

I stand by what i originally said though (not what people want to put in my mouth). If you've only beaten story-mode then you have story-mode skills. if you're on titan ex and you're doing things that hamper your dps that should've been corrected on hard-modes, then you still have relatively low skills/story-mode skills. Seeing that someone has low skills at a point in time doesn't mean i wont give tips to get better, or that i will do it in a condescending way. And I'm sorry but if someone told me they have skills b/c they beat story mode....then yes....i would think those skills are irrelevant.

The way OP worded it doesn't sound like s/he was trying to tell him/her off. They were merely giving advice. I've had situations myself where I would tell someone, "Oh, you are doing X. Perhaps you should do Y. It will help a lot more." Reactions vary, but the listeners (for the most part) improve while the players who don't want to listen and take it as an insult most likely won't.

I'm willing to help if people are willing to listen.

Based on what's typed in OP it just looks like you're trying to help the person, I don't see any elitism in it at all.

People who say "it's just a game" when you're obviously trying to help someone improve are people who are not willing to take criticism to improve themselves even. They just fly by the seat of their pants and hope that whatever they're doing is good enough to just get by while other people inevitably have to take up their slack.

Call it an elitist comment or whatever, but that's just the way I see it. Yes, at the end of the day it's a game, but I would think people who are serious about the harder content would want to improve themselves if they could.

Yes. People who seek to improve, learn & offer advice are elitists.

Elitist is the opposite of casual. ei, that Summoner that only uses ruin/ruinII, or the Scholar that ONLY autofollows on crawls & never uses abilities.

Giving advice nicely is not elitist. Now, if you told them to "use SHadowflare newb!!!", then I could see their argument.

Some people don't tend to take advice well, but it's all in HOW you give it.

Now, I'll admit some folks are quick to shout elitist (but that's internet nature to call something "x-ist" as fast as possible). The fact that the FC member thanked you for the advice is a sign they took it well, and you must have done something right :). Maybe ask them if their FC leader has a beef, and see if they're willing to pry into it for ya a little. Now, I'm guessing the rotation argument made the leader mad, so eh?

I see people still call others "elitist" on a whim just to counter any criticism directed their way.

Sadly anyone who offers advice, even in a condescending tone, is not elitist by definition.

True elitist people only respect others in their club, hence elite/exclusive, they generally don't want others to even be considered welcome. True elitists will never say a word and just remove people.

No I believe that is trolling. Elitist is more about "forcing your views on others". Which I guess one could claim giving suggestions fall under, but most wouldn't go that far.

Ok >_< Looks like I did jump the gun there... Soz Kuro, I have nothing against players sharing tips politely. I did the same today.

I have to remind everyone that this is a color lens approach. Everything always looks flowery when it's only explain in their own words. (it's never how it "exactly happened")

Did everything happen exactly like that? Was colorful words used, action displayed, and generally, this is a feel good post more then a question.

Drama is a drama. Grow thicker skin, and move on.

That's the true form of elitism. If you can't grow a thicker skin, and make posts to the world to "justified", then you're already half way to elitism.
