As someone with all 50 DoH, I concur with the OP. It is all true. The only point in leveling crafting is being able to craft more crafting. You can make good gil, but gil is equally pointless and really only used to buy materia and items for more crafting. If you say screw it to crafting, you will probably have the exact same quality of life if you have 50,000 gil or 50,000,000 gil. It is nice that they added materia to the Novus to make it relevant for non-crafters, but odds are that if you are a non-crafter, you weren't going to put up with the atma bullhonky anyway and are perfectly happy with your gerolt/ex/allag weapons.
Of course raiding isn't much better. You farm raids to get loot that lets you farm raids. It is all pointless in the long run... but at least you are being pointless with a group instead of groping a loom in a dark corner of Uldah like a creeper.

That loom's just stringing you along anyway.

QQ posts ftw. Simple suggestion: You don't like crafting, then don't craft :)
I personally know that I enjoy crafting and YES, i know i'm doing it for the sake of crafting. I'll run dungeons as much as the next guy, but I take a bit of pride in a full hq gear set I made myself. Don't get me wrong, it's not up to par with the blue ilvl 90 + drops you can get, but thems the lumps. I'll get that gear too at some point.
Play the game where you enjoy it, and let others have their peace. =]
