I don't like how Ishgard looks. That bridge is a super long run. I would prefer they redo the castle in a different fashion. Perhaps make it look like an actual kingdom instead of a single castle on top a mountain. How is it possible to build it there in the first place @_@??
What's funny to me is that this whole idea came about way back before we knew if XIV would succeed or not, and now I feel like I need to re-work the entire angle of it due to the announcement of 2.0. Here I am saying we should celebrate XIV's progress with a nod to the announcement that got us excited for it while they're planning to celebrate XIV's progress by giving it a dedicated custom engine, built from scratch world map, and monumental calamity subplot.
At this point I ALMOST feel silly saying, "But can we still have that little garden and colored brick area full of wrought iron, somewhere?" I mean, the WHOLE FREAKING GAME is going to be "something that never would have been there if we didn't turn XIV around" Lmfao.
But then I look at the images again and I remember that initial excitement and how, even today, people look back on it with the idea of "But where did that go?" and I don't feel so bad.

Wrought. Iron. Everything.
The view through the windows looks a little different than the outside, but the Maps Yoshida-san showed for 2.0 showed a "Revitalized Isghard" that looked like it'd taken some decent hits. I really hope we don't have to run that bridge and, like Jeuno, you just kind of "Gate In" from the start of it and arrive in town.... or at least let chocobos run it.
Given that they're switching to a zone-lines approach instead of a seamless world approach, we probably won't have to deal with any huge ass bridges. :D
(Although, I've been looking forward to climbing that bridge since I did a death march from Thanalan to Ishgard through Mor Dhona (!) at level 1 (!!) in beta with a few friends. Just, like, turning around on it halfway up the bridge and going 'haha, I'm finally here'.)
I would /love/ a lore library in XIV, it'd definitely appeal to players like me. :D (Especially because anyone -else- hanging out there would be a lore nerd! It'd be a cool place to chat, I think.) I mean, when you think about it, every in-game location will wind up being a nod to the fact that the game rebooted and survived, we'll see familiar landmarks warped by the catastrophe, and so on. At the same time, I think a sort of subtle ingame nod like this would be lots of fun :D
If I were to entertain this idea, I'd just add an inconspicuous room somewhere with seemingly unimportant paitntings hanging from the walls, just make the paintings be from the different areas that are going to disappear after 2.0.
Or a statue of Tanaka.
Yeah, that's the same sentiment I've been finding myself entertaining. SE is delivering more than I could have dreamed of to set the footprints of those who walked Eorzea that Was in stone; to use it as a motivation now seems silly. However, my motivation remains for that latter part - a little recognition that we brought it all full circle.
It's strengthened my desire to see it take elements from the Project Rapture announcement tech-demo even further, because that particular element, the very first look into the next Final Fantasy Online, within 2.0 would really drive home that feeling that we've finally managed to bring it all full circle and the true adventure begins now.
I'm pretty partial to the "inconspicuous area seemingly added solely for aesthetic appeal" approach to this idea, myself. The Statue of Tanaka quip made me lol though, I'm imagining the tech-demo room, but without the counter in the back and a large, stone man in the center like;
In all seriousness, however, I'm all for the inconspicuous area that seems like it doesn't have much going on - as if there's a mystery to why it's even there or why it's important. Of the ideas I have listed up front, it's one of the top few imo.
Minor Update: Gave the OP a little TLC by removing all of the references to wanting "something that otherwise would have never been there" since 2.0 has revealed the whole freaking map will do that. Instead, I've decided to focus more on the aspect that a nod to the tech demo would be a celebration of bringing everything full circle; remembering the past is important. If 2.0 succeeds, I think it'd be a tasteful nod to respecting the roots of XIV; even if we'd like to forget how badly things started off - great things came from it.
