Frustration regarding Patch 2.2

Don't let the door hit you on the way out, I'm sure you'll enjoy TSO or Wildstar, until of course it becomes too hard and you aren't instantly rewarded for something.

You shouldn't be able to blow through all the content in a day, you shouldn't be able to obtain the best items in a day, a week, heck even a month. People getting complete atma upgrades the first day the patch out is a bit disappointing to me. The fact that you think having to put any hard work into the game is a "grind" is actually rather comical to me.

The fact you think grinding some boring, repetitive task a chimp could replicate as "Hard work" is beyond comical to me.

It heartily saddens me that software companies have managed to convince the mouth-breathing masses that their laziness in releasing tiny amounts of content at a glacial pace is okay as long as it's wrapped up in some tedious grind restricted by daily/weekly lockouts.

Did everyone forget that the old Philosophy Tome materials drop from the new dungeons? And they seem to all drop 8 at a time. There's no reason anybody should be spending close to 800,000 seals on these things. Just wait until the prices for these things bottom out on the Market Board.

Also, non-crafters have seals...hmmm. I wonder if there is a way...for them to use those seals...to sell items...to crafters. Welp, we'll never know!

Also: Shush. I bet 90% of the stuff you are complaining about will be solved and short-cutted by people with more fortitude and work ethic than you. Don't worry, the devs might have intended for you to have to work for this stuff, but the same people that figured out how to do stuff the easy way before will be able to teach you how to short-cut it again.

In addition: There is A LOT of stuff that was pretty freakin' instant to get. I fully glamoured my PLD in like, 4 minutes with my 50 ARM and my FC mates 50 BSM. I did all 3 HMs after the lolQuests to get them. The stuff I want really bad (tank mount, Coil9, etc) is going to take work, just the the stuff you really want (Crafting end-game) is going to require you to get to the end-game of crafting to be able to obtain it.

This patch was vertical progression, you need to ladder your skills and equipment up to obtain it. Instead of killing demons, you need to knit socks.

This is like complaining that there's 9 new armor sets for DoW and DoM and complaining it'll take forever to get them all.

Seems to really get under your skin though as you feel the need to respond to it. It's funny to me to see people outraged over this.

Oh no, you have to grind to get a reward? You mean you enjoyed logging in on monday and then not logging back in for the rest of the week?
Oh no, you can't gather the best new materials in your un-melded gathering af?
Oh no, you can't get the master recipe book without crafting items for it?

All the people who have a hard time with the "grind" they placed into the game are the ones who will mmo hop anyways, once the content gets too hard for them it's off to easy mode in another game. Yes I agree grinds don't take any real skill, but you know what grinding away toward something keeps people logging in. Those who don't like it won't be logging in, and then SE will have to ask themselves if they want to retain the current player base, or if they want to add here's a relic in a day type of content they did to cater to casuals.

It's nice to have to set goals, and carry out objectives. Not everyone is going to be geared to the teeth by welfare handouts, not everyone will be fully geared in a day, a week, a month, six months. I like that. Too bad you don't because well it seems like the update is live, and that's the way they directed the current patch content. So yeah, maybe you will enjoy TESO or Wildstar while you wait for a new patch hoping for easy modes again. :)

I for one am really enjoying the game and look forward to this patch's content. Only bummer for me is medium sized houses only get two garden plots.

Or people can loosen their coin purse and spend some gil... we are crafters after all and the rich elite ....

What annoyed me about the patch was we were promised bigger inventory and armour chest (im gonna find the post from after 2.1 where its mentioned just to make sure) and instead we get to buy (with real money) an extra retainer - thats the only let down for me so far to be honest.

I just spent 2 dollars on an extra retainer and freeing up all that inventory space was amazing. Pretty much the same thing they did in final fantasy 11 when we paid one dollar per alt so we could mule gear over to them. Sorry you're bummed on it, but that 2 dollars fixed my inventory issues, and that is fine by me.

i think a lot of you simply want to place artificial wall like grind or RNG (zodiac). this is not challenge, this is not a feeling of accomplishement... but a feeling i must log in the game for work.
it's sad that SE did follow the demand of a part of the community that see the game more than a work than a game. but well i will still play the game, not work the game.

at all the one that say that it great and that all must ask hard work...i will say this, you maybe need to check the definition of a game and think a bit if you are still "playing" the game.

But seriously, there is a silver lining. The idea of grinding about 2400 low level fates solved my problem of finding time for both games.

I do think the price (essentially at least 45 of whatever ex-philo item) for the mastery books is a bit much.. but everything else you listed I'm actually fine with. The only one true thing that bugs me this patch is that I seem to be back to FATE grinding a lot just to get over a hurdle so I can get to what I would consider the "fun" grind.

Maybe I should, but then again, I am paying to log in to play something I enjoy, you are paying to log in to play something you don't enjoy. Who seems like the fool in that situation?

I've been looking for content like this, I am happy. A shame you are going to continue to pay to play when you are not. I can't wait to down Leviathan, get my new weapon while working on upgrading my relic while trying new turns of coil.

That implies ESO is good. Played BETA..it isnt..biggest letdown since SWTOR. Wildstar was ok but it feels like they are rushing it out the door to.

This is where I'm at too. I'm not surprised though. It was only a matter of time before they added long-term goals to all classes. But I was still secretly hoping this was the game where I could keep my account active and use it as filler with short-term accomplishments. It certainly worked out that way (to my pleasure) for the first six months.

I'm still going to try out the patch just to see if the comments in here are all- encompassing, but if all the new stuff turns out to be weeks of work for one upgrade . . . yeah . . . not anymore. Time and dedication are just better spent on other things. The days where I was willing to do that for an MMO are long gone.

^ but at that point why play an MMO (RPG) there are plenty of other titles now a days that can fill the short term need. Diablo 3, Borderlands, League of legends, Dota, Loadout, Team Fortress, etc.

I mean if you are a fan of mmos you would be deluding yourself to think they are only about short term goals and quick fixes.

They're not walls. They're hurdles and challenges and CONTENT for the player to overcome. That's what makes you a good PLAYER and that's what makes these items more VALUABLE. They learned because of the Relic quest being too easy. everyone has a relic. Suddenly feels less valuable doesn't it? You're from 1.0. When you'd see someone with a relic before you had one, it was a sight. You'd check it out...say wow, I can't wait to get mine. 2.0, You get relics in a day. I welcome the time consuming quests. We're JUST getting started too! So don't cry too hard.

2.1...First time was not an accident. We were told the housing was going to be expensive. I expected these prices. You think these are bad? Go check out Aion's housing prices. That was a few years ago when I checked, so who knows what they are now.

2.2 was not a coincidence, you're just a baby because you want an "instant gratification button." A trend I'm starting to see more and more in "gamers" these days...and I do not like it.

2.3 Sorry to say will probably frustrate you further, especially if you put no effort into 2.2. No it will not mark a trend, it'll be the mark of a good MMO.

It's only going to get more complex as time goes on. I assure you. I run a small FC. We wanted a medium size house. We couldn't make the money in time for the plot we wanted. We went with a small house. And we're happy with it. Didn't see any of us on here complaining and crying and whining and calling the wambulance because we couldn't afford the medium size house.

So shape up, stop whining like a baby, and play the game. The amount of time you took to type your entire OP you could have already started your new relic quest and unlocked the 3 new dungeons.

Well, the upshot of all this is that all the annoying threads complaining about FFXIV being a "Monday only game" and that there's "no content left" seem to have disappeared from the front page of the General Discussion forum...

I guess we'll need to wait two or three weeks for those to come back. :rolleyes:

that the best of it actually, because in a couple of week this thread will come back, because even with this idiotic grind, people with a lot of time of play will simply crush this. i have already seen a couple of people with the atma weapon. less than 2 after the patch. indeed it's only the first part of the zodiac weapon. but i really think that add artificial wall (and they are wall) that are grind (because grind was never challenging) for please this people that have a huge time of play it's stupid. because whatever you do, they will always find a way to crush it.

i want to say this, add grind to the game for stuff like the zodiac weapon. well why not, but for stuff like the recipe for new ilevel 90 crafted stuff or some item is stupid. it's not fun, it's not rewarding in anyway since most of the crafted equipement will not be used. it's easier to get your myth for equip yourself than get the recipe for this stuff and after succefully craft it in HQ and pentameld it behind. if the crafting gears was close of the end game gear why not... but there it's not the case. even with pentameld it will stay far far less good than ilevel 100 gears... and BC2 give ilevel 110 gears.

What grind? Walking over to the MB and buying the items needed for the quest is not a grind.

I'm sure that 3 months from now prices will be affordable to everyone.

Ah I see, mindlessly grinding fates is what makes you a good player. Thanks for the clarification. I thought killing chimera, hydra and all three HM primals would make me a better player but I was wrong. Fate grinding will make us better players!

Thank you SE for making getting a relic "Harder" because you know it takes quite a bit of skill to dot up a few fate mobs then go take a dump while you wait for it to end.

112.500 seals = ~24 hours of upper la noscea fate farming, probably a lot less in cohertas. Yes, you ll farm seals and stuff as a guild too now ;)

Other than that well, I don't think that time sink = meaningfull challenge.

At least new turns in Coils are here to fill that part, but for the rest, rofl.

THIS^^.... As a crafter, the lack of purpose is the main issue. I would happily grind for seals, potash, hard sap, etc. if there was a reason. Why go through the grind if there is no market what you can craft with the best gear.

As a DoM and DoW, you grind for the best gear in order to beat the hardest content. If then after beating the hardest content, I have fun helping others. But what do I do with the best crafting gear? .... this is my disappointment. Crafting should be involved in the end-game. I disagree with others who say is shouldn't.

Why do people want to beat everything in the first 5 hours of the new patch?

To an extent, the OP has some valid points.

The issue I've had with the past couple of content updates is that they've heavily favoured the extremely wealthy. Want to participate in housing? Better be in a wealthy FC. Want to level multiple crafts? Have fun buying enough of the crafting materials which are now the barrier to entry, since Philosophy tomestones aren't around anymore. They weren't even nice enough to let us purchase the items with Mythology, which frankly I find rather annoying; there is no efficient way to "target" materials like Potash anymore except through the AH. Considering you would need a grand total of 112,500 GC Seals in order to accumulate the minimum amount necessary to access a Mastery book for a single craft, I'm not rating this as being particularly efficient.

The fun doesn't end there, however. Want to go after the new Gathering stuff? Have fun stacking materia on your gear, and good luck with the AH prices. To be fair, they did improve spiritbond rates, but the entire materia system is a giant RNG that is programmed to destroy your gil. Exceedingly wealthy players? No problem. Everyone else? It's a lot of work.

I have absolutely no issue with long-term goals; it's how the crafting and gathering goals are set up that's bothering me. If you look at Zodiac weaponry, that makes all the sense in the world - wealthy player, poor player, it all depends on the amount of time you're willing to invest, mod some luck with the RNG. That's how to do a long-term challenge. Crafting and gathering jobs have absolutely no equivalent; instead, we're effectively being told that unless you're wealthy, you have an exceedingly high barrier of entry. This was a lazy way to keep materia relevant for Gathering, and Philosophy items relevant for the markets. Nothing more, and nothing less.

What about the ungodly lag in instances?
Surely that is more of an issue than content taking a little longer to get. lol
