Prediction: August
Based on the following dev post, posted today on french forums:

Je comprends que beaucoup d’entre vous sont assez impatients et voudraient obtenir une date ferme concernant la sortie du patch 1.18. Malheureusement, à l’heure actuelle il est encore impossible de communiquer une date précise.
Je peux uniquement vous confirmer que si tout se passe bien, la mise à jour 1.18 arrivera ce mois-ci.
I still cannot give you a specific date for 1.18. I can only confirm that IF everything goes well, it will be launched this month.
Oh dear...
I WOULD HOPE NO !
Were any of you around at the start of this game? This games first big patch(changed sp gains, added inventory, etc) came out on Thanksgiving day. November 25th. Not trying to make a big deal out of it since I dont think it matters, but a couple people have already posted they would never release on a major holiday when i already posted yesterday that they already did. *wooh out of breath end rant*
Happy independence day to my fellow americans.
i have a feeling it will be at the end of the month.
I dont care when will they patch it as long the patch is good to go, they can release it anytime they want!! ARghhhh
too bad the "overhaul" just takes the time of an overhaul but seems like a cheap fix to me. The lack in creativity is huge among SE these days. No wonder they are in this current state as a company now. Slow, uncreative, way too ignorant.
But they keep on patching the dead horse MW... (a server merge with MW would be fun to watch lol...)
i hope its not soon, mainly because of the tiny amount of things they showed us on the loadstone...battle reform, 2 raids and leves turned into solo content...thats about it. They tend to show a good chunk of what the patch is (at least the major stuff) so if its soon, then we are getting very little, nothing big enough to get anyone back playing it...thats for sure.
sooner the better for me. nothing to do right now.
I realy hope its this week. I think with just auto-attack i could wait a long time for 1.19 and so on.
Ive hated the current system since beta.
I may be one of the few that actually likes the current battle system ... I know I've seen a few posters that share my opinion. It's just sad that it wasn't perfected. Because people rather use what they're used to (auto-attack), the dev team just decided to scrap it because no one was optimistic of the system getting better. That's how I feel anyway. Maybe implementing an auto-attack toggle while keeping the stamina bar. So the toggle will continuously spam your regular attack until you execute another command. I think that would've been a better solution than having to rework the whole mechanics. But auto-attack is on its way so no use praying for it now ^.^;
SE has alot riding on this patch. For many players this patch is the deciding factor on whether they stay or go. They're probably quadruple checking everything so 18a,b, and c aren't even necessary (bug fixes) and they can just hop to 1.19 next month.
This is what the long development time does to the players. We all want this patch to be stock-full of content because of the amount of time it's been in the works.
They've already hyped this patch more than anything so far but based on their info I think we can expect a couple of company related quests like in the first company quest- patch and then wait another 2 months for the next bits to trickle in.
A smart player would just put XIV on hold until patch 1.3 but I happen to be on my vacation and just can't help checking out how this thing is going to turn out.
I try too keep my expectations low but they've been working on this patch forever. If it really is just a battle system tweak (I wouldn't call automating one step a complete overhaul btw) and few dungeons I know I'll be a bit disappointed because I keep hoping for them to surprise me somehow. Given their track record of much hype for nothing I'd say a wise player would know better by know than to expect them to walk the walk.
Yeah I agree with what you're saying about putting the game on hold because SE hasn't learned that it's important to keep people held over with at least SOMETHING new to explore with.
This patch does the opposite of what is wise to keep a community of players biting: they are producing a rather insignificant bunch of updates and taking rediculously long to simply do so. Keeping this in mind and the mega multiplayer games coming out like Old Republic and Gears of War 3, it seems this game could be in danger of going out with a wimper.
Too many things are coming out in the next month or two that will completely over shadow the shadow on top of FF14 already. Becoming a bit tiresome to be a FF14 player. Going through the stages of grief.
First is sadness, next is anger, and acceptance is usually the last one. Guess which one I'm at?
I guess I'm at anger over the latest news of this patch being delayed yet again.
I don't care how polished the AA is (seriously how can something this basic be so hard to implement?!) delaying the patch is a massive sign of disrespect towards the players.
And YES we ARE paying customers. All of us thought there would be a game to play inside when we handed our money to SE for the copy.
Fans extend their patience by staying for a few more months and SE pays us back by ******* on us yet again. It's a never-ending cycle it seems.
And yet here you are...waiting to be **** on again apparantly?
Unlike some people I don't pretend to know anything about game design or what the situation for the dev team currently is. What I am is able to say I am willing to wait to see what happens to the game. I may get frustrated from time to time from the long patch times, but if SE pushes me too far I can and will walk away from this game forever.
Others don't seem to have that option and instead opt to rage about issues outside their own control. If SE is testing you so much why don't you at least put the game down and just wait for the patch before playing again. If you just plain think SE is "Shitting on us" then why don't you tell them to bugger off while you stop playing the game.
Vote with your wallet and show them when the subscriptions turn back on that your not there, it will send your message home 1000x clearer than raging on the internets.
*edit*
also saying that SE has 0 respect for the people playing this game has to be the most blind and ignorant thing I have ever heard on these forums.
I'm not white knighting for them but really? What is Yoshida sitting on a cruise boat somehwere reading the forums for lulz? the producer and mutliple staff have appolagized on many occasions and made it very clear they are working extremly hard to get this ship into shape.
They can't post a damn timeline becuase they themselves have no god damn clue how long some of these things will take to do....ugh I'll stop talking now it's going to fall on deaf ears anyhow.
No, this is what not having a real "Under Developement" section does. If they actually consolidated wtf was going to be in the next patch into one little lodestone page, we wouldn't engage in half as much guesswork. Instead they spread the info out over hell's half acres. . .
^ they seem to still treat the updates like ...well updates (to a working game). When you see sprinkles of info for FFXI, its totally fine, because the game is working great and there is already plenty to do. When your game is a broken mess that needs fixing, you should treat the changes accordingly. Tell us exactly what you plan to get done for the patch right away so no one is hyping crap for nothing and if something goes wrong or can't be finished (they know well before hand when they cant get something done in time) TELL US.
really, its not SE's fault people overhype and speculate to end up being disappointed.
if they misinformed us by giving us the wrong info or bad info, like not implementing something that was suppose to be implemented, then you can blame SE.
i personally dont care how much information they release on the patch. i'd rather experience the patch for myself then let SE tell us everything that is in the patch
I agree, you're right about that.
Now people seem to think 1.18 is the holy grail of patches and it seems there's not any content besides the dungeons being shipped with it. I'm not saying 2 dungeons aren't good news they're just nowhere near enough. Pushing back the release of 1.18 also pushes back all the future content updates that follow it in the already too distant future.
i disagree, i would say they are overextending themselves but i never got the impression that they are making the patch out to be something its not. like a game saving patch thats going to change everyones mind about the game and make them want to come back and play
i feel like SE is more looking forward to the patch then saying OMG this patch is going to be WIN!!
Just a side note. It might not seem a lot of work for most of you to add auto-attack to the battle system but it does affect pretty much all your abilities. They need to completely rebalance your abilities with proper cooldowns because they are removing the stamina bar, so that each class and action is well balance when compared to one another. It's more than a "simple" band-aid.
Also, they are reworking the battle UI (bars and icons), new animations for abilities and spells (though I think some more will come in further patches), re-designing classes to make them more unique, adjusting enmity algorithm.
So yeah, they are taking a long time doing it, but it's not just "adding" auto-attack and that's it. I'd rather they take longer than release it full of bugs and glitches.
SE doesn't owe you anything, you paid the game, you have been disappointed because it sucked, but that happens when you buy other games as well, sometime they suck and you wish you never bought them, but guess what? that's life, you su** it up and move on.
You are not paying monthly fees to be playing this game so they do not owe you anything. If anything, you owe it to be thankful to them to let you play instead of shuting the servers down while they fix stuff, which would have probably been a better options and would have made things move faster.
Also, they are still in the delays they said they would take, so stop crying and just wait until it's released.
It's not a delay exactly. They said it would be mid-June at the earliest for 1.18, now they're saying that it's more like early/mid July.
Also, there's a ton of stuff other than auto-attack, and much more than that planned by the end of September (though time is running out to get through that huge list by September's End....)
More than 1.18 I'm excited to see how the game fares when 1.18, 1.19, and 1.20, the 3 "Summer Patches," are done. And I'd especially like to see what kind of things they will work on in 1.21.
I'm extremly interested to see how this game grows, it's in a unique situation no other MMO would have. They have a chance at a relaunch no matter how it turns out it will be interesting to watch and learn from.
I'm too lazy to read this thread....but the OP is full of all sorts of assumptions and mis-statements that it renders the rest of the thread without meaning.....
SE PATCH NOW please :)
We need pie!!!
At this point, your out of your mind if you think they will get all of what he said in by Sept. Its early july and the 1st of 3 is still up in the air. What they have left to do might not be as big, but still heafty....and for all we know they are barely into those yet.
Tutorials, job system + quests, grand companys, Ui revisons, materia system, frontier hubs, beast tribes, ifrit fight... among a buttload of revisons.......yah it aint happening in the next 2 months, more like 5 months at the least.
