Dancer was amazing in XI. Bring it back.
psst..Thief first. :P
Well, SE painted themselves into a corner a bit by giving Daggers to Gladiator. Now, any job that classically uses Daggers (like THF) is going to have to have GLD as a base class, or else SE will need to provide some explanation as to why GLD can use THESE daggers but not THOSE daggers, and why THF/DNC/Whatever can use THOSE daggers but not THESE daggers.
It's a bit awkward.
SE could take an alternative route, since Dancers appear infrequently enough in FF lore that they aren't as tied to daggers as THFs are. They could be a hand-to-hand combatant based on PGL, or possibly give them an entirely new base class with a new weapon type (like whips).
The important thing to note is ''Bronze dagger > Main Hand › Gladiator's Arm'' just like both a thm and a cnj can equip a short staff and a long cane, as long as it says 'CNJ's ARM' it could be a Moogle pom and still turn you into a CNJ.
I look very, very forward to seeing DNC in XIV. I hope we get some interesting support skills like Haste or Drain or Refresh, perhaps they will act the same was as BRDs songs.
From personal experience in the job and also community and endgame.
- Dancer as a main role was a great solo class with its abilities.
- Party support in small groups (2-4) worked very well in things like XP parties and normal grind content.
It's weakness in XI was Endgame. As a subjob it provided more in endgame than the main job did. It's DPS/Support were just too little for the content compared to other jobs. You need to take into consideration the main content after DNC was released was Abyssea beyond WotG.
Only if it had a defined role across content like other jobs in XIV bring. Otherwise it will just be something to lvl for cross-class abilities. Which if they did bring it to XIV, then it should be a class, rather than a job.
Erm..my DNC worked perfectly end-game..in all areas, even Delve. If by weakness in end-game you meant at 75 cap when it initially released and didn't even have it's Mythic weapon/skill, I agree since that's what it sounded like you meant when you stated the support job brought more. Heck, Dancer was actually one of the perfect roles for Delve considering how alliances split off to tackle it lol. So while true it excelled low man, like any job in XI, those horrible at it makes it seem useless in any regard.
For example Blue Mage was HORRIBLE end-game and almost no one wanted it...why? Because of all the Bludgeon only Blue Mages end-game. Now Blue Mage is everywhere lol. So in all reality, the only thing DNC would need for this game is a few more offensive skills, Steps were nice but still needed a bit more.
I really hope they put DNC in XIV, it was my favorite job alongside Red Mage (which I really hope gets in the game as well).
I hope to see it as the job for a dual knife/dagger class (thief maybe?). Can do a dual job for the class like arcanist has, make it thief -> ninja (as pure DPS) and dancer. Dancer would be either like a frontline healer with curing waltz and whatnot, or a DPS/support much like Bard is in XIV already. They have a few dancer templates to work off of after all, my preferred is XI's of course. I wouldn't mind it being like FFT's dancer, dances focus on debuffs over everything else. Can have the dances burn MP while they're up, lower dps by 20% like bard songs, and apply a debuff to the enemies (and maybe one of them could be drain samba, so everyone hitting the mob recovers a proportional amount of HP, like in XI :D ).
I'll be very happy if either DNC or RDM gets in the game, and ecstatic if both make it in =3
I loved dancer it was my favorite job in XI
I would play dancer only on two conditions:
1: it is a physical healer
2: and SE fixes the lack of butts in this game so I can heal my party with magic twerking skills
I keep on seeing these "my favorite job in XI" posts. The thing is that I highly doubt that FFXIV's DNC will be anything like FFXI's DNC. I'm expecting it to be a dedicated Healer class that uses TP instead of MP. Maybe it will focus more on HP regen through the length of it's dances.
IIRC Minfillia is supposed to be a DNC and she uses a dagger when you're introduced to melding. I'm fairly certain DNC will be coming, just not the same jack of all trades from XI that everyone is expecting. Only a pur healer would make sense for XIV's armory system. Wouldn't be surprised if PUG was the secondary class with Mantra and Second Wind.
Simple solution - GLD gets daggers, thief/dancer/whatever gets knives. Semantics, yes, but in FFXI daggers and knives were different classes of weapon, dancers could use knives, but not daggers. Also, in XI Dancer had reasonable hand to hand skill as well, so I could see them going that route too. Either way, I'm still interested to see how they would implement the job in this game, and what it's role in a party would be.
Worst job? I hope that's sarcasm. This is from someone who played FFXI for about 5 years (on and off, would skip some months for various reasons. RDM and DNC mains). Dancer itself was a good job, dealt pretty good damage (moreso after native dual wield), had pretty good heals on fairly long cooldowns, and was more solo friendly than many other jobs. /DNC overall was mainly for solo play or eventually for dual wield if you didn't level NIN and didn't have utsusemi. NIN/DNC was mainly for solo or if the NIN wasn't tanking or didn't have a dedicated healer in the party. And BST/DNC was a far better option for BST (they generally went solo anyway if memory serves) unless the particular mob had a really hard hitting AoE since DNC heals are TP based.
At least from what I remember, you'd almost never see a SAM/DNC or WAR/DNC or something outside of people using /DNC for a specific fight or were doing something without a dedicated healer.
If anything broke FFXI it was Abyssea.
Maybe it was a server thing, and I'm certainly not saying nobody ever did /DNC on any jobs as a main subjob. I usually saw SAM/WAR (because WAR buffs made WS's insane I'm sure, coupled with self skillchains? haha) and THF/NIN =p I did see some people on those jobs /DNC running around Jeuno before Abyssea. After Aby and level cap increases came out I think /DNC became more of a mainstay for it's heals. Plus Samurai's TP skill was perfect for self heals, right? And you could put the steps and whatnot up.
And I don't remember, could you reverse flourish as /DNC? Was probably great for SAM.
That said, I usually ran around as RDM/DNC and DNC/WAR most of the time =p I went RDM/BLM (or WHM) only for 6 man parties or alliances of if I knew I'd need to warp a lot lol.
Kinda joke, kinda serious lol.
Yes Aby did kill FFXI
I only used sam/dnc during campaign lol or soloing (Soboro + /dnc = infinite heals). /war was definitely the way to go. You couldn't use reverse flourish when I played, but they may have changed that. I stopped playing shortly before the 99 cap and we didnt have access to it at that time. That would have been insane on SAM. Meditate - WS - Reverse Flourish - WS - WS. *goes home*
I doubt DNC will be anything like it's XI counterpart if they add it, but I would like to see where they take it.
Honestly from my personal experience, since DNC was released until I quit after SoA last year. Never saw a DNC in any High Endgame Alliance Boss fights, they just were not favored over Higher DPS jobs, full healing jobs or even support classes like BRD or COR. Examples: Arch Dynamis Lord, Odin's Chamber II, and Legion.
Could be completely different now as the game has changed since SoA.
XI is a great game, one of my favorite FFs. And by Abyssea "breaking" XI I mean they made it so easy to level it wasn't even funny. Some people could get 30-99 in a day on a job by leeching an aby exp alliance (assuming they already had the limit breaks done). Didn't break the story or anything =p
I can't really speak for the current game, I played a bit after Adoulin came out, but I never got the expansion. All I know is some of those ilvl 119 gears are godly in comparison to the level 99 stuff lol. I still assume NIN/DNC and RDM/NIN are still the best solos out there for the hard stuff, but so much stuff is solo or duo-able now from what I heard so I wouldn't doubt if WAR/DNC is amazing solo now, they do a ton of damage and are tanky (they were the original tank before PLD after all).
Yeah, you could Reverse Flourish at later levels, but since /DNC only gets one Finishing Move per Step, which means they need five Steps to reach maximum (pay 50 TP for 60 TP return) compared to Dancer's three Steps (pay 30 TP for 60 TP return). Additionally, /DNC misses out on the Merit traits and gear that DNC gets to boost Reverse Flourish (boosts that 60 TP return to 100 or more). So, Reverse Flourish is nerfed to the point where it's hardly worthwhile.
Refusing the Aby path is a lot easier now, but I took the Aby path from from 75 to 99 on my main jobs (DNC and RDM, didn't burn them up immediately though, I hated grinding aby). Didn't want to put in the effort of traditional EXPing to 99 for that lol. Took waaaaay too long.
Hope you don't get burned out grinding on those grounds tome pages (or potential Adoulin leveling mechanic I don't know about)! Haha. I ran my mule up to 60 on RDM after they put those grounds tomes =p No subjob! Took forever xD
Well... Hate to say it, but Records of Eminence is now a shortcut for capping skills, too. XD All my skills were already capped by the time this was introduced, but RoE points can be spent on "books" which, if used, give you a guaranteed 0.1 (sometimes more) skillup on the associated skill. The books are pretty cheap, too; it's not at all rare to see someone buy and use dozens of books in one sitting.
I would guess it would be a support class like BRD. After all DNC in XI had buffs, debuffs, healing and dps.
I would so go Dancer in all levels of content.
I would love having the Dancer class. Anything that's a knife user or fencer type would be awesome to have. The base class could lead into Thief and Dancer. They both need to know how to move, no?
Then let's get Astrologer with a story based in Coerthas pls. Ahhh. I can't wait until the inevitable next classes.
I wanna dance all night long!
Lol ...we already have dancer in FF14 ..... but we call them Pole dancer(lancer/dragoon) .... :P and people say male as dancer wont fit..i see alot of male pole dancer in ff14
if they made dancer in ffxiv, i would like it to have weapons like in tactics. knives and scarves. that would be so cool!
I want this job so bad. Making do as a monk and breakdancing on people's faces, but it's just not the same :(
Dancer is the class I'm anticipating the most. A melee healer that doesn't rely on MP as a resource sounds refreshing and fun. I wanted to play it in XI, but couldn't dedicate the time to leveling it (when I played it was rarely invited to parties). As for its weapon of choice, while I hope they choose something interesting, I foresee it being the healing job that branches off of whatever class that also creates the Thief job. Meaning it will most likely use daggers. I'd like to imagine it using chakrams, or perhaps fans like someone mentioned, though. I think that would be pretty cool.
[QUOTE=mouseno4;1924110]This particular job is seriously crazy, if the wiki that describes this is anything to go by.
But, if it was announced that it was planned to be added to the game at some point - would YOU want to play that class? Damn straight I would.
Male Dancer please. I want to play it on my Miqote.
