1.18 will hit in July, 1.19 will hit in August and at the latest be spread into Sept. They already confirmed that patches are gonna roll out in quick succession post 1.18 so I wouldn't worry about it. If we're lucky we'll get 1.20 in Sept. for the 1 year anniversary along with jobs.
I hope they add rank up content that isn't forced group based. penalizing people for not having to play for long periods isn't right. The system used for XI was fun but they should not bring back this type of system. Even if it's slower a way to get max rank should be made available to the solo and or casual player.
I know that there have been a lot of questions regarding ranking up, and how earning SP will be changing with the shift in guildleves that are coming in 1.18. So we posed your questions to Yoshida to try and get some more details about the future changes.

For soloing as well, we are planning to increase the amount of content that can be enjoyed constantly while placing emphasis on quests and leves, being mindful to maintain a balance between the two.
In the future, I would like to keep on enhancing the experience point gains through quest completion and exp. parties in public fields. This is because at the very least, I feel this is "normal." However, I think the work will continue up to about 1.20 until the game reaches a point where I think the balance of ranking up methods is normal.
I wanted to mention this in the letter, but from patch 1.18 we will begin reforms to remove the current feeling that players are being bound to specific play styles. Travel-wise anima is a bit hard to touch on right now (as I've referenced in another thread), but we will be making edits to the return costs and surplus system in the same fashion. Especially in regards to the feeling that a loss will be incurred if you don't do leves every day, we are looking into implementing a type of ticket system that will let you store them up, and heading into 1.19 we will be starting the specification edits of this. (I will talk about the details of this in the letter following the release of patch 1.18.)
I deeply apologize for the current lack of content and focus on the core fixes, but we have solidified our plans, so please look forward to the future!

I have to commend SE for giving us lots of information nowadays. If they keep on like this, I will be a very happy bunny! From what it looks like, they'll have no alternatives for party SP in 1.18. If this is indeed true, then they should wait with the leve SP-changes until they do.

PVP has been confirmed, and it looks like in the form of possible large scale. That or it is more of an end-game related event.
Question is, will pvp be allowed below the levels of end-game? we'll have to find out. Also that chocobo escort thing sounds fun.. haha
If some of that stuff is in 1.18, good, if not, then we have no way to level until it is, since leves be nerfed.
You do have a way of ranking. make a party and grind. duh
Yoshi has already said that there's not going to be any PK so we can pretty much assume that we'll be fighting in the Coliseum for Fame and Fortune!

Sweet! Glad to know they've been reading our post! It's funny, because just the the other day I was talking again about Chocobo carriage escorts and protecting them on future leve quests with a party or solo around a zone.
They have these escort missions already in the descriptions of current existing guildleves but lack the actual chocobos and NPC's from the description in the actual quest. So hearing this news has made be that much happier! ^__^
Also, hearing them bring up the talk of previously discussed beast tribe battles, lairs and content always brings me great joy, since I love soloing them and collecting their coins whenever I have free time on my hands.

Seriously, so they take away the only way to group level and dont have anything to replace it... seems very short sighted... more f'in waiting..
Atleast we aren't paying for service and they are working on getting these feature into the game. What else can u really ask for at this point to have everything miraculously finished even yoshida said the wrong direction was taken at the beginning and they are trying to undo years worth of development and redevelop to a proper quality level.
They are not taking anything away. Learn to understand what you are reading, please. The bonus for linking will now be given at the end and the number of links will be increased, so this actually encourages a full party to be formed. The cheap tactic of failing the leve will be abolished. Solo players will be able to keep getting nice amounts of SP/exp too. So you will be able to do the same thing you have been doing, except now, for your own benefit, you will not be failing the sames leves you have been doing since the exploit was found.
Yes, there are still ways of ranking up. I would say the same exact ways....
I'm not happy to hear about PvP. At all.
How can they keep saying that guildleve will now be solo play but they are still group play, whats changed other than having people finding a way to keep the worth while leves and not having to take very terrible leves that give little to no exp. It certainly doesn't sound like its moving forward.
My problem with PvP is not roaming, it's what it does to PvE. Cries of "OP!" and rounds of buffs and nerfs, skills we have to have, skills we can't, have aggravated me to beyond reason.
If it's just arena for fun, I don't have a problem with that, But if it's serious PvP (which it sounds like it is), I'm considering hanging up my game and thanking the devs for their time.
It's not a threat, it's just really how I feel.
Guess I'll just have to wait and find out the details.
I sincerely doubt they'll break PVE to deal with PVP, especially since this game's system is so open-ended that nearly everyone can have every ability.
Also, that post sounds fantastic. Now we'll just have to see if they actually add any of it before we all die of old age. :)
It was nice then he goes by saying more solo come on Yoshi-p did you not see from the FFXIV poll that we want dam party play not solo? Or are you reading the noobs on here who only care about solo play? You can solo without issue make it so players can fight mobs around there level for a good amount of sp Then give party players EXP chain so they can get more EXP per kill so the party can level a little faster then solo and maybe solo would like to join players who are partying.
I like to see this parties in public fields he talking about i bet we wont get that too map fix.

What you guys are blind in seeing:
This content is ment to be Solo, SE said it, like 50 times. So how is increasing the Links and decreasing the bonus thus affectively forcing you to find MORE people in order to get the same SP we get now.
But oh no you some how all get sucked into this unknown-value rewarded SP, well when you REDUCE the SP from linking and REDUCE the SP from killing the foes, the REWARD seems like it will be the amount you JUST lost.
All in all the only win is that its trying to stop you from failing and mule boosting. But to the rest of you, until you know this magical fairy dust reward SP, what if its like 1500SP and you've lost 4k during the leve comparing it with current system, then you'll all be crying because guildleves are the ONLY beneficial way to level for the average person, no one gives a crap if you've found some super camp out in the middle of no where, your average person doesnt know that. And your average person will pms their average leve now on average gives them less than before (ON PAPER).
Dont say I'm wrong because of this unknown-reward value that you dont know of. I'll be happy to be proven wrong then, just does not seem like it because if its all about solo play why increase the link amount but decrease the bonus? Math prevails in this if you cant understand the logic to it.

It looks like there are going to be a lot of interesting regular Party SP-gaining methods. If you could pass along one hope that we have (regarding the highlight in blue):
* Can you let them know that we hope they can get some of the work done on "enhancing... exp. parties in public fields" (i.e., more areas and more monsters for Parties of all ranks to fight) for Patch 1.18?
Because without some increase in places/methods to SP on for Parties, the changes in 1.18 will mean some heavy downtime / crowding / fighting for SP in a Party Situation in fields (or going Solo in Guildleves more often).

I have a feeling anything they add to level up your character is going to be just as boring as leves. I'm glad that they're are improving solo play but these new ideas just seem dull.

As indicated by Yoshida himself, until at least 1.20, all the rank up group oriented content will not be implemented (Or fully implemented). So, they are re-balancing leves so that Solo players get a more worthwhile reward when doing leves. They are re-balancing leves so that groups do not have to rely on petty tactics to gain SP/EXP.
For what I have understood, Yoshida is using this re-design so that casual players, with little time, that do not have the time to group up during what ever time, when doing leves, get a more meaningful bang for their limited time. All the while enhancing the group experience for a more healthy party play.
Both problems fixed in one single update. What I hear from the people complaining is that you would still like to get the insane amounts of SP you were getting while doing the fail tactic.
All in all. No, we have not been left without any forms of gaining sp, what has actually happened is that now casual/solo players wont have to spend time looking for group when they dont have the time do so/spend time looking for group when they just want to play solo.
Some keep saying this is counter productive to the solo oriented direction leves have taken. Why? because now casual/solo players will gain more SP while doing leves? or, realistically speaking, because you wont be able to gain those insane amounts of SP you were gaining while failing leves?
How they have set this up, is a win/win situation for everyone until all the other rank up group oriented content is in place. I think I read someone mentioning: "now well be forced to make up a full party to gain the most amount of sp". As you can see, I am only rank 28 CON, my highest, but wasnt 8 man party to begin with, the best way to do the fail leve tactic? So what the hell?....
