A new server wouldn't segregate anything... there are no server transfers now.....
PS3 players are welcome on any server... new or old

If it's just more servers you're asking for, then SE has them already. I mean, FFXI had a large number of servers and they turned several off over the years. And I assume SE has a nice number of servers ready for XIV that's already been planned ahead for PS3 release.
I assume if SE understood one thing from FFXI is the need for many servers.
The OP completely throws everyone off with it's point of topic.
#1 has nothing to do with my original reply.
#2 And it's your problem if you haven't been playing it in the meantime. Look at my posts, I'm one of the harshest critics here of FFXIV. I've been weathering the storm, while you ran off. Why should I be limited in how I can server transfer to play with friends because YOU have an issue with the game?
I have no complaints with new servers being opened, at all.
What I oppose is the idea that people should NOT be allowed to transfer there, and you have not answered why that should be allowed (besides, "Bawwwww, I want a server where nobody is ahead of me because I voluntarily quit playing!).
We had 300k+ on these servers around launch do you think there will be enough PS3 customers to justify adding more servers?
PS3 player base in XI was around 400k at its peak... if they fix this.. that 300k could come from Japan alone.
I know a few games that do this, and from what I saw (world of warcraft) it is sucessful. But allow a free one time only transfer off the newbie server once you hit 30. And obviously make it optional or have it be a temp server that brings you to 30 then you pick a server from that point. Again have it be a choice. ffxi didn't do this but it help people learn the game. Most of the communication WHICH IS SO LACKING IN GAME. happens when a higher up meets a newbie. I wish we had a newbie icon to make it easier to know who a newbies is.
Terrible idea, game is already low on population. Also new players is the life and breath of a working economy.
Why on earth would they want to do that? So none of the current servers can get a fresh influx of new players? Seems like a pretty bad idea to me.
Just out of curiosity, but if you want to play with your PS3 friends so badly... why can't they come to your server?
I'm pretty sure why it shouldn't be allowed has been answered a few times, but here's one non-bawww answer for you: it would ruin the economy.
All the current servers have ruined economies. Gil is a joke. It might as well be Itchy & Scratchy Dollars. Many* people still playing have max gil. When the game is (re)launched on PS3, the quests and missions and leves aren't going to give such ridiculous amounts of gil; as rewards are scaled back and gilsinks added, the new player is going to accumulate wealth at a much slower rate causing a marked increase in the value of the gil piece. It will have an economy.
Now transfer in the people who've played for the last 9 months and have a ridiculous amount of gil. That much gil being added to the economy at once will cause massive inflation, which will cause all the new players being well below the poverty line by default.
You say you want to play with your friends, then fine, invite them to whatever server you're on. Why can't you do that?
* If not most**
** If not all

rip off their ears, pierce them with a 9-inch nail, stitch them back on,
and then roar right into that clean conch: LEARN TO READ.
Not that it would help.
I'm all for opening new servers, Selbina is still overpopulated always has been. I like it that way but too many PS3 players coming in might cause more ward crashes and such. I couldn't see them opening a new server with the state of other servers now, if the game picks up I could. For now I could see them closing off the overpopulated stars (3 chocobos on log in screen is an overpopulated server) and only letting the join the less populated ones, which I could see as problem for those who wanted to play with friends.

all 3 city have people walking around and doing leves sure ui'dah have the most people but vs all the rest of the world that have 3 chocobos selbina is the most overpopulated i would say it have a good 1.5-2k people playing on prime time more then any world out there.
Well, if you call an eyeballed 1.5k players "overpopulated"... ok, I can see your point.
It's good to know there are actually somewhat healthy servers left.
If PS3 ppl had really wanted to play XIV they would have done what I did and build a new pc that can run the game well for $500. I didnt start at launch and was kinda bummed but I worked extra hours an saved up for a couple months. That let me join in on the fun(?) plus now I have a pc that isnt a dinosaur. As for being behind that is just the way of the world and folks just have to deal with that.
No, Ei, Nej, Nein, いや, Nei, не, Non, Nee, Nie
this gam,e does not work well with all new servers. The Economy really blows without higher level crafters than battlers. If they make new servers it would be in thier best interest to offer server moves. so they can balance the new players with the old.
Hurrah for people not reading.
I actually think this might be a good idea, just add a couple servers that don't have server transfer options(not that we have that option right now anyways) for PC or PS3 player, leave the rest as is, open to PS3 or PC, and if they open server transfers by that time, just add a couple more new servers that allow transfers as well. Its simple, easy, and opens choice up for people.
A brand new economy may start off to a rocky start while the crafters establish the gear market, assuming nothing else changes between now and PS3 release. That would be a temporary problem.
Introducing billions and billions of gil all at once would permanently ruin the economy.
I'd rather take the "how it should have happened" server.
I don't know though... when I was coming up, we got to the late 30's and yet no one was able to make gear over low 30's.... And that was when it took FOREVER to grind a battle class...
Now you can get a battle class to 50 in a month... I just can't see a crafter starting from square one without a full market ward being able to get to levels where they can support the high level battle classes...
When I first started, if I had hit 50 in less than a month, I'd be wearing a Bronze Haubergeon at R50
thats just for me though... I do agree new players should have the right to choose new or old server... IF and only IF there are enough new players to warrant opening a new server
No thanks.
Yes, crafting should definitely be streamlined if it's going to continue to be so absolutely integral to the game. I'm sure S-E is going to fix crafting before the re-launch, but even if they don't, would you rather get to 50 wearing a bronze haubergeon because nobody made anything better yet or get to 50 wearing copper chainmail because bronze haubergeons are 5 million gil and you only have 600k total from 50 levels of grinding and leves?
True... and like I said earlier.. I do have fond memories of My entire LS wearing Sheepskin Subligars.... and when we got our first Haubergeons.... good times....
They will have to open up more servers if the PS3 numbers hit 1 mill.... And I don't see them having server transfers by then
That's a dual negative, so yes again?Quote:
No, just no.
We already got you the first time.
No need to repeat yourself.
Awww so cute that people think the PS3 version is coming. I love the optimism <3
I appreciate the serious response, but my response would be roughly the same: give it a month or two, and we're back where we started. I don't necessarily know where PS3 friends might end up.
But I'll take my argument partially back. What if we did a middle ground, and allowed server transfers - *after* a couple months? The PS3 users got their chance to "start fresh" to the point where anybody new starting fresh is significantly behind, just like any other server, and the economy is all sorts of goofy - just like any other server.
My only complaint with OP's idea is that nobody should be allowed to transfer ever, on the grounds that *he* admitted he voluntarily quit and *he* wanted an even playing field on an MMO he quit. Can you imagine if I went to Blizzard and said, "Hey, make a new server after Cata just for me so I can start fresh and not be behind, because I didn't like WoW originally and voluntarily quit."
When Karnak (My server) launched, it was the Saturday after the standard edition... At it was added due to crowding on other servers....
There weren't (and still aren't) any server transfers so technically it was a new players only server....
If a server is added at PS3 launch, and there are still no server transfers (Which I doubt there will be) then it will be new "characters" only which is what I think the OP was talking about... So you can create an alt on that server in your existing account and PS3 players can create characters on the new server or any existing server,
They will have a choice just like I did
He wasn't talking about a PS3 only server... just a new server in general
