I think it has already started slowly. More indie games are becoming more popular because they step away from the theme park settings.
You have zero basis for this statement.
FF games have always been pretty linear, FFXIII just got more slack about it because it went too far, so it's not really true that FF fans dislike linearity (though it's not like ARR is more linear than your run of the mill FF, so I'm not even sure why you bring something like this up).
I'm honestly pretty curious to see what you think a MMO "targeted to FF fans that have been loyal for 20+ years" should look like. You say that FF fans don't like theme park MMO's (for some reason that you haven't explained) so what exactly would be an MMO that FF fans would like? It sure as hell isn't FFXI, because that one probably attracted only 10% of the fanbase, if that.
Final Fantasy has always been a linear RPG series. The difference is the richness of things to experience despite its linearity. It gave you a story path, but still enough breathing room to feel like you were really part of the story.
I would like to see some polls similar to the ones done in 1.0.
I really don't think the majority enjoys this cookie cutter 4-5 minutes quest structure.
Probably going to get flamed for this but the last thing Square should be doing is listening to this forum most of you don't even know what you want.
Well take a look at the last 4 months. FATE vs Dungeon XP was changed. Gil generation vs gil required was changed. ToM limit was raised. Housing cost over cost was acknowledge with in days of outrage and is being address. The list goes on.
I would like to see polls and road map return just to keep players in the loop. Yoshi did a good job by not only giving us status update but letting us know about delays.
