I met my first nasty player when I transferred servers. I played beta, and on Goblin. Met a lot of really nice helpful people. Then I moved to an EU server, and it is normal to see rude comments toward people in groups. Players stepping over bodies instead of raising them, when there is no good reason not to. Also, I've helped people who were obviously in trouble by healing them, then of course I get all their mobs. Then they run off and leave me to deal with them. This happens a lot. I've raised people in the middle of a battle (FATE), then when it is over, they run off and leave me. Even when they have a raise skill. Today in several runs, we were trying to help new people in HM dungeons, and 3 of 4 healers were very rude and made terrible comments when anyone made the slightest mistake. Rudeness is not going to help make better players... I did come here with a nice group of friends so I try to avoid grouping with anyone outside the FC.
I was running CM with a couple of friends... and while the person in question wasn't rude towards me, he was being rude towards my friend. My friend handled everything graciously, by saying things back to the rude person like, "I like you. Let's be friends." It was actually really funny to watch, but also probably the best way I have seen rudeness handled. The guy eventually stopped.
Day one I met a jerk screaming at people for being so stupid that they couldn't even do the first dungeon in the game... ON THE FIRST DAY WHEN NO ONE KNEW HOW TO PLAY YET!!!
You know, before I transferred servers, my blacklist was full of RMT spammers. After I switched servers to join RL friends and had the blacklist autowiped, it's now full again... but this time there isn't a SINGLE RMT on it. It's full of douchebags and assholes instead. I've never seen so many players with so little respect for other people in over ten years of MMO gaming.
It was probably about a couple of months in. I was running Aurum Vale with two people (warrior and bard) from my FC, and we pugged the healer through Duty Finder. We got a Scholar in AF gear who spam healed himself when the tank was low on health, and kept running ahead and pulling mobs, resulting in wipes. The tank was like "why did you do that?" The healer didn't answer, so we theorized maybe it was someone running some kind of bot. So the tank was like "say something or I'll report you." Finally the healer, after not having responded to any previous questions, replied with "go ahead I don't care." We were going to leave the dungeon after that (this was before vote kick was implemented), but luckily the healer left and we got another healer and finished the dungeon.
Unfortunately have met some really nasty folks after hitting 50. WP has been bad. First time I ran it, I had four people bail before it even started. One of the DPS told me it was because I had beginner gear. Lately, if a speed run doesn't go as planned, I see people becoming horrible to one another. Woe to the healer if they can't keep up with huge pulls...never mind that they may not be geared up. I'm avoiding AK since my first run through was do dreadful. I was berated for standing in the wrong place, pay attention, etc. Need to gather up my courage and just do it again for practice. Now that I'm geared much more, should be a bit easier.
Most folks say nothing but some players out there are really, really socially inept and perhaps suffer from extreme anger issues. I feel a bit sorry for them.
When I first started playing the game I was on a JP server because it had room for me, didn't have a lot of issues even if we really didn't communicate at all because I know almost no Japanese. Then Brayflox came in, keep in mind this is my first mmo, I was going on my paladin had been reading up on the dungeon and I was afraid of what sort of people I'd get. They seemed really nice to begin with telling me all the strategies and were speaking English and all that. They did tell me a few times during the run that I had to use flash more, which I did, then the final boss came and I died, I lost aggro and never got it back, this happened twice before the healer told me that every tank that day sucked then left. I made a new character on a US server after that, now I have sooo many more friends and yes I see mean people still, and yes I quit tanking because of mean people, but man Brayflox and AV are the two places I dread to return to...
I have met my fair share of jerks. It started happening after I hit 50, it was like every person just hated for he sake of hating. This game has a serious problem with people like this and it will be the downfall.
I heard people talk about quitting tanking or healing because of rudeness (I'm one of them), I've heard of people so mean they caused others to quit playing entirely (a friend actually did that).
Why are people like this? I can only assume they have nothing in real life and lash out to people in a game because what can we do about it?
If thats the case then it makes me feel less angry with them and more sorry but.. the only one who can change your life is you.
I've been playing since early access and I don't think I've come across anyone who I would actually consider rude, yet. The closest have been a couple of people who were a little too bossy, but I know that they were just trying to be helpful. Definitely never had anyone insult me for little or no reason.
Admittedly I have a lovely FC who I generally run with, but when I've run on my own my party members have been very kind and patient toward each-other. Since the commendation system arrived I have had quite a few runs where I genuinely wished I could commend everyone for both their performance and sociability :) I think my first experience with a nasty user will be a real shock to the system :(
I'm shocked that it took 4 pages before a troll posted in here.
Maybe the community isn't as bad as we thought.
During my 3rd Dzemael Darkhold run while I was about level 45. Tank who didn't want to listen to IMO very gentle advice. Guess I've been mostly lucky regarding unpleasant encounters since most of the time I leveled up with a very dear friend.
Nothing about the lv.45 unpleasantness compared to the last two story missions though. I haven't logged in since the credits rolled. I'm not gonna spend time with such a community if people are like how I saw them be throughout the endgame. Judging by everything I'm hearing it'd only be getting worse after Praetorium too.
Trampling all over first timers in a god damn feature that's supposed to be there to help them (duty roulette) seems absurd to me.
Story mode Garuda. Some asshat was getting on my case for not knowing how to do I fight that I'd just gotten to.
I've played since 1.0 Beta and I met my first in-game troll last night in CM. I'll spare you the details and everything worked out in the end anyway. Vote. Kick. Replace. Win. Thank goodness for that feature!
For what it's worth, all my low-level duty roulette experiences have been good, probably because the dungeons are easy, low-stress, and not populated with speed-runners. Also, last night we did the Cape Westwind fight and needed a couple of people to fill out the party, so I did a /y at Mor Dhona and FOUR players offered to help! It's a quick and easy fight, of course, but it was nice that people were willing to help. Unfortunately, I totally derp-offtanked through the whole thing and embarrassed myself, but they were polite about it at least.
As others have said, it started for me at lvl50 and endgame. I've dialled it back a bit and I'm playing much more casually and enjoying it :-)
I can't remember the dungeons name, but it was the one with the flying eyeball that patrols the caves and AOEs all over the place. I warned the group it was my first time tanking it, and the first thing out of someone's mouth was "lol no AF gear"... The mood is set, and it just continued getting worse throughout the dungeon, even though we were still doing half decently. I finally couldn't take it anymore and left 75% of the way through the end boss fight. Was also the end of me tanking for a few months...
To those who say "get better" how? If every time a new player enters an instance, they get yelled at for not knowing it? How are they ever supposed to get better? Endgamers need to step up and help people out. I'm still taking it slow myself, but I don't have a problem with repeated wipes while teaching new people how to do something. They learn, they get better, and they feel good about the game when they pass the dungeon. Then when we move on to the harder stuff, they are better prepared and not stressed out worrying about some jerk calling them a noob or worse. If you want smooth runs with only people who know the run, then don't DF it. Pre-make your group and leave the new people alone. They don't need your bad attitude.
I had a bad party in Garuda HM once when I was farming for the weapon. They told me I didn't know my job as it was my first time MTing it and you know what I did? I said, okay... solo tank this. And I left. Now when I'm in a new fight I watch closely to what's being said and ask for any tips and I do get them.
Day 1 but for me thats common its online afterall.
Not often. Meet a lot of nasty people in shout chat but I do get one hell of a kick out of winding them up.
I've only run into one person that was obnoxiously rude. Most of the time when I do duty finder everyone is either silent outside the initial greetings, or jokes around. Today I had a CT run that almost every fight was a near wipe, but man chat was hilarious.
I was on Halatali with a pug group, i dps and my friend healing. The tank was awful and asked all of us like, is this your tenth dungeon or something (yes, it actually was for me :P ) A lot of rudeness like we were so stupid an did my pet even attack?? (Yes it was) Since I had been playing very lithe then I felt it was like a blow to my face and this guy made me sad. After that it took a loooong time for me to go into dungeons with ppl I didn't know. Now I've had som positive experiences also, but still mostly like do stuff with my FC.
It is the Internet. Met one on my first login in Beta.
A French player once called me "damn Nazi" in a run lol never found out why because I did not do anything irritating in that run. Good thing was that the other 2 players (not from Germany) gave that guy a really hard time afterwards. He was DPS and healer didn't heal him anymore and when he grabeed aggro, the tank didn't even try to get it back so he died a few times till he left cursing us all. :xd Oh well, some peeps are just special. And that some use the Nazi card on German players in 2013 is something that shouldn't be commented further lol.
Mostly just ran into less skilled players. No actual disgusting people yet.
i started encountering lots of unfriendly people inside lv 50 story end , lv50 dungeons etc. , insulting and votekicking people new to the instances is nothing uncommon
I normally tank, and I'm pretty good at keeping aggro/using CDs and making sure I go at the right pace depending on the group. So, I normally only get people that are nice. :)
However, yesterday, while tanking brayflox longstop for the first time, I had a summoner who kept complaining and whining because I skipped a chest off in a nook some where. Then I said, "Oh, again (because I said it at the beginning), I don't really know this place". And he replied "Then how about you follow the people who DO know, instead of just running all over the place?". I responded "Na, you're a D***, so I'll just go where ever".
And then later on, the healer asked me if we could go into a side area that drops a ring and I told the group "Oh course. I don't mind doing whatever, I just didn't appreciate the way the summoner was presenting his case".
Basic decency goes a long way while asking the person "leading" the group to go some where extra. I'm always very cordial to all my groups and I never mind doing anything to make the run better for all. Heck, I'm that tank that waits at the bosses door in Prae until everyone is inside. But, I do expect to receive the same kind of respect. A simple, "Can we get the chest over here?" would have been enough to make me head your direction. Saying stuff like, "You're skipping loot AGAIN." is not the best way to get me to cooperate.
Also, this same guy kept attacking whatever he wanted instead of going in order (I always mark on low level stuff). So, if there were three mobs, the unmarked one would always rush him after a bit even though I'd use Flash a couple times. Some people just don't know how to act when in a group with other humans.
As soon as I hit endgame. Unless I'm playing with a group of friends it seems like I get nothing but nasty people.
I'd also like to add, that my first really nasty person was when I did CM the first time when I first hit 50 on my Dragoon. Most of the group was new and the tank wouldn't explain anything well and then call us all noobs when we would die or not do some mechanic right the first time. He would say stuff like OMG, KILL THE ADDS!" and then when some add spawned that we were supposed to ignore, we attacked it and died. He also kept saying stuff like "You guys are never going to make it in end game and I'm ashamed that I'm helping you get there" and stuff like that.
Heck, he was probably the main reason that I'm such a super friendly tank. I don't want people to think all tanks are like that.
2nd day of early access
I think I'll start with a good thing, then bad.
I had a good exp with PF, which surprised me. So I had to do Hydra for my Relic, but since it's not DF, I decided to try PF. So I went and started to recruit around Coreaths and advertise. Soon, I got a full party, all very nice to me. I explained that I was new to this, I can help with songs and silence. They very nicely explained the fight and after 3 wipes, still wanted to go on, so we all worked together and pulled it off.
My first bad experience was just last week, and I've been here since Alpha. I was trying to do AK for my relic and just got out of the fresh 50 boat. I tried AK various of times with nice Pugs, but this one was really mean. So I got in and started off with my nice speech, "I'm new, etc." WHM starts bitching... "Oh god... I was hoping for good geared players." and the Mnk says, " We are never going to finish this off." I start to apologize for my lack of gear, I just started. WHM then says, "That's no excuse to be badly geared, are you stupid or something?" But they stayed, just before we even made the first turn in the dungeon, the WHM D/C'd and we were like, what now? I then turned to the Mnk and said, "good riddance, who want's to play with two idiots like you? You were a noob once too y'know. Karma is a bitch." and left. Thankfully after that dillema, I went again and got a very nice pug group who even lead me to the last boss and defeated it. :3
During a couple of hours of Early Access. I usually meet them daily though.
I very rarely meet rude people in the game, mostly in crystal tower but then again that is also rare. First rude person I met was in 2.0 beta, I suppose.
The forums, on the other hand... are like the cesspool of this game's community most of the time.
I'd like to punch players like this in the mouth. Mouthbreathers that can't clear content unless they're 20 ilevels over the prereq, then take it out on newbies who are just trying to progress. Also you should've just reported him right off for harassment, seems to work real quick. Also I just got out of a WP with a fresh 50 dragoon, I was tanking it, everyone was nice, I explained fights, and we cleared it, one shotting everything, people who complain and harass over gear shouldn't be allowed to interact with other human beings.
Did you let them now t'was your first time tanking it? First time I tanked Garuda HM I said so and asked for advice (had killed her previous times as BRD). They ran through it with me. showed me where to take after each stage, trial run, then a kill. Then I passed over 100 kills tanking her trying to get the sword >.<
the first time I used a gaming forum page was the first time I met a nasty player
Tonight. I went into CT with an FC mate for the first time. No one explained fights to me, they just screamed at me and said I was the worst Tank ever. I spent the whole night doing the quest, and then when I left the CT group I got the DF penalty so I pretty much wasted my whole night. I can't stand people who will take the time to yell, but not to educate. Oh, and it's not like we even came close to wiping...so I don't know why they were screaming.
