3D Printed Avatars? Yes thank you please.

I love the idea of custom figures of your game characters but have you guys seen the WoW figureprints? 3D printing technology has a looooooooonnnng way to go before it's worth using for something like this.

Yup... in addition to printing the piece, you're going to need decent skill at painting the things. 3D printing with textures printed on them are not a cheap, or at good resolution for the average person right now.

Depends on the machine. If you are using a hobbiest machine lime a Makerbot then yes it can be difficult. If you have access to some of the machines I work on then you would not believe the detail I can get out of a machine. Granted, the machines I use are $250k - $750k. But there are services that can print a design for you using these machines, but I am unsure of the cost of that service.

If someone is really good in 3DS max (or whatever) and can get me the .stl file i can print one up and show everyone what it would look like.

I know a guy who did this with FFXI. He took the model out of Model Viewer and printed a statuette of his character using that. Very cool indeed.

I do remember reading an article once back in my ffxi days, and they would print out your character for you n ship it to you it was pretty expensive, but I loved the fact that they were so detailed I never did buy one though they charged a small fortune for them if I'm remembering right.

Not if it was a lower resolution. The primal would be only slightly bigger than the character (maybe the same size as a character/chocobo combo?) Your team would just be really small.

If you can provide a model there are several companies out there they will do a 3d print however they usually will stay away from anything game related because of copyright issues.

They would sell a LOT of figures at the right price and the right quality. People would not only order their avatars, but re order them in different gear.
I am ALL for this *throws money at screen* ^o^

And what about seasonal event based prints? I'm sure folks would buy any number of sets for friends and family that play

I'd be stoked if they did this for our guys what OP showed. I'm a professional miniature painter and I'd so prime that thing so fast and paint it myself!

Why convince them? I don't wanna break ToS but i will say this:

Some people have the .obj for public display.

It's an interesting idea that we'll look into. :) We don't know for sure if we'll do it, but if you all are really interested in it, we'll definitely consider it!

As an artist, I would very much like my avatar along with Yda to be 3D printed so I can color it.

Didn't SE say they would support 3rd party apps/ plug-ins on their material?


You can practically own your 3D printer and use their data as long as you don't profit off it.

Well that is perfectly understandable. If I had a brand and people were selling items online like this without a licensing agreement I would post up a C&D too.

However making them for personal use falls into a grey area.

Never mind 3D Printing... where's the Lalafell plushies? I want my white mage immortalized in an adorable cuddly form!

I fully support this (liked and signed)! Although my brother just bought a 3D printer not that long ago... I would definitely buy an officially produced miniature of my character if SE actually went ahead with this! I'd even buy any FFXIV-themed statue or figurine for that matter! :D

Wow a Figure of my in game character? That would be like the coolest thing ever! HELL YES I WANT THAT!

I would buy a whole bunch, if I could get them all custom made to be just how I want them!

If they are good quality and such I would definetly buy one or two, depending on the price. But I´m pretty sure that the character, even though they might look like your ingame character, have some restriction in the pose and such. Or the price for one and thus it´s rarity would be huge.

If this were to happen, I wouldn't want it to until at least 2.2. That way, I have time to get accustomed to vanity slots and work out an appearance that I absolutely love!

I actually wouldn't mind figures of XIV NPCs, either. If they made Minfilia, Alphinaud, and Merlwyb figurines, I'd buy them in a heartbeat.
