as a newbie
1 for forums: all there is is crying, complaining, and people thinki they know the game but do not understand the reasons for anything.
1 for ingame: trying to find an active LS is like pulling teeth (in ul'dah) Trying to talk to people outside of LS is again like pulling teeth.
this community is by far the most self absorbed, anti social mmo community I've seen. I much rather deal with the cyber freeks in WoW then to try and get a convo started on here.
This community wants an ffxi-like mmo yet the community is by far worst the Aion + WoW combined. The only think I asked for with this new game is a GOOD COMMUNITY.
And before you talk down how I am on forums, I wasn't the one who started the drama, you guys picked on me for my spelling and difference in opinion just because at the time I didn't play. I still have those opinions and I playing the game I said i was gonna play, and I'm having fun. Just would like ppl to talk to. I'm a nice person if you took time get to know me.
4, i rate the in game community by how much in game talking is going on, I am on Selbina server pretty populated and a few sexual harassment shouts here and there but 'tis no Aht Urghan/White gate. The out of game community ie forums, websites is a 5 on this particular website and a 3 on third party websites. Trolls on this forum care more about the game then trolls on third party websites, and third party websites need to get their crap together as far as wikis go (i have a dirty mouth and I clean up for these forums, so I'm implying here I'm pretty angry at third party websites). I shouldn't need yg, eorzeapedia and maybe even ffxivpro for things. :/
English:
In game: 4 - There are some nice people I've met in game, but they are not the majority.
Forums: 1 - No need to elaborate.
Japanese:
In game: 9 - We have a very good, active, friendly, and helpful Japanese community.
Forums: 3 - Japanese forums are not very active, and there is a lot of complaining there too. There are also people from the English side who use Google Translate and troll there too, which has really dragged down the quality.
I love how people think there's tons of trolls on this forum. There really aren't people are really quick to call people trolls on this forum. The average person on this forum just cares about the game and has nothing better to do than post on these forums because playing the game isn't cutting it for them for various reasons. At MAX there are 10 trolls on this forum and even then I have seen legitimate posts from Gifthorse, Belgian Rofl, and Vesperia people that are called out all the time, where it seems as if they do truly care about the game they just go about it in a negative way according to people. This forum doesn't even have serious trolls and some people need to evaluate their definition of troll. Because having 2000 posts doesn't always make you a troll, having 2000 posts which contribute absolutely nothing to the forums and overly bashing people on purpose makes you a troll. Overly negative comments make you overly negative. There are some trolls and some trolling but not a 2:1 effing ratio.
One thing I don't like about FFXIV community is racism
a lot of players don't want to play with player from other regions and SE do nothing about this issue or don't even count it as an issue
they need to pay more attention since they're running an international servers
4.5 -- nobody is friendly (in comparrison to ffxi). Like, if i was somewhere away from town and randomly /tell'ed somebody to look at something in market wards they'd probably either say A. go $(#^ yourself or B. why are you in Gridania?
Not that I could /sea a random person in XIV but, just for instance.
Did it on FFXI couple days ago, first person I asked was more than happy too.
I miss the friendliness of XI. Badly.
Everybody's so pissed off at the state of the game, they're ignoring their fellow pissed off'ers (or is it off'es? lol :P.)
you can't force people from other countruies to play with you and it itsn't race/nationalism if thet do not want to group with you. Most ppl perfer groupingwith ppl who speak the same lanquage so they can talk and have fun. But honestly the only groups i've seen are the supposed "bots" no one really parties.
i've had this happen I just wave hi to ppl and i get no tells, if i do get a tell back it is "do i know you?" and then when I say no then do not reply back. Or only friend me thinking I can help them out. But then unfriend me when they find out I can't. I was expecting a ffxi like community here to. And do not blame the game for how the community is. Even once this game improves people will still act like they do.
You should blame the game for the community the reason XI was better was because you had to party in XIV you don't simple as that and thats what ruined the community not trolls not players from other MMOs or fanboys. SE ruined the community the moment they said ''This time we are looking to make the game more solo friendly.'' Even casual has nothing to do with it I knew plenty of XI players who played casually but still talked and did stuff
Solo and Community do not go hand in hand.
not true. I play other types of mmo where solo was big and they had decent comminuties. Its not the game its the players. I met tons of nice ppl in mabinogi and that was a very solo centric game same for pwi and free realms.
People just need to start to get to know ppl better. And stop assuming the worst outa everyone. I think people should just stop being so closed off and find fun in grouping w/o a need for it. You can group in this or any mmo just for the heck of it. Yet do not do so.
Segregation is the solution!
7/10
People in game always help each other, and sometimes they just want to chit-chat a little. They're very social and help you having a good time around Eorzea.
The only problem here is that when you seek a party, because of the Party Search System, mostly you'll stay alone and have to shout your request.
You didn't say forums, so... in yo face =D
A definite 1. Why? Because 0 was not an option.
There is no general chat, if you have a question you cant ask around. Not the fault of the community of players, the fault of the incompetent developers of this game.
A community where people cannot communicate outside of specialized channels is no community.
Im sure the actual players are great people and they would make a great community if they were given the chance, unfortunately the game engine doesnt support community.
I have to agree with Kaboro. The game itself doesn't support community or communication. No chat channels (general/trade/LFP), LS management is broken, player search function is broken.
As much as I sometimes hate general chat in other games, being without it now has made me realize how quiet the world can be.
It's not the community's fault.
A bunch of pain in the asses..
~(( " 6 " ))~
5, because it's the middle ground. The game's community is no where near to say WoW or even FFXI, where making friends was easy, and it was just an overall GREAT community.. In this game people are either all pissed off at the world, or hate SE , or just fricken complain, granted the reason I am giving it a 5 is because there are a few people who are worth meeting, however those few don't make up the entirety of the community.. unfortunately. (Granted I complain too but jesus christ IDK how you can go to something so wrong from something so right..)
I would give in-game a 7-8ish, would be higher if there was various chats general/trade/lfg etc. As it stands the players at least on my server are super friendly and often the exchange for goods services spots in parties goes across LS Boundries. What makes community poor in-game is the clunky UI especially when crafting or in combat, i mean its really a pain to chat with people while crafting to the point that most of the time i avoid it.
I would give Forum community a 5(4.7ish really), pretty entertaining and often informative mixed with lots of rage and qq. Wouldn't mind a little more feedback from reps a few posts a day is pretty low.
The Community in Rabanastre is prob about a 7. People are really friendly. My LS community is a 9 (just cause there is always room for improvment) Whenever I log on there is always something crazy going on. My LS mates will always drop what they are doing to help someone out too. We have tons of fun contests and events.
6.
3. if you're going off personalities & attitudes
Well, partially yes. If they implement a game system where co-dependence is virtually absent,Quote:
you re right Vesperia its not my fault if i m acting like an assehole , its SE fault
every player can hide behind his retainers, party play is nothing but a bunch of strangers ganging
up for a few minutes to zerg some leves... that's not the best basis for a healthy community.
And don't forget that by now only really neurotic weirdos are left.
The mentally healthy population has long since moved on.
2/10 and that's being generous. This game has one of the worst communities I've ever seen in any online title.
Most definitely a 0. It's sad, really. Part of the problem is that everything can be done solo so people just disregard others. Why play an MMO if you are just taking the MM out? If you /say or /shout in towns (even Uld, the most popular), 9 times out of 10, no one will care and you'll just be ignored. You need an LS if you want to do any sort of party-based activities because randoms are either not interested, or are just bots/RMT.
The current class system also took out the R of RPG.Quote:
Why play an MMO if you are just taking the MM out?
That's what they call "streamlining the experience". -.^/
2 at the best. I rate it two because 2/10 people have opinions that are solely constructive opinions (not "whitty" slaps to the face).
9/10 on Selbina - Have only met a few douchebags, and one JPONRY asshat (sadly he was actually Japanese and horrifically racist, actually tried to join my party and pull the JP's I had already into his one).
5/10 on the forums - Too many trolls and whiners, not enough people who are true fans of the FF series. You could sit these forums side by side with WoW's official forums, and not tell the difference (if it wasn't for the colour scheme and branding of course).
I'll tell you why that is, actually. Ironically, both games are suffering from something very similar right now. And that's lack of fun.
WoW's newest expansion, Cataclysm, has dissatisfied a large portion of the community. Heroic dungeons and raids have had the difficulty tuned so high, that it's alienated many players. Healers are playing DPS alts or just quitting the game. And those who stuck around are so worried about completing the runs, they fly off the handle whenever a wipe happens. Content is both lackluster, stressful, and all about twitch mechanics now, so the element of fun is just plain missing. There are also a lot of other issues, like the fragmented questing, how things feel more grindy, and how the new Guild Advancement System has killed smaller tight-knit family guilds. And there are a lot of cranky people because of it.
Here, people are so bored and frustrated, coming up on a year (if you started in beta) waiting for fixes and content and the product we paid good money for, they're just as cranky. Albeit for a different reason.

In XI for example, after a certain period you pretty much had to join other players to progress. Often new friends were made and there was a sense of excitement going into a party that performed together like a well oiled machine.
In XIV, I haven't yet experienced that. It's partially due to the issues related to the game, and the lack of challenging content. XI was a grindfest, but it was a group effort in majority of its activities. That's how the game was designed ground up. Taking a much more casual and solo approach to a game causes this. I'm often reminded of WoW actually when it comes to this topic.
I have no doubt in my mind many of you out there are some really fun people. But right now the game in its current state really doesn't offer much, especially in this area.
...nonexistant?
