90% of my CS voice acting is non existent for some reason.
I hope so. I feel that the cut-scenes we see in 2.2 will give us an idea of what we can expect from here on out. ARR was clearly rushed and it shows through the low quality cut-scenes, poor voice acting, and what seems like a very rushed main story quest. And the reason I say 2.2 is because 2.1, from what I've been seeing, is just a patch with the stuff we should have gotten at launch plus a few extras, so I don't exact the quality in production to increase by much.
dodge? Wth is that supposed to mean? I'm not dodging anything.
I'm a legacy character, I know all of this already. I wasn't even referring to the ARR opening. I know you are talking about the ingame cutscenes. I still maintain that there has been no degredation in CS quality from 1.0. I played the whole story and both games and throughly enjoyed both. I see nothing wrong with them in this game.Quote:
Um, you do understand we're talking about cutscenes... not the Full Motion Video opening that came with ARR. Did you click on any of the links in my opening post? The "giant red moon crashing into the world" was actually also done in 1.0. It was the ending cinematic to the game when the servers were taken offline. I am talking about the ingame cinematics that take place throughout the story.
I'm really not sure where you got the idea that I was only talking about the FMVs.
The amount of people who want 1.0 back really saddens me. That game was beyond broken.
I loved 1.0, but ARR is far better in almost every aspect.
The grass was not greener.
Does anyone remember the epic cutscene with in-game graphics where the sky darkened with massive clouds in and instant? That was amazing!
I have to agree that the level of storytelling needs to pick up.
2.0 Is a lot better when it comes to the technical side of writing as they dropped the incomprehensible old english but I'm still not really attached to any of the characters or events happening in the world.
Cutscenes certainly can do a lot to flesh out the personalities more but beyond that I hope to see the NPCs fighting alongside me to give them more meaning beyond set dressing.
The game already has few of these instances but it's underplayed given how effective it is.
Cutscenes in some of the normal quests would be good too. These people we're helping in the world are kind of flat at the moment but that doesn't mean the situation couldn't be improved upon.
What about this?

Are we now argue about the graphic quality in the CS or the content quality in the CS? Even in 1.0, not all CS were full with actions

Really? I mean, I'm not one for ARR-bashing, but compare the opening intros for each city:
Version 1 Limsa: On a storm-wracked ship, big lightshow, jellyfish invasion *Brief interlude to fight jellyfish invasion* Y'Shtola protecting you with big bubble shield then OMGWTF Leviathan-esque monster leaping over the ship with slow-mo vanity shot of character with water particle effects etc:
Version 2 Limsa: Floating crystal. Floating Character. Ascion appears. Player gets AF gear, fade to white. Appear on ship.
Version 1 Gridania: Airship crashing down into trees. *Brief Interlude to fight wolves* Papalymo and Yda fighting wolves with you. Suddenly wolf disappears. Then another. OMGWTF it's a Treant. Run Away! Being chased by an angry Treant which then slams the ground launching the three of you into the air where time stops? OMGWTF a Moogle marching band???? Treant gets led away then you fall to the ground.
Version 2 Gridania: Floating crystal. Floating Character. Ascion appears. Player gets AF gear, fade to white. Appear in caravan.
Version 1 Ul'dah: Flower girl Mi'quote handing out pretty flowers to a little boy then vaulting/flipping onto a parade float. Marching band, awww, cute Mammets. Imprisoned Goobbue. Not so imprisoned anymore! *Brief Interlude to fight Goobbue* Goobbue charging down Ul'dah's main highway. Little boy saved from being crushed at last moment.
Version 2 Ul'dah: Floating crystal. Floating Character. Ascion appears. Player gets AF gear, fade to white. Appear in caravan.
They didn't even change the intro sequences much between the three nations in ARR. The cinematography in version 1 was just better, hands down.
A bit of a strawman, no? Misrepresenting the other side's views and all. Nobody in this thread has said the words "I want 1.0 back". Heck, I challenge you to find anyone in the entire forum who wants version 1.0 back. Some people prefer the later versions (1.23 is particularly popular) . Most of those who advocate returning things from version 1 are advocating specific things rather than the game wholesale. For example, no-one wants the graphics engine back from version 1, but we would like the textures (should come with DX11 update). People may also want the animations back from version 1 but not the animation lock.
It's almost like there's a middle ground between your position and the position of the people you made up in your head who want V1.0 back wholesale.
Bolded the operative word. 'Almost' every aspect. Cinematography and cutscenes can be argued to have had quite a downgrade. Wouldn't you want that improving?
Wow.. The downgrade in graphics really depresses me.. Dont get me wrong, I love everything in 2.0. But MAN the graphics and and cs parts have taken a huge hit. The entire tone of the story, graphics and all cs. --Tone wise 2.0 is like animated batman you watch on saturday mornings whereas 1.0 seemed more like The Dark Knight in its tone and over all theme. I liked that. ARR just doesnt have that same tone or emotion from its CS. ARR is more light hearted. When people are hurting from a tragedy or if someone dies I just dont feel it like I did in 1.0. (though the 2.0 thm/BLM class/job quest storyline was pretty good but the rest falls short imho)
Normaly im sort of a white knight when it comes to ARR but there just isnt any way around the fact that 1.0 was superior in its graphics and CS cinematics and the sort. most of 1.0 was pretty crappy in regards to gameplay (at first.. got much better later on) etc but 1.0 pretty much nailed theme/tone CS cinematics shadows/lighting and graphics. ARR is a huge step down in that department but in every other area 2.0 is well passed superior to 1.0
I hate to agree but yes 2.0 is very lacking in comparrison to 1.0 in this particular area.. Normaly I keep my rose tinted color glasses on but even those glasses arent helping in this aspect of the game.
Please S.E... Get some action and emotions in your Cut Scenes. Would like to see my character take out his lance or fists and hit someone in a cs. Need more Action with a dark tone kinda like when Garland came out of the smoke in 1.0 and was owning everyone with his gunblade. Yoshi-P please add more dark tone and action. (Though I must confess, I did love how ultima owned the weakened primals crushing ifrits skull, giving titan a shoryuken of sorts to the gut and biting garudas head off lol) Get the graphics back right so we can fully enjoy all the talented the developers posses and the great tone/story Final Fantasy has always been able to produce for its fans. Much love! <3 :)
Side note (a little off topic): I think it would be outstanding if the added more choices for cutscenes that better reflect your characters personality.. Kinda like how you make choices in Dragon Age. Or maybe at character creation having an option to pick the type of personality your character has instead of just being in a cs almost always emotionless. Like Lala emotes are always extra happy joyfull. Why not a more serious lala? Or a sarcastic personality. I would love to have that lol.
It's not a strawman at all, I was referencing past threads and not just this one. And I can easily find people pining over 1.23, there's people who want it back in almost every thread that brings up 1.0
And again, I wouldn't say so. The cut-scenes in Prae and post Garuda are on par if not better than a lot of the cut-scenes in 1.0. I think people forget about all the filler scenes with endless dialogue boxes that 1.0 contained.
I'd say even the serious filler was better than the dialogue boxes we have today. Watch 1.0s talky cutscenes and notice the panning cameras. The camera angles. Notice how the camera will often be in the background putting some people speaking in the adventurer's guild into focus a bit. The positioning and feel of their cinematography is palpable in 1.0~ and as I'm sure you've played it I honestly do find it surprising this hasn't been noticeable to you.
