Ifrit ain't another no fun allowed thread.
Extreme mode titan...
Attack on Titan *badumtish*
Garuda: "The Wind Cries... Scary"?
ok that one was kind of a reach
Siren: "Don't go chasing Waterfalls"
The puns are worth at least 10% of my subscription fee alone.
Yeah, what you wrote was ALSO lazy writing. Half-assed puns don't make for compelling reading material, hence why Dr. Seuss only made children's books. Takes a bit more brain power to find a creative way to represent or convey idea than to just look at what x character does and try to shoehorn it into a pun.
Like I said, I enjoy good (and intentionally bad) puns here and there. But at a certain point when every single fate and quest is a pun - some worse than the Titan one - you wind up rolling your eyes more than grabbing your tummy and letting out a hearty guffaw. Why is pun moderation such a bad thing? I'm not saying don't use puns at all, I'm saying don't force puns just for the sake of having a pun. Do you punderstand?
I suppose they could have called Titan Extreme "The Umbilical" or something if we're going to go deeper and want to remain consistent.
Speaking as a person who sits around with her boyfriend for hours on end coming up with the worst/silliest/funniest puns we can.... there is no such thing as too many puns.
I love the humour in FFXIV. It's one of the best parts of the game.
but the puns are part of the fun in this game.
Eh, the puns are one of fun.
I actually see more people complaining about the lack of originality in the other language versions.
How can you not love everything she does is magitech?
I worked at a shelter for a while. In the spring we got a influx of kittens. We had to name them all. Its a real bitch to keep coming up with new and interesting names, hell its hard to come up with different names at all. We used to get on book or movie kicks just to make it easy on ourselves and have a bit of fun. I imagine this is what SE does as well. How else would you like our quests to be named? Boring names? Ifrit I, II, III, IV? SE is doing the best they can in a game meant to entertain us all. At least this way some of us get a smile out of it, if only for a few times.
Translators were like: "Oh snap, we're watching TV! Let's name every single FATE as we change the channels and find pop culture references. If we are doubtful, let's go to tvtropes.org!"
PR/Marketing group is like: "No time, sell it now, too strong!"
Ohhh! I Just Died in Six Arms Tonight! It must have been something you said!!!
Erm...ahem...I'm sorry you were saying?
I also like Ice Ice Baby.
For Leviathan, how about: "Snake on the Water, Fire in its Eyes"?
I think WoW is probably responsible for making people think a wordplay equivalent of Micro$oft is supposed to be clever, though it's hardly unique to even gaming. If the Heat lost a game, it'd usually have something to do with 'extinguished' or 'flamed out' and so on. You can almost predict what the pun is going to be depending on the nature of the entities involved, and at that point it's no longer clever and you might as well just have "Heat loses" or "Titan (Hard Mode)".
King Moogle fight: "Kupo, Lupo, Kupo-di-doo"
i loved them all had a good chuckle
I love the puns / references. It's a welcome element of the game that doesn't take itself too seriously. I can't believe how obscure some of them are, too! Take my favorite, for example-- the Coerthas Highlands FATE, "What's On Your Mind?", in which you dispatch a horde of mobs named "Pure Energy". I have to believe that there aren't many people under the age of 30, and/or fans of 80's-90's synthpop, that even get this one...
Remember these guys?

I really have to applaud these writers for how deep they dug for some of these obscure nods, especially when knowing only a small fraction of the playerbase will get some of them!
I say, keep them coming!
I rather have puns than Quests that state the obvious.
Example for a Mining Quest: Mining for Gold<---- Stating the obvious and I know what I am doing before reading the dialog >.>.
I think the puns are awesome and the op should be put in the punitentiary.
BTW: Seuss did write an adult book. It's called Oh! The Places You'll Go. It was a funny look at aging and life in general. So he wasn't all about Red Fish Blue Fish or Green eggs and ham.
I find the puns to be in good fun and don't find them to be an eyesore myself, but again just my opinion, I tend not to take things too seriously either.
I will say though, I enjoyed the "I just died in 6 arms tonight" fate though, at least I think it was called that...
