I didn't say do away with numbering, actually I said Regen II within the same post, or agreed with it.
I'm fine with numbering, but when the actual function of an ability changes is where the name change comes in, which is more what I was driving at. Numbering should denote level/potency/cost, but the effect from a 1, 2, 3 should not change aside from level/potency/cost, it isn't intuitive.

Someone else already picked apart the old naming conventions, when the cure spells were freely changed between single target and party wide. The spells for most of the FF series were name Cure > Cura > Curaga > Curasa > Curaja, or Cure1...Cure5. But the effect was the same for them regardless.

In previous FF titles that have utilized separate single/multi target effects the convention has been Cure/Fire/Blizzard for single, and Curaga/Firaga/Bizzaga for multi.

When you change what a thing does you have changed the thing and should therefore change the things name.

Well, I'd like Holy Nova. Instant cast, check. No cooldown time, check. No aggro, double check. Also damages enemy, check friggin' plus. The only thing Holy Nova doesn't do is get you a beer. Imagine casting an instant cast Medica and Holy at the same time. Having to choose whether to finish casting a heal on a low-hp tank and risk getting killed in a Landslide or Weight of the Land from Titan NM? Now you don't have to! Also you can help DPS Titan's Heart and break Goals while you're at it!

If F2Ps count, there is also Thunderbolt from the Weather tree from Asda Story. Will do 20% damage to ANY monster, no questions asked. Holy smite from Eden Eternal is a ranged Holy(you don't have to get in range of a mob to AoE stun). Also Holy Light from Wizardry Online can potentally 1-shot any undead in the game if you have chaotic alignment, which would help with WP speedpulls. FATE has Shockwave which in the Defender class of magic is an non-elemental AoE knockback.

Just my two cents...

Wellspring/Fount: Your heals over the next 9 seconds increase the benefit of Wellspring, which causes your over-healing on party members to be converted into a lingering Manapool buff, lasting which increases their natural health regeneration and provides mana to any caster within the party when applying direct healing to an affected party member. Wellspring has a maximum amount of mana returned based on your healing done over those 9 seconds. Costs ~655 mana. [~535 may be better, Holy's cost as compared to Medica II]

[Generally returns 300 to 1400 mana, and aids against overhealing threat. Mana returns are averaged between healing potency dealt and the actual healing dealt. Placing a Regen on members affected with Manapool will create no threat from overhealing even after Manapool has ended, as true of most debuffs placed during a shorter buff, but no mana will be returned after that point.]

Related Changes:
Overcure would of course have to be changed, which means that the high streaming ST heals to a large close-AoE heal idea would be lost.

Problems:
It's not a usually saving grace, but merely a preparatory action. It allows for the exchange of mana, but WHM is the one that most often needs that mana. It does however have the most possible mana return during intensive healing phases, allowing you to make back over double of what was spent.

Another idea I would like: upon casting cure III you do not heal but get a buff "CureIII" lasting about 90 seconds. Using it again it just behaves like now but instant.

If they wanted it to be roughly the same, the AoE could be boosted to 8 or 10 yalms and make the overcure proc grant instant cast instead of automatic crit.

Other than that, give me Prism!

How about looking at the damaging side of WHM? I would quite like to see Quake, Tornado and Flood personally. I would have them as enemy target AOE that also buff friendlies in the area. so Quake could deal AOE damage and give allies stoneskin, Tornado aoe damage and blink buff (basically makes next three hits miss) and Flood would be AOE damage and Esuna & small aoe heal.

Or something like that

I think the general assumption is that the next CNJ job is geomancer (it's pretty low hanging fruit). So when people think of those types of abilities they start theorizing a second CNJ job.

Since we have Stone, and I'm guessing our other job will be Geomancer, I would like Soulstone. However, that has nothing to do with cure III.... I'd rather fix Cure III.

For the former, maybe work in a proc based on regen that make the current skill instant and no mana (sort of like thunder procs on BLM). That way it fits into regular healing as a mana-saver.

In the latter, it throws a medium-heavy heal and a short term regen. Has a ~1minute cooldown. Lets ya deal with spike damage with two advantages - it's quick and gets out there and it doesn't generate as much instantaneous hate as a really big heal would.

I hate cure 3, even though it was my go to spell in 11. SE ruined it for me! Its like the bastard child no one wants to talk about. So they can get rid of it for all I care, I dont know many healers that use it. Its not even on my bar. Instead I would like something useful for 2.1 this year. Re-raise! or aoe stoneskin or shell (I dont like that its supposedly built into protect, its been in every game, why not this one? I feel naked as a healer without it), hell I will take anything more useful than Cure 3!

I would rather have a spell that just shot baby bats flying on the tails of small animated Nayan cat rainbows that had utterly no use what so ever because at very least then after beating a particularly hard boss I could at least celebrate appropriately it would still be more useful than "Cure" III

I'd like to see a HoT proc based ability but it should probably come from Medica II's as Regen is a job ability. That'd make a class skill useless for the 2nd job unless they expand its usage somehow.

Think I'd rather see a second job grown from Cnj that gets these and is more damage focused.

The first magic skill that came to mind was Arise. A resurrection spell that recovers all HP of a targeted party member, increases their MP regeneration for 15 seconds, and removes sickness from the target. The skill has a 5 minute recast.

A real Cure III would be nice. What I mean by that is either one of two things;

Increase the radius and decrease the MP cost of the current spell.

Change it to single target, increase the potency and MP cost. Even sit it on a cooldown if needed, so that it's somewhere between Cure II and Benediction.

While I rarely find good places to use C3, it does have one or two uses. I also wish that F3 was just better than F1, I wish that freeze was less suck (except in one place). It will be nice if they fix it some day, but I don't see it happening soon. Maybe we can stage a C3 boycott akin to the bus boycotts until a change is made. . . though no one would notice if it was never cast, so nevermind?

I'd think it'd be neat if they made Cure III consume Regens. The remaining heal leftover in regen then could be applied to Cure III's potency (Hopefully potency will be more than Cure II's). Make it single target and up it's cost and slap a CD onto it, because you could be healing for quite a bit with this mechanic. If not that then I'd be satisfied with a 7y-10y radius with MP cost of: 455mp.

just add a bonus healing debuff for 10-20% (or equivalent to % of debuff from bosses) for 30s (stackable with divine seal) . The debuff cannot be recast for another 30s (thus granting some sort of diminishing returns). This bonus healing debuff may grant another purposes for whm compared to shielding provided by scholars without overlapping each others unique signature.
