So basically you're crying because you can't max out multiple jobs all at once... do you have any idea how stupid of a business model it would be to allow your customers to finish everything all at once? That's what leads to "I'm bored" and quitting till the next expansion.
I'm even fine with the myth cap... but at least give us job specific coil lockouts!
I would love to tank for group 2 in my FC and be a backup DPS for Group 1 (for example). As it is now, there is little reason to play a second class after you have your DL gear and its a bummer. This game really lacks on content but allow us to experience it multiple times each week will really help with the boredom issue.
Its still 4 months to deck out in full i90, theres no reason we cant have split lockouts.
Sorry OP, I can not believe how many people are not getting the point. Seriously, there needs to be an IQ check to use the internet =\
Once you deck out ALL classes in darklight/2 star crafted gear, you can only level ONE of them with mythology gear - and it takes 2-3 weeks for a single piece. While you are gearing up ONE class, your others are sitting, unused because they already have the best possible gear besides mythology.
EVERY other MMO gets around this issue by letting you play multiple characters, letting you gear up all classes in the best gear at THE SAME TIME. This game, which the MAIN feature is that you DON'T have to make alternate characters do play different classes - but there's a catch! That's actually the only way to be able to play them to their full extent! And this game has two subscription models - one for the standard one character per server, and one for 8 characters per server. Essentially forcing you to pay more if you want to gear up multiple classes. *Don't* take that last sentence out of context, please. I know some people will.
FFXIV is one of the few MMOs that allows you to be multiple classes on the same character. In the majority of MMOs, your character is stuck on one class from start to finish, so I don't really understand what you mean when you say "something you can do in any other MMO." That's simply not true.
Ok... I'm extremely confused by what this thread is talking about. I know it's some endgame stuff, and while I am quite enjoying my tradeskills, I'd like to know what's coming in my future since I intend to 50/max level everything I possibly can - I love dat grind!
Basically...
If you have One Character - that character can level 50 every job. The best set of gear in the game is the Mythology gear, and from what it looks like you are only able to obtain it as a ONE TIME deal. (I'm assuming that it's a one time quest chain and you have to do it on just one job?)
If you would like to do this "Coil" dungeon, it has a 1 week lockout/cool down per character - regardless of which job you decide to use that week?
Did I get this right?
----text limit---
---additional text---
....and the OP is mad because they can't switch jobs on one character to a job specific cooldown timer, or get the mythology gear on another job?
Hmmm... that sounds like standard rules for MMO as it's felt for the one's I've played ((Aion, EQ, WoW)) It would be nice tho, if they added an additional quest line to get another set of mythology gear -I'd certainly invest the grind time for it if that was an option.
oh nice.. for a second there i thought this was a serious thread.. then i clicked it and found it was another myth complaint thread..
i bought AF2 feet and hands for my SCH and now i have not bought anything since while i wait for enough to get relic+1 i have no difficulty getting in coil.. so why you think you need full 90 for coil i dont know.. full DL is an okay starter.. and if that isnt enough get HQ crafted gear and deck it out with materia..
or play another game til 2.1 and then gear yourself in crystal tower gear which i believe is gonna be I80?
While I've thought of this myself as I consider buying myth gear (should I *really* buy the PLD gear or will I like DRG more once I've leveled it?), I then think, well what the heck will I DO with that gear anyway, just stand around looking cool? Speedrunning more dungeons to the point of bland oblivion?
I think more important than gearing up multiple classes is offering far more challenging, satisfying content for level 50. Fights that insist on excellent mechanics and are more forgiving to gear, so you would be fine with your AK gear and any old weapon. I for one stopped even trying to get AF2 because it requires hours and hours of extremely boring and unchallenging gameplay.
What's your point? Other than counter whining, and hamfisted sarcasm.
Here's the thing, you can maybe get two pieces of myth gear/month max. It doesn't just happen "not quickly".
You need about 4900 TSoM for a full set. At 300/week that comes to 16 weeks, or 3.5 months. That's assuming you grind out all 300 every week.
I know, I know, you really want to be that "this generation of entitled gamers..blah blah blah in my day games sucked but they made me a man" guy. But it isn't relevant here. If you started today you wouldn't get a full AF+1 set until what? January of next year? How is that an acceptable time-frame to suit up for CURRENT content in a game with gradually added content?
What is the point? The next raid is actually EASIER than the current raid. So why be such a hard ass over this stuff? We already have Coil for that long term goal.
It probably has been said already, but you can do all content with Relic + Darklight gear. So all you really need is time (to grind Philo Tomes). If you have gil it's even better as you can use crafted i70 gear, that in some cases can be better than i90 gear.
I'd argue it's too easy to gear up alts. As I tank WP/AK I'm collecting tons of dungeon drops and tomes for my alts. When I hit 50 on my war I rocked that AF set while I slowly accumulated i55 and i60 drops as well as tomes for eventual i70. This took time. But when my monk hits 50? whatever I can't just throw tomes to get instant i70 gear will be filled with AK i60. Boom nearly coil ready fresh out of the leveling box. The fact is you can gear your alts while on your overly geared main. What other game (ffxi excluded) lets you do that? Gearing alts is easy. This game is honestly one of the most alt friendly mmos I've played.
Somehow the armoury system is completely pointless when it doesn't work the way some people want it to.
It's just so easy to ignore the benefits of it when it doesn't let you be the best at everything, at the same time (at least a while).
The only thing I'd agree with is if they let you run Coil multiple times, but only get loot the first time.
Do what other games make you do and roll an entirely new character instead. You can do lockout raids and myth stone caps twice then.
Being able to "deck out" all your jobs at once is an absolutely HORRIBLE idea. Focusing on one job at a time is the way it should be or spread it out and gear all jobs at a slower pace, if that is what you want. You don't even need to be "deck out" to do Coil anyways, a relic weapon and mostly Darklight is all you need, which are far TOO EASY to get.
Also, it is entirely possible to "deck out" all your jobs without relying on myth tombs by using materia crafted gear, but you have to put some effort into it. If you're expecting it to just be handed to you then you deserves to be shot in the face.
No point gearing up multiple classes when you can only do content that requires the gear once per week.
It's not a one-shot quest line, it's dungeon farming for tokens with a weekly cap. So, it's possible to obtain the mythology AF/relic +1 for every job.
The thing is, with the current cap (300 tokens per week), it will take you 122 weeks (yeah, 2 years and 4 months) to do it (without taking jewelry and belts into account, as well as possible new jobs which will be added inbetween).
For a armor set that will be replaced in 4 months, it seems a little overkill to me.
The alt character argument is a little asinine when SE do in fact encourage players to stay on 1 character (like making it impossible to send mail to alts for example).
There is another option for those like the OP. We did this back in the FFXI days with those content lockouts of various types.
Join a good FC. No one ever uses the 'need' button, it is an instant boot from the FC. You can either use a points system or priority list. Then for drops you can spend points / high priority gear for any job that will give the biggest benefit to you. This way you can get DRG chest on turn 1 then on turn 2 get WHM head. Your WHM doesn't even have to touch coil, and this drop will do more for your WHM and thus your FC than the ability to need on DRG neck instead. mind = blown
This is possible because... You don't need all lvl 90 gear for turn 1 - 4 (and probably not 5 but no one can really say atm). Now you are out of darklight on multiple jobs in some areas. This goes for spending your myth too. Spend it on pants for one job, or save it for a body on another. Once you have a job geared well enough to clear the content you do whichever will give the most benefit to your character / FC.
Every drop or token spent this way will improve you for your group on multiple jobs. This is better for your FC than having 1 full 90 job and the rest in 60-70.
This notion that you can't play a class that's sub-iLvl90 geared is ridiculous. DL and a relic is more than enough to clear any content we currently have. I play Summoner, Scholar, Monk, and Paladin all the time without any issues.
Everyone is completely missing the real issue here.
If you level up a PLD on 1 character and a WHM on a 2nd character you can play both at the same time, play all the content on both jobs, and get gear on both jobs.
If you level up PLD and WHM on the same character you basically wasted your time because you can only do the content on 1 of the jobs and only get the gear on 1 of the jobs.
This means that it's much better for anyone playing the game to have a different character for each job and if you get multiple jobs on 1 character you screw yourself over.
Being able to have multiple level 50 jobs on one character is supposed to be a unique selling point of the game that makes it better, but the way they set it up it makes the game worse.
No this issue has been talked over multiple times. Right now there is no content after Coil. So why would SE let you burn through the only high tier endgame that exists?
I bet as soon as more stuff will be added to the game the restrictions will be lifted for coil etc.
Make a second character like you would in any other game, problem solved.
I think it's a blessing in disguise, honestly. It's hard to run the same thing over and over and over without getting burned out. It'll get better as more raid content comes out. :D Only a month and more content.
SE, a good idea would be have the highest-tiered raid zone(s) locked to a character, while have the lower tiered raid zones locked based on class, not character.
You can gear everything but not at once.
How come people do not understand the most basic aspect of an MMORPG is to stall?
How are they gonna make you play their game for a long time without slowing your progress somehow?
Everything is expected and in my oppinion they have done it the right way.
Just learn to play by the rules of the game, not your own rules.
wow.....you cant put a cap on myth tomes per job, because then you could essentially gear up each job 9 times faster, because nothing is preventing you from capping two weeks of myth on every job, and then buying every single piece that is 495 or less, for 1 job, so in two weeks you can do what is now currently like 2 and a half months of capping. Thats why you cannot change cap to class/job.
And stfu with the cries that there isnt enough content, theres only 2 dungeons and a coil blah blah blah. Unfortunately, Crystal Tower was unable to be released at launch, even though it was "supposed" to be. Right now its difficult to gear more than 1 job right now because of lockouts and myth caps. But what you seem to forget is that Crystal Tower was originally going to be existent just for that reason. Instead of having alt jobs stuck in AK and DL gear, we "could" have been able to have an alt job decked out in ilvl 80 gear, without a lockout timer at all, giving us free reign to gear all of our alt jobs.
Just hang in there, once crystal tower comes out, you will all lvl alt jobs, and gear them when you arent doing coil and capping myths, I BET ON IT.
OP no one is stopping you from armoring all the jobs. And your complaint is not valid, because your rant is about the sealing every game has, not what you are allowed or not allowed to do.
FFXI: 6 months in sky for a pair of pants, 1 year in sea for one necklace, 3 months camping for a pair of gloves..... salvage for 2 years for one body.
WoW: one full years before one a weapon i needed ever dropped, and 6 people looted on it!
I know they seem the same, but are not. Not allowing you would mean that once you get 1 body for 1 job, you can no longer obtain any other body armor for other jobs. Sealing caps weekly progress so people do not rush and burn out.
"DL gear is enough for all content!", "Nothing prevents you from gearing all your jobs, just split the tomestones evenly!", "Why do you NEED to gear all your jobs in the best gear?" and all the responses along those lines are not getting it.
It's true. You can do just fine in mediocre gear. You can split your myth stones and spend 5 years gearing all your jobs. You do not need to put materia in your crafted gear, you don't need to upgrade out of your AF gear and level 30 jewelry before you queue for Garuda HM and you don't need to unlock your cross class skills. However, some people like to perfect their characters. Those people don't like it when they are held back from using their alt classes to their full potential. It's not about being handed stuff, it's about letting us do the grind again for another class if we want to - without having to roll a new character - because having it that way just makes the entire armory system moot.
Almost no other MMORPG prevents you from maintaining alts that are equally progressed to your main if you have a lot of free time to play (only EVEs one skill trained per account policy comes to mind, if it's still that way). The armory system is brilliant in many ways, but it just isn't working for people that are truly passionate about alts.
I agree remove the caps on myth and before you say I rushed I was a 1.0 player. I have nothing to do so by removing the myth caps I would than have something to keep me busy. There are other players from 1.0 and of course there are the new players to 2.0 and maybe they only have 3 jobs they like and want to gear up. This is only level 50 content the level cap will increase and honestly unless they plan on never going past the level 50 cap there is no reason for a cap yet. If this was level 99 I could see a cap on the best gear but really there isnt any reason other than a lack of content in this game. They carried over 1.0 data, they made it easy as hell to level but than tell you, you cant gear up those classes you have to wait and wait.
Ahhh! Thank you for clarifying this for me. It's a hard to obtain gear set "because" of weekly token cap. Well, it sounds like any other game that has evolving content. I might tackle a 2 year and 4 month challenge just to have done it. OP really shouldn't be bitching about this and just make another toon if they want to avoid the cap.
The issue is that the armory system is great but once it gets to endgame progression it's actually pointless.
All alts on one character:
- 300 myth cap per week
- Can run coil once a week (the inflexible nature of coil statics due to weekly lockout means it's pretty rare to run on multiple classes anyways, unless if they're the same role)
All alts on different characters:
- 300 myth cap per character
- Run coil on each character
From an endgame progression perspective, it's better to ignore the armory system entirely and just play FFXIV like it was an mmo which forces alts. That's the issue. An entire system which should be a major feature for the game is actually better to be ignored if you care about progression. What people are asking for is for endgame progression to take the armory system into account. FFXIV's point caps and lockouts are what you would expect in a game which has one class per character, not from a game which has multiple classes per character.
It is kind of dumb that you can't farm separate myth pools and coil lockouts per char. I mean if you made a new character and leveled them to 50 then you could. You could run BCB on both, farm myth on both, and buy myth gear on both. You also get an extra 300k from story quests.
There is no real advantage in this game to having multiple 50's on one character. Sure you can switch, but why would you need to? Leveling an alt is the same amount of work. The only gotcha is you have to level requirement classes twice.
I leveled both my tanks to 50, but they mostly share the same gear so I'm cool with that. But I've considered rolling a new toon for a DPS class so I can cap myth on both every week.
It's a cap on progression so the gap between people with long play times (e.g. 40 hrs a week) don't progress too far ahead of those with less time (e.g. 10 hrs a week).
You can bring a different job into Coil each week if you want. You are just not allowed to gear them up in parallel.
So the op is just complaining about a cap on progression, but want to make it sound dramatic, i.e. "Square Enix is going against their own design".
Remember, the armoury system allows one character to switch into different jobs, but it is still just one character. You can be a salesperson and a graphics designer at the same time, but you still can only buy one pack of beer when they limit it to "one pack per person". You won't go and say "hey I bought that pack as a salesperson, now I'm just buying a pack as a graphics designer"---but this is what you're doing right now.
It's not a gap on anything, you can level an alt as in a new character entirely, poof cap bypassed. And the only extra work you are doing to do so is leveling swiftcast twice or w/e cross class skill you need for what you are leveling.
Some of you are really missing the point.. Personally I haven't bothered getting my second class to 50 and have been focusing on crafting classes instead because I know that I won't actually get to use my 2nd class to do anything rewarding. With the current system in place it really is useless to try and actually play more than one class for progression so why even bother? Even as a player who only plays for 2-3 hrs a night during the weekdays I am experiencing this problem so how casual do I have to get in order to be able to play 2 jobs simultaneously in the same week? I agree 100% with the above posters who state that caps in this game are currently useless and do nothing but hinder peoples' ability to play the game since the level cap will eventually be raised. The cap increase to 450 is not enough in my opinion, either separate the caps by job or get rid of them all together, otherwise this precious armory system really is useless garbage.
Square Enix does not want people who play 40 hours a week to have full iLv90 for all jobs before the next patch while others who play 10 hrs a week has only geared 1 job.
Why not? There is really no logical reasoning behind this that I can see. Are we trying to make the people who play less feel better about themselves or something? I pay for a game and I want to play it, is it really more complicated than that? When the level cap is raised all this gear that takes months of work to get will become useless, why gate it so early when there is a huge number of players who are already hitting this gate within 5-6 hrs a week?
Ask producer Yoshida.
One reason that was stated is that it creates a divide between players (as can be seen in WoW where very geared players look down on gearing players when they grind their daily valor through the dungeon finder).
If you want anything further than that, you should perhaps invest your energies into organizing a petition for producer Yoshida to explain it further, or simply to petition to have the caps and lockouts changed.
In other words, no more "discussion" where people of opposite opinion exchange ideas, but rather simply a "petition" where only people who agree get together to show how strong that feeling is among the player community.
