SE:
Make. This. Happen.
Why not just make materials drop in end game raids and non crafting players have the option of simply taking the materials they have to an npc like rowena and trade it for gear? Meanwhile, crafters with those mats will have an option to perform a risky craft with decent chance to fail and make the exact same copy of the item themselves but this time the equipment can be sold (npc crafted is bind on get, player crafted is bind on equip). SE can decide if the materials are tradable or not and what form of currency will the sale of these gears/mats will be based on, myth or gil.
I really do thought that yoship isnt making crafting very relevant to endgame players because he doesnt want players who are absolutely not interested in crafting get gouged by crafters and I kinda like it that way. Let people who constantly play the market and crafts mingle with people who do the same.
I will like to see gathering rare and cool materials from all over Eorzea...from the highest mountains to the deepest dungeons...
To add cool features to earned equips. (DL or Relics)
"oh hey, I found this rainbow meteorite half-digested in this ogre...COOL! Lets use it to add an extra spike to your spear."
Honestly there is a very simple solution for the nay-sayers saying loot should ONLY come from dungeons:
Link high-end craft projects to dungeons - for example, you could have some component that costs 450 tomestones that is used to make a darklight chestpiece, or you can buy a pre-made chestpiece for 875 tomes. Another idea might be to have "broken" relics and blue gear drop in the same way that broken stuff drops for vintage gear, (and make sure the item is non-markettable) so the only means to obtain the item is to do the dungeon and perform the repairs.
The reason something needs to be done, is that crafting right now is a self supporting market; most crafting materials, go into making gear used to make components for gear used in crafting. The combat end of the market detaches, because there is no need, demand or potential for high level crafting; that market is the sole domain of allagan and AF+1, neither of which can be built, bought or fitted with materia
I agree and make the Ilvl 70s be ingredients for the ilvl 75 blues which then in turn need to be used for the ilvl 80 purplz
