Anyone who can't bear to take an evening off from playing once per week or so, should probably consider seeing a therapist. There are days I don't play when the servers are up and running.
And as far as the value of the subscription fee? It was never guaranteed to be for 100% uptime. SE knows that people don't play 24/7. A lot of people will only play a few hours on weekdays. They factor this into their fee as well as planned and unplanned server downtime. I suspect that if they did guarantee 100% uptime, the fee would be a lot more. Perhaps they should charge an hourly fee, or have a meter run while you are logged on, and bill at the end of the month.
Just go to a JP server, that's closet to your timezone anyways. And there are plenty of english players on there. They changed the previous time because it befitted 2/3 timezones (NA/EU) Not to mention that their population is significantly higher than yours. Quit complaining because you chose the wrong server to play on.
I don't mind the times they use to do maintenance, even though it is prime time where i'm at in the states. What I do mind is that it happens more than once weekly, without any information as to what they are having maintenance on. If it's really an emergency, then explain what it is, or else it's not an emergency and can wait. Spend more resources creating new content and bringing it to us faster. That is where your time and money should be going SE.
Calls Americans entitled for asking for maintenance change while asking for maintenance change himself.

well sometimes we all have to deal with it.
Is not that they have maintenance everday.
I, too, understand that maintenance needs to happen.
I do not, however, understand why it has to happen 3 nights in a row.
I agree it's horrible...it basically screws me once a week...
Here is the thing. It deends on the server zone.
Maybe I was being a bit too cynical, but that's a conditioned behavior on my part. Part of my job requires me to pay very close attention to detail. When something is changed, make sure the change agrees with everything touching it before throwing the contraption back together and hoping it works.
Yeah...this has been two days in a row though...that sucks!!!! How much damn maintenance does this game need???
Does anyone do anything else besides playing FFXIV all day long? Try getting some sleep, take a shower, watch a movie, play another game, and before you know it, maintenance is over.
The whole reason OP is upset is because he does all those things, and has a few hours every evening to play, and can't. And I think his main complaint -- and I get it, even though maintenance is for me 11pm-2am local -- is that he's paying for a service, and he's missing out on that service about 33% of the time right now. If your mobile worked 66% of the time and someone said "hey why don't you just chat face to face and live in the real world a bit" you would not be happy with their helpful advice.
On a side note, impacting maintenance does not need to happen. It's the fault of the product and the service architecture that we have to have it. That said, if we have to have it, let's have it once a week tops, hmm? On whatever the least played day is, please.
No problem, and I appreciate you not taking what I said personally. Basically, when a maintenance is done or when a patch/update is implemented, they have no true way of telling how well it will actually work until the mass player-base gets their hands into it. So every now and then, we end up with repeated maintenance intervals like we are having now. It's just the nature of the beast. Though, so far they are doing things much better than they did in FFXI. There were times in that game where maintenance would be near daily for up to a couple of weeks; and before Rise of the Zilart came out, dear lord, lets just forget there was a time before Zilart xD
NO!
Life outside of FF, wtf is this heresy!
The OP points out his location and explained why the maintenance schedule is bad for him... but what he fails to realize is it's always 7pm to 10-11pm somewhere. Where I live (East Coast USA), maintenance starts at 2am. For pacific players, it starts at 11pm. That cuts out a huge portion of the West Coast players' playing time. These maintenance takes place in the morning for European players and Midday for the Japanese players. Someone, somewhere, is going to be unhappy no matter when 'scheduled' maintenance happens. Plus, there are lots of people with an irregular work schedule. I'm personally just glad that it's scheduled and not random... at least I know when to anticipate it.
Move down 2 hrs and another part of the world gets screwed. So no matter which way, someone has to take a hit.
This reminds me of my WOW days, where they always have maintenance every single week at 7pm-12am (GMT+8). Maintenance notice is usually given a few days before, so think of it as a mandatory break from gaming. Use that time to gym, go out on a date with gf etc etc. I don't know about you but a mandatory break is good at some point every week.
