Thing is, I don't think its confirmed you earn em with a respec, merely that they are only active while you are rank 10 whatever.

I don't even use my chocobo. There a pita to have out in fates, their a pita to have out when you want to que for a dungeon, and you don't really need them. There is nothing you need to solo that is hard enough to warrant needing to summon the chocobo.
I mean is there a legit use for them?
I would like some confirmation on this. Do you really have to get your Choco to Lv10? I mean, it kind of make sense.
that would be me posting the tank barding which was posted by another guy in the forums which i posted in pads.. lol!

I think i saw somewhere before that if you change GC you can get a new Chocobo? not sure though cant remember well im raising
the dps tree for my chocobo but would really want the tank barding though T.T
I don't have a problem with the barding tied to spec. I think it's great. I don't want WHM barding chocoboes running around with 10D spec. That's just chaos.
However, such a rigid system needs complementary systems. In particular:
- Chocobo re-spec on par with player character re-spec
- Multiple chocobos perhaps tied to housing, have to return to change chocobos
- more hybrid bardings
I'd actually love to see a free-slot skill chocobo system rather than skills tied to ranks. So we can have things like:But that's perhaps asking for too much. :3
- 8 slots of combat skills, 1 slot for bag expansion skill, 1 slot for crafter buff aura
- 3 slots of crafter buff aura (control, craftsmanship, CP) will activate the crafter barding
- 3 slots of gatherer buff aura will activate the caravan barding
- having at least 1 combat, 1 bag expansion, 1 gatherer, 1 crafter aura will activate a special adventurer's barding
- other combinations for special bardings that makes sense
So from this pic the only one missing is the BLM barding. My guess is there was originally supposed to be a 4th skill tree for chocobos. A BLM like offensive caster but it got removed for some reason. Maybe it was too OP or something. I know since they cant hold hate it would have been nice to have a chocobo that could stand back and cast spells.
Sadly because it "looks cool." In video games rule of cool > Practicality. People always argue "This isn't real life." but I love me some believability. It's something I can overlook because gaming is saturated with it but to me practicality IS cool. Despite how much we've disagreed in the past. I agree with you on this one. Still, chocobos are supposed to be magical birds so.. Also I am curious where the rest of the barding is?
Well my bird is screwed.. Seems like many of us spec'd into more than one tree. Great, thanks for letting us know this SE. Why couldn't they just add them as tome purchases. :/
I mean, what were y'all expecting? To be able to equip your WHM barding on your Tank chocobo? C'mon now...
And here I was thinking this feature couldn't possibly get any worse. Silly me.
It's utter mockery!
Hmm, given the tank and dps bardings that have been shown in this thread so far.. I have to say I am rather disappointed. I thought they were suppose to be job specific bardings (whm, blm, pld, etc.). Instead we get generic looking tank, dps armor. Haven't seen the healer one yet, but if it isn't Whm barding then it isn't what I was lead to believe. And judging from the other pictures, I have no reason to believe it will be Whm barding at this time. Even though they have already shown Blm, Whm, Drg, and other job barding in the Tour of Eorzea videos.
I have only one thing to say.
Lame.
Edit: Just saw the pic with the Whm and Blm armor. So.. now I'm curious. How does the game differentiate from the Blm and "Drg" bardings considering there is only one dps path for chocobos?
I had no idea these were even implemented into the game yet :O I honestly don't understand all the negative talk in this thread, this is awesome news.
You're not understanding FFXIV. You are more than a Paladin. You are every job. Some things are designed to take a very long time to complete and by the time you reach lvl 10 Choco, you will have more than 1 job at 50. So if you're a paladin already, level up a couple of DPS jobs with your choco tanking for you. This is how you earn your matching tank choco barding for your paladin.
in XI we had colored chocobos, you could match your mage job (shameless self promoting a pic I did 5 years ago)

All this aside, chocobo levelling is insanely grindy given the terrible exp yield and more importantly the fact that you can't use your chocobo when in df queue or a full party -- so you almost never use when fate-ing and you can't level them while waiting for a df to pop. You have to just decide to level your chocobo like it's its own game.
I'd rather they give me a reason to even use my chocobo instead of adding more useless barding.
My point is, you can't respec at all, to obtain them. If you put points into more than one tree. What are you supposed to do? You're completely stuck. If you want a specific barding, and put points into something you may have thought was more practical, you're SoL.
Also people like matching chocobos. But why would a white mage, choose a healing chocobo? Why would a dragoon choose a DPS?
I'd love to get a dragoon bird for my DRG, but I went tank, then healer because it was appropriate. I mean the GC barding is heavy armor, even if your chocobo is a healer, so that defeats the thematic limit excuse right there. Should only DPS/Tanks be able to wear the Behemoth armor too?
So from what I've gathered most people didn't even know these bardings were available. Yet rather than be happy about a new little cosmetic bonus, they're angry because the thing they didn't know about anyway sucks. Hmm.
