When does the Starlight Celebration begin?
Why do ppl care so much about real world holiday events in mmos? Never really understood this...
I wasn't impressed in the least with this event either and the first one was terrible also. Like the first event none of the items can be stored in the inn chest either which is another reason not to hold onto any of the fluff when space is at a premium.
It would overload the already overloaded instance servers. It would be the return of day-long queues for even the main instanced fights.
Why even bother with them in the real world? ;)
2 months.
Ooh, complex subject. I can't disagree. But on a lighter note, I like the ghost costume. Reminds me of the Ghosts N Stuff video. It's also nice that different races get different faces.(Edit: Oops, that's not the case.)
I thought it was cute little event and I enjoyed it.
Don't get me wrong. I think there is always room for improvement, i.e. more event quests, more costumes, etc but I can't say I was that upset with the event.
I'd rather they focus more on getting 2.1 out in a timely fashion than focusing on the Halloween event.
I think it's odd that they keep putting old seasonal event items in when they said:

Though I'll probably be more annoyed if they decide to stop giving out all the old items before easter, since those are the only events I didn't get everything from.
THANK YOU!
NCSoft titles are godawful grindfests where more budget went into "purdy graffix" and cash shop bling than it did actual content. (except for City of Heroes but that's because NCSoft pretended it never existed)
And speaking of CoX, they had a damn good Halloween event.
Trick or Treat granted you NPC costumes as a treat or a fight with witches and zombies as a trick. There was a FATE-like event called Zombie Apocalypse where the sky turned red and people teamed up to defeat zombies and with each wave the zombies grew in size and number with the last wave being demon lords.
And the newest event they put in for halloween was a haunted house mission where the final boss was a massive cyborg zombie.
Unfortunately it was shut down last year, but their seasonal events were amazing. I miss it so much.
Come on and miss out on a chance to get drunk? i think not =P
Anyway I enjoyed that quest. I laughed my ass off near the end with the Gourd thing... reminded me of Charlie Brown and I know it was supposed to in a way. It was nice and the decorations are kick ass all over Ul'dah. *tips hat to Yoshi-p* Good man to do stuff like this when he's busy with future Content and Being one of the Leads for the Final Fantasy team
Can I have your eyeball candies! :O
I honestly don't expect great seasonal events until Housing is introduced... I'll be disappointed if we can't set up our own decorations and do things like leaving random houses presents or something...
I guess it would be nice to see things like a unique run of Haukke Manor for Halloween, or Stone Vigil for Christmas, but there is no way I expect that from the very first set of events... Maybe when the game has been out for a year and they've got a steady number of subscribers around... Honestly though, you can do those events yourself... First thing I suggested after finishing this event was Haukke Manor in the gear and it doesn't look like I was alone in that thought...
The entire population of Ul'dah is wearing ghost outfits.
What's not to love?
Edit: ....are wearing ghost outfits?

This, a thousand times this!
Seriously, the entitlement wafting around this topic with all the complaints about it. For a start why have Halloween in Eorzea at all, it's not Earth, even on Earth, it's not a universal event (I can hardly call it a festival or celebration considering the origins of it). Why can't people just be happy that something extra was done? The BGM change is nice, and the re-decoration of the cities is extensive, well done SE. Honestly, I think some people need to adjust their perspective regarding the importance of seasonal events like this.
I'm all for fun stuff, but I do hope we get some way to expand our inventories as we get more and more Tchotchkes cluttering up our inventory.
Events are usually grind fest to acquire useless items (but considered as must have !).
I do reckon they working hard on 2.1 . But they should have the tools to produce more than a 20 minute event. It doesn't take much to make an average event.
Even F2P MMOs have way better event. We could have an easy boss with fashion loots and rare mount a la WoW or season loot on mob such as candy to transform.
It doesn't take a genius to make that and it should not impact the development of 2.1 by much.
This event was really fun! I thought it was great!
Beware the great pumpkin!
But after last year I'm NOT eating those cookies.
DON'T eat the cookies!
Did it right?! They're doing it right! Seriously, I haven't played for a while but last I heard, they had some kind of old schood pixel platformers and all kind of stuff. The winter event last year was impressive, featuring platform games, a pvp battleground and a guitar hero styled competition. The stuff GW2 puts out is impressive. I have no expectations that FF14 will do this, GW2 excels in this area.
I think these mediocre events are acceptable now in the beginning of the game, I feel as if the game is one of the most incomplete mmorpg releases I've experienced (although I still like it... :P ) and I doubt seasonal events are high on their priority list.
To be honest, I'd prefer that the development team used their resources on creating new stuff for upcoming patches (like new armors, dungeons, primal battles) than waste time on events that will be over in 2 weeks.
GW2 has a separate crew entirely dedicated on creating that type of content, that's why they can afford to do some big events.
While I would like to see more interesting events too you have to see the bigger picture here, with all the problems they had at launch and the recurring bugs appearing every patch, I think they have their hands full at the moment trying to set things right and working.
For being a pay to play game I expected a much better Halloween event. Coming from GW2 which was buy to play it had amazing events with a lot to do. Hopefully there is more in store for this event as it comes closer to Halloween.
I look at it this way. The more they are focusing on these events now is less focus on getting the big patch out / fixing important stuff. I'm willing to let events be underwhelming until next year.
Comparing one product to another is pointless unless you are a game critic. If you would rather have a different product it us best to go and purchase that. Its like those idiots that want a Ferrari and try turning their Camaro into one with a kit. It's never the same, you will NEVER be satisfied. Best to go out and get your shinny Ferrari. Some of us like this just the way it is.
Love the new event decor, tasteful and fun without shoving it down your throat like GW2, dog did I do that!? :)
I had fun with it, even if it didn't take overly long. I had lots of fun just running around in my little ghost costume looking at all the shiny decorations!
Still, I feel like there could be more to the event. I think maybe for now it's just the bare bones of it and as more things are added to the game, like player housing, more things will be added to the holiday events over time.
I did enjoy the quests a lot, they were very funny and cute! The decorations around town were also great. I would have liked more variety in costumes though, or perhaps a spooky minion. A ghost costume is cool and all, but there are so many monsters out there in Eorzea to pull outfit inspirations from! Maybe more of that stuff will come when we get vanity slots or something similar.
They always have room to add more if and when they have more time. As everyone else said, they are probably pretty busy getting pvp, housing, and more pve content ready for us.

WISH I COULD DO THIS ON ALL SEVERS
Seasonal events are one-off content. They should also be available to all players. To get A reward should not take a lot of time investment.
That being said, I really like the way GW2 handled seasonal events. However the rewards were mostly aesthetic, and without an active vanity system, XIV can't do this the same way. I do hope that weapon/armor skin options which are themed are added when Vanity goes live. As long as the basic content can be completed w/o grinding, I don't mind if getting multiple pieces / repeats takes a while.
The players have spoken. Yoshi, bring back the bells.
We all want the bells back.
I would also like point out that SE is continually missing amazing opportunities.
This game has so much more potential than people ever gave it credit. Yet, time and time again I notice how SE is completely missing the mark. With all of the beautiful art and character models, this event could have been so much more than it was.
I understand the devs are crunching to get content ready and out, but I'm already hearing how many of my friends are getting tired and bored of logging into the same thing over and over every day. These seasonal events are more than a flavor of cute outfits in our armoire, but a nice breath of fresh air from the mundane farm for tomes.
This is SE's game to lose, and it is starting to slip out of their hands. Not trying to doomsay, but a simple warning in hopes that SE wakes up and produces content to keep the game in their favor before they lose everything.
What happened to the pumpkin heads? They're like neon orange.
I figured that the seasonal events are lacking because they didn't plan ahead on implementing fancy seasonal things for this year, because they were redesigning the entire game and had more important things to do with the budget. It is disappointing though, I got everything from the Halloween event in thirty minutes. :/
I'm fine with the event being this way. I had fun, had a few laughs, and ran Haukke with a pumpkin on my head (I was tanking, so I didn't go with the ghost outfit, haha)! Seeing the victory poses with my character having a huge glowing pumpkin face was priceless xD
I don't know, I think plenty of effort was put into the quest, the writing was everything I've come to expect from a Square game. Yeah, maybe another quest would have been nice, but as has been said the team is busy working on patch content and the first expansion so we can't expect grand sweeping storylines just yet. I wasn't underwhelmed at all, honestly, and look forward to repeating it on my main character.
