You know that is a very good point, the Garleans deal with weird futuristic technologies with magic from what I understand.
Maybe they really are sucking the elements out of crystals to make some sort of fuel source to build an army to take over the world.

And I seriously doubt mako will have anything to do with them :p

The empire probabky drains the crystal formations from Mor Dhona to turn them to energy.
And that's what those reactors are for.

To all the people asking how we knew about these in alpha. They released a screen shot of those towers BEFORE alpha.

Weapons of Mass Mist Production OoooooOOoo.... Honestly I wish SE had thought of this kind of story elements BEFORE releasing the game. Now when they'll try to explain them I can already see myself going "MMhmm I'm sure they're just that dear" to the NPC going all dramatic over them.

It's entirely possible it's something similar to mako reactors. Besides, we getting deaspected crystals...

It's obviously well known to residents of Ul'Dah as the area they are in is aptly named "Blu-fog" for the blue fog the machines emit. I personally think they are being used to generate cerulium "Ul'Dahs equivilant of oil it seems"

You obviously dont read my blogs.. I posted the mako reactors in the desert a few months ago :)

They're definitely power stations of some sort. The green smoke is the same kind that comes from the garlean airships (see R46 storyline quest for clear view of it). As far as we know, only the garleans know how to use this kind of technology, so one is left to assume that this is a garlean outpost.

There just more of the good stuff we are blocked off from! :/

That place IS called Cerilium fields on the map

Seems they are indeed Cerulium factories of some sorts. Gridania refused to use it to light there city lamps because it is "Devoid" of elementals. Considering that everything has elementals in it Cerulium is indeed a strange substance.

they're blocked off because they dont do anything nore even properly implemented. They're just normal objects like the Christmas trees and you end up walking through them.

I'm sure they'll get their use and no doubt be something to do with the Garlean.
