Why you should buy the PS3 version and not the PC version of this game

Ummm lawl~! If it hasn't been said yet, I'm playing ARR in my living room right now, sitting on my couch and at my coffee table with a wireless KB & Mouse on a 46" 120Hrz HDTV. My PC has 2 GTX 680 FTW running in SLi at around 120-140FPS.

So why should I play this on a vastly inferior console!?

And that's your choice. Console gaming, is what made gaming what it is today. However, supporting only PC or only Consoles, again your choice, is the stupidest thing you can do, because you deprive yourself of MANY great games that are exclusive to one or the other. Yeah. triple monitor, is nothing special, and is actually pointless unless you're managing servers. Nice waste of cash.

Well seen as triple monitor allows me to play center screen watch tv left screen and brows web right screen why would managing servers be the only use I set up 3840*1024 res just for fun and coz I can.

And I never said anything about hacking and or black hole simulations I mean WTF we talking about gaming.

I also own a ps3 and the ps3 version which I bought for 2 reasons one to get 30 days free time and the other to get it free when ps4 is released my ps3 is only used for blu rays tbh and is on a 42" full HD tv and yes my pc runs the game graphically better.

Yeah, I thought so. You want to dog on the hardware? then know the hardware. A PC can't even play a PS2 game. Also, choose one or the other, stop playing the game and sitting on youtube, it's crap like that helped to contribute to damn AFK kick.

Seen as you can get ps emulators for ps1, 2 and 3 for pc's I still can't see where your coming from saying pc's can't run ps2 games lol.

Completely agree with this as I was looking over the spec for the PS4 and the XBOX one I noticed that everything in there I had but better 2 years ago since then I have Built a new machine and upgraded once and the consoles they are releasing are so sub par in gaming PC terms.

Except consoles were never, originally, built to run like computers. PS3 and PS4 and XBone run like computers because the technology evolved and and Microsoft decided to make consoles more computer like, unlike before when they were simply machines to play video games.

I don't get why this is turning into a which machine is better for games, both play games (and play them well) and that should be enough for you guys. :/ If you want a prettier picture or a smoother run or whathaveyou, I'm sure there will be fixes and patches and new monitors and etc etc etc for that to happen.

Just be happy with what you got. I like my PS3 and I'm quite happy with it and I don't even get to play this game on an HD screen lol. If I can enjoy my squished screen, you guys can enjoy your suped up computers and 50" inch TV/monitors and whatever else you guys have been bragging that you have.

Now let's play the game, hm?

I'm a PS3 user and I agree; it's the inferior version by far.

The fact that you have to use Select to cycle through UI elements (instead of clicking with a mouse) is especially frustrating.

However, the 1.0 PC launch was atrocious so I didn't want to risk it a second time - and my PC is in another city :D

The amount of ignorance in this thread is incredible, I feel depressed just reading some of these posts.

Um... my PC is hooked up to my 65 inch TV. I run the game 1920 by 1080 at max settings. So, I disagree. I think I'll stick to my PC version.

Edit: I wanted to amend this to say, I have no problems playing with someone on the PS3 and truthfully, I don't think either has advantage over the other. It is all about personal playstyle. While I am a huge fan of the console FF games, I always play my MMOs on the PC. It is just how I have always done things.

If you prefer playing on a PS3, that is great for you!

But you are presenting your personal preferences like they are universal facts. Please don't do that. New people come in here all the time asking which version is better, and your post is greatly misleading. Examples in how your points are not helpful:
1. The low resolution on the PS3 on my TV screen actually gives me a headache, while everything on my PC screen is crystal clear and pleasant to me (and I have the majority of my UI elements set to smallest size). Clearly, the readability of text and other UI elements depends on the individual.
2. You can use a controller and the controller set up on the PC as well. Newcomers need to know that in order to make a properly informed decision.
3. People who already own a good gaming PC will miss out on 'visual beauty' (at the minimum because the PC allows more screen space to oogle that beauty), and, more importantly, on a number of graphic options with which they can customize the game's visuals and handling to their personal needs.

In short: the question which version is superiour is a question of individual needs. People can only make the right decision for them if they get proper information.

Unless you own a tin-pot with cables, PC has better graphics, and better performance, period. Arguing against it is just futile.

No puny controller will ever beat my Nostromo + G 600 setup.

I love my PS3, but this thread just made me ROFL hard.

That's exactly it...it's overtaken PC gaming. Games that I like to play are superior on PC...I'm sure some games are more suited to a console...and that's all great...but I still want to play my RPG's and my Mystery-type games (Tex Murphy) on the PC...It's just depressing to see nearly 0 games on the shelf for PC anymore.

I have my PS3 controller synced to my Gaming Laptop through Bluetooth.
I also have a USB keyboard for chat [though rarely used :)].

I plug my laptop into my 42" TV.

Looks fantastic. Plus I heard it's lower FPS and choppier graphics on the ps3 to compensate.

Yet for a lot of people, it's true.

If you only use your PC to act as a high-performance game console, then sure, you can put it by your TV in the living room and get a game controller for it, and it's now a specialty game console with PC-quality graphics.

But a lot of people still use thier PC as a PC. Those PCs do need to be at a desk in the corner, and depending on the layout of the house, may even need to be in a completely different room than the TV.

In that situation (which I'm guessing is the majority of people's situation) the issue of where you're more comfortable playing becomes a major consideration when choosing which version of a multi-platform game to get. It can certainly outweigh trivial details like which has marginally better graphics.

I disagree with OP you need a gaming PC a PS3 is not anywhere in the same ballpark as:

6 core I7 @3.2 grhz
Duel Gforce 680GTX SLI
Duel Corsair 120GB SSD RAID-0
1200 watt psu
12GB DDR3 1600
duel 32" 1080p HDTV's as displays

FPS: Console
MMORPG: PC

I played BF3 on my PS3 and COD: BO2 on my PC. In my opinion, FPS are more fun and challenging on a console. With that said, I have never and will never play an MMORPG on a console. It just makes more sense to use a PC... if it can handle the graphics.

If you're not very knowledgeable about PCs (or how to build them), don't have/make much money, tend to be lazy, or a combination of any of those, stick with consoles for every genre. I absolutely love my PS3, but there were many times that my PC has outperformed it.

quite wrong, you just converted over a built system after our VAT, knock off 20% off the £ price and then convert, its not $800, more like $600 at best

i tried to use a controller on my PC & it was hard for me
am pretty much satisfied w/ mouse & keyboard but i nid an epic multibutton mouse hehee

...okay, except $600 is still something I'm not willing to spend for a computer that I'll only play one game on. Myth or not, upgrading and/or buying a PC is still money that someone will need to dish out whether all at once or over time (to keep the computer upgraded) and I'll need to be playing more than just a couple games for that to be worth it (this is why I won't be buying a PS4 in the near future either).

I started "gaming life" on a PS3 back at Christmas 2008. I've also booked 700+ hours on Diablo 3 for PC. The OCD side of myself finds the PC experience superior as it lets me control nearly every conceivable option and I appreciate the visual fidelity I can achieve.

Some might argue that an unwillingness to suffer (a little) for one's hobby is a bit of a cop out. I'll concede to those that would make that point. I also cannot fool myself; my couch is quite comfy.

As much as I enjoy the Hobbit-like comfort and insularity of single player campaign gaming on PS3...there is a depth and richness I have found in this game and that is no bad thing.

This topic is hilarious. The main reason for PS3 is because of a bigger screen? The PS3 only displays at best 720p and the PC version on any monitor, like a 30", is ridiculously more detailed and clean looking. It's almost a joke in comparison. Now, when the PS4 comes out then that actually could be a decision maker. For now, the only reason to choose the particular version is the player's preference to controls or if you only own one system type.

I don't have anything against PS3 players of FF XIV ARR, but I just think playing from computer is much easier and better when you want to play hardcore. PS3 might be better for casual playing. But when it comes to my personal preference my voice goes for PC. I have PS3 and decided to buy this game for PC.

Oh and I like to be on skype/mumble when playing with friends this game. Not sure is it even possible from PS3.

I play both PC and PS3. Almost always PS3 because i can relax on the couch with a controller in my hand and a wireless keyboard at the table for communication. When grouping with friends i bring my laptop for Xfire. Obviously PC version looks better and is much faster with loading times (think SSD in my PC also helps), but my preference goes to PS3 for playing relax on the couch.

Yes i can use my gaming PC on my TV screen in my living room, but i don't want to move it everytime i want to play FFXIV.

ps3 version lacks many features.
you can barely see the game because of how big ui is.

Besides you can use ps3 controls for pc but for some odd reason not vise versa.

Sure not perfect but the delay in displaying players when there is a lot of people is actually a good thing when crafting near a summoning bell :) Never had trouble targeting it.

Consoles are just smaller, weaker, portable PCs with significantly less options and no room for upgrades without buying a brand new system. They're also easier to use though, and that's pretty big for a lot of people. Plug it in, play the game, simple as that. But that's pretty much where the advantages end between the two. Not to get into the whole "PC master race" thing yet again, but just about everything else a console can do, a PC can do better.

I have to disagree on this. The best games have always been PC. Most of the console games are war games/car games and decorating games. PC has the ability graphically to design games with more depth and better gameplay.

You are joking, right? You know that FF games have almost always been console specific. In fact, most JRPGs are console specific. Also, consoles have some games with incredible depth. You sir, don't know what you are talking about.
