Its been well known, since before launch, that China was getting its own version of the game with their own servers.


"Final Fantasy XIV Producer Hiromichi Tanaka took some time out of his busy day to tweet about the announcement from Square Enix today about FFXIV service being offered in mainland China.

This was tucked away at the bottom of our announcement today but due to the laws in China, operations for the Chinese version of FFXIV will be done via servers set in mainland China. The Chinese service will be completely different from the service provided for Japanese, North American, and Europeans. Service won’t start for awhile but know that they won’t be connected with everyone else.
As for the global servers for Japan/North America/Europe, we’ve already put an IP block in place for any connections coming from China. However, RMT still sneaks into the game. Either they are using proxies from outside China to access the game or they aren’t Chinese to begin with. Regardless of the reason, we will continue to thwart their efforts."

Yeah I was gonna say that this has been known since like launch lol, but you already said it! :)

And yeah, they have to have their own servers so good for China getting FFXIV, hope they enjoy it.

yup he did. not gonna translate word for word but basically he said that

the battle system and UI changes are the top priorities right now. reaction time in the user interface and the strengthening of display information (not sure what this means) have improved a lot from previous patches. next phase in game development would be to further improve UI in conjunction with the improvement of the battle system. i know very well that the lack of game content is of great concern, but unless the battle system is revamped first, we cannot proffer... "game-ability"... "gamingness" ... "essence of the game." (i can't think of a better way to translate this sorry). so, concurrent with our efforts to repair the battle system and UI, we are prioritizing the creation of endgame content. although i've only been executive producer for about four months, the game has undergone tremendous overhaul. there will be even bigger changes in the future, so please stay tuned for further updates to the ffxiv international edition.


also, the interviewer referred to chocobos as "golden land walking bird," or "land walking bird," not the originally leaked "horsebird."

So we wont be getting a class system on this patch then :(?

I can say.... a certain JP linkshell I am in has talked about chinese RMT lol. i doubt they would be too adamant to hear FFXIV will be released in china.

But if they do have their own servers, then not much cause for alarm lol.

Chinese version players wont be playing on JP/NA servers they already said that.

can't imagine how bad or what kind of chaos will happen in their server

I used to try one MMO on chinese server, they're really bad. everyone can kill-stealing, loot items on the ground which belong to the other players, botting, mob-training and do everything they want

their "Yin-Yang" (opposite) should be japanese server

in many Asian countries, the majority of the kids who play MMO do play them at internet coffee, there are literally 1-2 of those internet shops at every street corner everywhere.

The thing is that most of the shops have rather cheap and not up to date hardware and while games like WoW, Ro and a zillion of other asian free to play and PtP MMO games run on every machine, FFXIV does not.
Nor was there any prepaid card based payment method introduced for FF yet.
The games are not played by monthly subscription, plus all installed games must function with any account, ergo no unique IP, serials and so on.

Hmm this is very true. Not so sure if FFXIV would do so well in that sense.
