This is because they build the point allotment system to work in a way that it can't be abused by maxing one stat.
I'd rather they take all the math out of the question, remove point allotment and have set stats that mean something. Go back to the system that says "If you get 1 extra point of STR your going to do 5 extra points of damage in the long run."
I have to figure out how to compress it, it's a 3 GB .avi file that's only like 3 mins long ;_;
I've never made anything up, no idea what you're talking about at all @_@ Go fight a NM and do exactly what I did, and you wont see a difference in damage. I'll upload the vid later.
Thought to be honest, I bet NM's have a Damage Cap that your hitting with the Weathered bow so even if you use the crab bow your not going to get any extra benefit.
There's a reason archers use the starter arrows at 50. You can throw away millions of gil and not bat an eyelash, so it's not because of being cheap, it's because there's almost no difference between the arrows beyond the arrow graphic.
I think they just disable the full attribute calculating because the server can not handle everything
