Why do people not like summoner?

I wouldn't say can't do anything without the fairy the party will definitely notice if she falls in battle. The class quest for SMN was definitely dull. I mean you run into this guy, he's kind of a jerk. You kinda chase him around or something? I dunno I didn't pay much attention to the dialogue, it was pretty boring. SCH quest has professor tonberry. He's a tonberry with a PhD. You can't beat that.

As for summoner itself, its normally the I make everything go boom class. Basically the AoE black mage, higher MP costs, and worse single target damage. In XIV, you don't really get the stuff goes boom as summoner and that's disappoint to people.

Pretty much for the class quest I personally did not care for him I think he actually made the class story bad. They should of went into the lore of the primals more instead of dealing with the crazy summoner the only interesting part of the quest is a certain kind person appearing for 10 seconds at the 50 quest.

The black mage quest was really interesting and the details of that class quest may have some connections to the main story.

summoner really need some fixes of minor stuffs like better dot display under mob ..light green is so similar to white and u dont see well wich are urs and some logical stuffs like base arcanist spell (rouse) is far better than smn dedicated spell when should be opposite using some logic
the only reason (my opinion) is that smn is very very difficult to manage always at 100 of ur possibilities...i had to bind pet attack and follow to my mouse secondary buttons for manage it better and dont click each time attack when i switch target
smn isnt a spamming dps like black mage where u use always same skills,u have to watch at remaining time of ur debuffs wich are all different ,manage pet and his abilities manage atherflow for balancing mp gain and dmg or spread dots, they are all "separated" things u have to do all together and isnt simple,but need just some attention and some experience in the role

because the class is called summoner but isnt a summoner ....i wanted a PET class.

I dont mind dots (pet + dot is a stable in mmorpgs)

i want to feel like im a summoner , i dont feel that when i play my smn , yeah i have a pet ...but is on auto , i dont command anything (enkindle 5 min cd WOHO! )

give me spells that command the pet or have synergy with the pet ....

Hope SE adds a real pet class (pup, bst...)

The majority of all the toughest boss mechanics require speedy dps checks and quick AoE DPS for ads, SMNs provide neither.

Because there is nothing 'Summoner' about the JOB, its a poorly made fanservice.

Ionno, but in all my fate parties, there have been at least 3 or 4 summoners, typically like 4-6 arcanist jobs total.

So there must be something to be said about their current popularity =)

Certainly don't pick them if you're looking for a "unplayed" class. They're about as FOTM as bard atm.

The other thing is, they're awful in non-duty environments. FATE bosses seem to have a maximum # of debuffs (two rows, shadow word pain, =D), literally 2 rows and dots start being overwritten. Don't believe me? Try triple dotting and festering on Svara, you'll do only 1-2 dots worth of damage as your things get overwritten by other players.

Plus you can't hide other players' debuffs, making it a pain if there is ever more than 1 summoner in a group to keep track of dots.

So they're not -hard- to play per say, just annoying and sometimes frustrating to play.

Also pets are just liabilities 90% of the time =(

If SMN can summon the actual Primals, your other party members would be worthless. Why have a tank that is a mere mortal when you can have a god fight at your side.
