I play with my bf, and he tells me that if I can't steal hate, I'm doing a poor job as a DD. Also if nobody is moving just go, and if I die I die. He likes excitement, and puts everyone on the edge.

don't regen ur tank on trash. its annoying chasing mobs cause that one tick pulled everything off u on the pull.
I am sorry to hear you have had bad experiences with tank, but the bottom line is, the tank IS the boss of the dungeon. In fact, in many MMO's, the tank is given the team lead. The tank LEADS the party and you as a DPS will FOLLOW HIS INSTRUCTIONS. This is MMO 101.
This isn't a thread about what we want from tanks, read the title or gtfo.Quote:
If the healer says "stop," STOP. Your survival depends on the healer's state to protect you. You rush in when they are trying to cast Protect/Proshell or put Stoneskin on you, you're gonna suffer. That causes more healing, and thus...
It sounds like your BF doesn't know anything about this game (or MMOs in general).
If a DPS is pulling hate off the tank, the DPS is doing horrible at his/her job. You are not a tank, why would you divert damage from the tank to yourself? You should honestly break up with your boyfriend and date someone with a brain.
Actually, the DD MUST watch for the aggro bar. If it's filling too fast he is either attacking another mob other than the tank's or he have to slow down a bit. Aoe taunt takes too much mp and the tank have to rotate some mp regen if he plans on keep spaming. A good tank play it safe, keeping everything under control and making the healer's and the dps's lives easier. See, it's not babysitting, it's doing his job. A tank only creates trouble and unnecessary stress for his group by putting them "on the edge".
The only thing I as a tank have ever outright requested from a party was to stay the eff back for the love of god, because if I'm trying to be sneaky and do systematic pulls to control the mobs and they run in right behind me, it kind of ruins the whole "shield lobs while running like hell backwards so other mobs don't pick up the threat" idea.
this request you can do your self.
i ran as healer and marked the mobs for the tank.
i even asked if he wanted to do the job since i tough i took it away from him and he said glady: no, just do it.
should be the one with experience who marks. dont need to be the tank.
i ran a EASY dungeon and i was stuck with people who had NEVER done it and i had to mark the targets for them to make it easyer for me and for us to be able to make the dungeon( in the end we failed).
i was running as healer.
dont need to force the job on someone when anyone can do it.
Tanks... the boss?? PFTTT... lol HAHAHAHAHA
You know all of you are but mere minions for us the healers to do our deeds for us. We are the TRUE leaders of parties, not the other way around silly pets.
But seriously, all roles plays a very crucial role in a dungeon. Sometimes a specific role gets more importance depending on what type of strategy is required. Anyways a leader can be anybody, as long as others follow the instructions.
Each job has a role, if you get rid of the tank, everyone dies, if you get rid of hte dps, you fight the same mob for 3 days, if you get rid of hte healer everyone dies. So everyone has to do the job that they are responsible for.
DPS should be able to pull the hate off the tank. However a good dps will do as much dps as possible, just short of pulling the hate off the tank.
If I'm not advancing, I'm waiting for tp to regen so I can do hate moves. They're very tp intensive, and without tp, I can't do them and keep the hate on me. So if you see me waiting for a few seconds, don't take that as a sign for you to go and pull the monsters yourself.
