The game is already so crafting heavy, that I was glad that there was finally some equipment that didn't require crafting. Getting mats from hard fights is so much less satisfying than getting actual equipment. I agree with allowing equipment to be dyed at any time, to curb the lack of uniqueness
As far as crafting high rank equipment, I feel it's best to make most of it drop from difficult boss fights, without needing crafting. It would be nice if there were some great event crafting equipment, where you would need to obtain 3 mats from 3 different boss fights, or something like that.
Obviously, the trick is to make it so that crafting doesn't become useless, or lack return in investment. I think crafting should slowly be shifted towards dabbling in the materia and repairing business, and towards crafting generic, mid-level and unique event equipment
