As a Monk, I have found no reason to ever drop the job. People say for soloing.. But for that, I have my chocobo, who can heal..
I've never taken off my job crystal and solo farm stuff quite regularly.

I find where they work best is solo quests, especially instanced fights where you can't use your chocobo and your level is restricted. Being able to set protect, stoneskin, and cure to a DPS makes a huge difference.

We've been asking this question for years.
Armory system gimmick is pointless, one you go job you never turn back. All it does is make it easier for SE to add new jobs (just 5 abilities) than to create a whole new job from scratch.

Classes are a system that hamstrings the abillity to have a unique job system...
But you know teh solos right guys? Why not just make a Job that's good at Soloing like Thief or Beastmaster for those who want a job with solo utillity. Classes end up being poor jack of all trades in the end while pulling down the jobs they are anchored too with them.

I play as a PGL instead of MNK pretty much all the time so I can use protect and cure.
