I haven't had any problems and I've played for 100 hours or so including beta tests. It's most likely that your PS3 just hit the end of its life. I had a launch PS3 that had blu ray drive go out 2 years ago. So I replaced it and my slim is running perfectly fine for the time being.

My brother plays on the old fat one for hours and hours.
Lately the fan was running at higher speeds and just used a vacuum cleaner to remove some dust (more like wool :p) from the holes and it got quieter.

I have frozen one time on my slim ps3, and that was surfing a fate. I have since editted my options in game to not show skill and spell animations for anyone other than myself and party members. Haven't had a freeze since. However I will post here again if I have another freeze issue.

Clean out the dust, move it away from walls, and don't throw a blanket over the top of it. This game puts no more stress on the system than any other game.
Did you get the ylod?

My PS3 slim works fine for me. I have no issues at all.

Mine is a PS3 Slim 320GB and it is working fine, I keep checking it for overheat but so far no signs of it, even with all the FATE's lagging the game sometimes (it crashed my connection, but PS3 still had no signs of overheating). Remember to keep the fans clean and in a not-so-hot environment.

I play 10 hours a day and no issues on ps3.so its not the game .

This Game requires A LOT of free hard drive space to function without problems, anyone I've seen with problems on ps3, including ny wife, didn't have enough free space on the hard drive. Delete some stuff and it worked fine for her for 16 hours straight no freezing. The game freezes when it tries to save but doesn't have the space to do so, this leads to overheating or death. Bottom line, get a bigger hdd or clear some room

I'm still using my PS3 from not long after release and had no issues with freezing at all even when I was playing over 12 hours straight at the weekend. The fan is running constantly but it does that with pretty much every game. Only got a 40GB hard drive so I pretty much emptied it before starting with FFXIV:ARR.
Ideally they need to put in options to turn off more background detail/shadows/water effects etc. as even with battle effects turned down to zero busy areas take an age to load up characters/mobs. FATE's are a bit of a nightmare to contend with.

lol you make me laugh with your "casual consumer" ideologies that claim "the game broke my console". Grow up and use some common sense. I'm willing to bet you've never cleaned your console since the day you bought it and its probably under or behind your tv in some dusty crevice you call a shelf, crowded by a pile of other games and or accessories allowing it zero room for actually breathing. This game didn't kill your console, your bad luck did. Btw, I run my ps3 12-24 hours a day and I chase fates, and the only problem this game has on ps3 is the invisible monsters during fates, not overheating.
