I agree with the OP, very good suggestion. I would only add that moving the targeting circle to the edge of the screen should turn the camera in that direction.
Ground AoE targeting is bad with a controller. It tends to target the wall all the way across the room. What it should do when you hit it with a controller is target the ground right in front of you and then move it from there.
It should target the mob you are targeting and that's it. if u need to move it you can move it from there.
I don't like ops suggestion because then you are unable to position the aim while moving. This can be really useful in fights as blm because you can position the aim before you reach your casting destination. It is also very much useful for bards that can do most moves on the fly without stopping.
Honestly, after playing with it for awhile, I've gotten great control over how ground controls function. Using the cannons in CM for instance, it's good practice. I do like Estellos suggestion though about putting the circle on your main target at the time as a default placeement, that would be nice.
Yeah, that's what I meant. Make it the default placement but still allow you to move it around with the camer. Not only does it make it quicker to aim the damn thing where you need it to be (most of the time you want it to be near your current target), it makes it easier to figure out what the hell you have to do for people using ground-target AoEs for the first time. If the circle isn't even displayed because you aren't aiming the camera down (aka 99% of the time) it makes it seem like the spell/skill/Limit break isn't even activating.
Also it would allow us to not have to point the camera straight down and kill our visibility.
20 seconds? Thats really obscene. I dont know what your doing wrong, but I have abosolutely no issues with it at all and I play with a gamepad as well.
The only thing i can think of is you play with your camera zoomed in way to far making it hard to angle it on things farther away. As you progress in the game, you will need to zoom out to see more of the battlefield for lots of reasons.
I really like the camera aim just the way it is. Most of the suggestions in this thread would change the position of the camera automatically and i dont want that at all. Im fine with an 'option' either with a toggle function or a different command to target under the current mob, but dont mess with the camera aiming. I frequently DONT want it centered on the mob im fighting.
hmm.. i use controller, never had an issue.
