I eat up all the quests possible in an area, once that's completed I go off and do as much of the hunting log as possible, and finish up with fates.
I absolutely hate doing leves for some reason, just can't stand them. I could run quests all day every day, but I think its the repetition of the leve and the quality of them that makes me dislike doing them so much.

i picked 1 class for each main city CNJ, ARC, THM. and leveled each one up to about 10/15 with the main city/outlining area/hunting log quests. then my main ARC, up to 20 with the guildheists/dungeons/main story. its slowing down some but i plan on fates/dungeon grinds/hunting logs/misc, area quests and last leves, because i to do not like them, to get them all up to 30. so i can check out SCH and SMN. then after all the ill check out the gathering and crafting stuff.

I just queue for dungeons non-stop and do main quest. In off time, I level professions, watch a movie, or chat with link/company mates. Fates if I'm around and the fate is close.
I avoid side quests like the plague for some reason.

First class (LNC/DRG) i used mostly quests and the occasional fate until 42, then i fate grind the rest of the way. Second class (CNJ/WHM) hunting log the first 10 levels then fate grind to 50.
Every class after that, hunting log till 10 then fate grind.

I was able to level all the way to 50 on my THM/BLM doing quests supplemented with a few dungeon runs and FATEs whenever they were convenient. I never went out of my way to run FATEs except for grinding out my last level from 49-50. Second time through, I will probably use FATEs primarily.

my main class reached 50 without having to spam levequest
it's the most unefficient way to level up, compared to side quests, hunting log and the almighty Fates
except the first levequest in each region which has another quest reward for completing it for the first time, i do that
i prefer looking for side quests from all around Eorzea than doing levequest
as i do sidequests, Fate pops up right here and there so i also do that
