Let us make our own houses!

Would be cool for LS's being able to build their own villas ala assassins creed 2, theres so much space in Eoreza this is def possible. How cool would it be, setting up ls shops, pvp like Ls's challenging Ls's like old school kung fu movies ok im ranting now :p

If possible, I think this would be really neat.

I posted a thread in the Companies forum for an idea of what LS/Company housing could be like, using EQ2 as an example. Mostly to show what housing could be, at least as far as interior customization.


Here is a link to a Guild Hall from EQ2. This is the largest size hall (it's almost a city in itself). All of it is decorated by hand with either crafted, quested, or purchased items. The house itself is in an instanced zone.

This could work, but only in instanced areas, there's no way houses or LS halls or w/e will actually be added to Thanalan, La Noscea, etc cuz then players could theoretically fill up the game world

I really hate the idea of an instanced zone though. There is so much space in Eorzea to accommodate players withou segregating them from each other.

I think it'd be great to add this kind of feature, however my only concern with it is the people who go out of their way to make silly, obscene buildings. I've seen some pictures of stuff in Minecraft or things like Farmville that give people the chance to make the homes they want and they just go crazy with it. If SE monitored things like that, then the idea is great.

However this also adds the problem that what happens when you have so many character houses that eventually there's no room for monsters to roam around?

Again, I love the idea, I'm just worried about implementation.

I don't think it's possible to give players anything more than prefabricated buildings in a game like FFXIV anyways. Therefore, people wouldn't even have the ability to make their houses into phallic symbols anyway.

And obviously some restrictions would need to be made to address urban sprawl into areas where it would be undesirable.

No need to segregate anyone. People can freely visit others houses, so long as the house isn't set to private.

Also, how would you propose having non-instanced housing in The Black Shroud? It may work for La Noscea and Thanalan, but definitely not TBS.

Tree houses?

I like this idea a lot. I would be doubtful that housing in XIV would be this free form but who knows? Anything that's player driven is a great idea, an instanced village is probably what we would get in this game unfortunately. While I like the idea of being able make to put houses in the existing wild I am not with the idea of contested land or villages you need to defend from other players. That's in the realm of a PvP game which this is not.

IF it were possible to build houses in the world at large or even camps I would be all over that. What is a camp? It can be as simple as a bonfire in the wild, or as large as a bunch of tents put together, perhaps you can even bring your retainer along (put up a bell post). Camps in games usually bring about bonuses, maybe they regen anima or something as helpful.

Phantasy Star Universe had a great housing method. Everyone had mini appartments and you could put some stuff into it. You could buy decorations and chairs and stuff, and people could place stuff of their own in yours if there was space to. I rather enjoyed getting the toilets and spamming them in people's rooms :D. I just wasnt a homely place to chill at and talk to people. Not sit around Ul'dah because I'm sick of that city.
